Just what home dialup users have been waiting for!, January 10, 2005
By user
Setup was very easy. Connected to my ISP every time. In spite of what the WiFlyer tech support says, the LAN connection on the back of the WiFlyer CAN be used to link the WiFlyer to other networks, not just a single computer. In my case, I am using an 802.11g network with a physical LAN connection to the WiFlyer. Result, WiFlyer fits transparently into the network and I still get to use the 802.11g transfer speeds.
On the pricy side, but I've been waiting for something like this for ages!

Fabulous product, January 6, 2005
By user (Kansas)
I've had my WiFlyer for a few months now and am very happy, overall, with the product. I cover an 18 county area, in a mainly rural state, and travel all over the state for meetings and trainings. The mix of dialup and broadband connections can be a pain. The WiFlyer has given me the flexibility to use any type of connection that I come across (Well, almost any, you can't use it on a digital phone system. Not sure why, but that was very disappointing when I spent a week in a room with a digital phone in at and was stuck using a regular phone line, plugged into the wall, to access my dial up account.). The WiFlyer interface is browser based, just plug it in and turn on your computer. Once the computer locates the WiFlyer signal you open your web browser and set up your connection. Its very easy to use and has worked great with both my work and personal laptops (Dells running XP Pro) and my Dell Axim PocketPC. Sometimes the signal seems to be a little weak, I'd like to see it come with an external antannae (you can buy one, but you know, should you really have to?). And I always feel like I have to baby it, not sure why but it just feels fragile to me. That being said, I've had it in my computer bag and hauled it all over the place and haven't had any problems with it. I've never been able to get the dial up accelerator program to work either. I might use it if I could, but have had no success so far. It's a great product. If you're on the road and need a great solution for dealing with a variety of Internet connections, or if you want to make your dial up connection wireless, this is for you. Easy to use, simple to hook up and gives you wireless access anywhere you go. Well worth the price.

Stay close to the reset button because it Hangs & Hangs & Ha, December 16, 2004
By user (Orange County)
This is a follow up to my review called frustrating. So firmware version 2.0 is out and as I stated in the prior review the configuration menu hangs all the time the only solution is unplug the power cable and start over again and again I have done this, So when version 2.0 became available I excited to install it hoping the unit would function a little more civilized. Well after 4 hours of trying to get the WiFlyer to update I had to put Windows XP in Safe, this did the trick the WiFlyer accepted both updates. I'm sorry to say however this didn't really correct much, I will say that it hangs less in the configuration mode. But....... Now I have to dial twice to get it to connect and no WPA is still not there, the menu and button bar are but they are grayed out I'm still unplugging the power cord several times before getting a connection. I do like the Idea I travel a lot and I never know if I'm going to use dial up or have either net at the hotels so I love the idea and if Linksys made one I'd Ebay the WiFlyer quickly but it's the only game in town of its kind. I will say this, once its connected it does stay connected and love sitting out on deck or patio with my laptop surfing the web wirelessly. I just don't understand the hang issues the chips aren't new technology so one would think Always on could code it to behave correctly. Anyway if you don't mind plugging the power cord in and out it will work, just don't hook it up in an inaccessible place.

Hi, Just wanted to tell you how nice your WiFlyer is working. Using Apple G4 12" 867 laptop with OS 10.3.6. Installation took about five minutes and it's been working great.
Thanks for a good product. Tom Boland

Finally - something for the road warrior and country dweller, December 1, 2004
By user
Finally! Somebody has made a tech toy that we road warrior and country dwellers have needed for some time. I live miles from any high speed service (short of satellite) and also travel quite a bit for business. So many hotels design the room with the phone by the bed but the desk is on the other side of the room. Now, with WiFlyer, I can enjoy wireless internet via my dialup ISP while at home, and high speed or dialup access while on the road. The best part of the whole deal was that it worked right out of the box! Now, if WiFlyer could get me high speed access out here in rural Missouri...

The WiFlyer hangs constantly, November 22, 2004
By user
I don't know where to begin, this has been nightmare since the first time I ordered it. From the very start the WiFlyer has been a looser. It must be a brand new company because they cant seem to do or get anything right! After there web page failed to take my order I called them direct to place it. They were two off the promised delivery date and no how many times I give them corrected address they keep sending it to undeliverable address. Kevin Hall the contact at tech support needs some help, after sending the first unit back because the hardware would hang and the WiFlyer would not work Kevin called me on a Monday to tell me he would be shipping a new Unit. He confirmed the WiFlyer was defective. That following Friday I received another call from Kevin asking me what I wanted to do about my WiFlyer, he had just tested it and it was working fine ? Okay granted he very busy and a little confused. After reminding him of the Monday conversation he apologized for the mix up and said he would be sending a new unit. And once again the company sent to an undeliverable address. This wouldn't be so bad but I included my business card along with a note with my correct address. When I spoke with Kevin on Friday I confirmed my full and correct address. Guess what, I got a call from Fed Ex because of an incomplete address. This product and company has been one of the biggest frustration ions I experienced in a long time. Just beware this a new untested product with less than professional tech staff.
