Excellent for the price you pay for, November 26, 2007

I got this modem for just 10$ in the thanks giving sale, and I am too happy with its performance. It beat my D-Link router in performance. The speed is awesome and working great with no hang ups as my old D-Link router does. Finally, I want to suggest this router if you are looking for a cheap and best performing router. I have no complaints so far...

Do not buy if you have more than one computer, April 29, 2006

Do not buy this if you have more than one computer. Heck, don't buy it at all, you're going to eventually want to buy a newer router anyways. I've gone through two of them. The router restarts randomly, the more computers that are connected through it, the more often it restarts. With one computer downloading SP4 for windows 2000, and doing some light surfing on another, no P2P or anything else that would really stress it, causes it to restart about every 5-15 minutes. The first one I had died completely seemingly because of this, at first it would restart itself maybe once ever half hour to hour. It started resetting itself every 1-4 minutes, then shortly died. I assumed I just had a bad router and got another one. The one I'm using is already showing signs of dying as it's restarting every 5-15 minutes. And it's only a day old. Tech support was no help. Guy said to upgrade to current firmware several times, even though I upgraded the firmware right after taking it out of the box, and hold down the manual reset button for 30 seconds, asked about 5 times what kind of internet connection I had, had to explain several things. 45 minutes talking to tech support and it's still doing it. So now I'm supposed to wait for a 'level 2' tech support person to call me. After googling, it seems many people are having these kinds of issues.
In case I haven't convinced you yet not to buy it, I'll also mention a few other issues.
Port forwarding is a hit and miss, it either works, or for some unknown reason it doesn't (google it).
Another issue is that the router will drop TCP connections that aren't active for 5-10 minutes. Example: If you have an IM client and nothing happens for 5-10 minutes, the server will stop routing packets for that connection, leaving the IM client thinking it's still connected for a few minutes.
Unless it somehow starts to work flawlessly in the next day, it's being taken back.

I've now been using this router for a few month, so I had time to 'evaluate' it... I found this routher to be EXTREMLY unstable; it looses wireless connections for no reason (direct ethernet connection to it works fine). There are sometimes random periods of time where all connections on it turn on and off for hours at a time making it quite impossible to use. Also it tends to lose connections alot when transfering large files between computers and/or are trying to upload or download large files to and from the web. Its a decent router if you're using it for 5 minutes at a time, but anything longer then that... well, simply put it sucks for anything longer... I would suggest getting a Lynksis or a Netgear router; costs a lil more but atleast you can rely on those.

Very Nice Low-budget router, February 28, 2006

This router was a nice surprise, in combination with the PCI wireless card. I was having trouble getting a signal to the front of the house, and was skeptical since it only cost me $24 on sale. But I have a nice strong signal with the top speed.
The only issue I had was in configuration. It came out of the box with the access limitations set to disabled 24/7...very odd. So I spent an hour trying to figure out why even my wired connection wouldn't work. Once that was solved, it was great.

Picked this item up for $23. Actulllay picked 6 of them up. All had the newest firmware and all are rock solid regular G router. Airlink and Airlink101 are OEM producers and you'll find their components in many of the more expensive brands out there. I was surpised at both the features and performance.
This is a good buy and expect to upgrade the firmware upon purchase. As with any router, ALWAYS CHECK DSLREPORTS Hardware Forums @ < http://www.dslreports.com/forums/all > before purchasing or upgrading connecting hardware.

I'd reccomend immediately upgrading to the latest firmware when you get this router. Before I did i was getting dropped wireless connections every 30 seconds or so and it would take 5-10 minutes to finally "dhcp" itself an IP address so we could get on the internet through it. After upgrading formware, the problems went away immediatley. I got my fastest download over our cable modem so far: 830kBps (>6.6mbps). My old wireless router had a max connect speed for 5.4mbps...
The web interface is not the best i've seen, but it gets the job done. I think they should have hired a web designer to come up with a slicker and more user friendly one, but this is no biggie.
It's a decent device once it gets working, but i have read other people having the same problems i initially experienced with other AirLink products. It's worth the really slim price you can usually find them at if you don't mind a little bit of messing around with it. I personally got it for 22.99 on sale from 49.99...
