    Painless installation, June 1, 2007
By Pedro A. Vera (Reston, VA United States)
I purchased this card for a first generation 20" iMac G5. Installation is simple: release three captive screws at the bottom of the iMac, remove the back cover and pedestal, and insert the card into the retainer cage. The card plugs into a socket, plus it has an antenna cable. That's all there is to it.

Once rebooted, the machine will automatically detect the card but it will not turn on wireless networking. If you are ready to connect to a network then it takes maybe a minute or two to turn it on and pick the wireless access point.

The iMac is now at the opposite side of the house (brick, steel, concrete condo) and wireless performance with the D-Link WBR-1310 is great.

Most new Macs already have an airport card, so this product is primarily aimed at people that own slightly older Macs with a built-in airport socket/cage. The price is really good, these cards retailed for $79 when they originally came out. And once you plug it in, it works forever, I am yet to run into somebody that has had an airport extreme card fail, not even DOA.

Apple Airport Extreme Card, March 26, 2007
By William C. Haley (Raleigh NC)
I just installed the Airport Extreme Card on my eMac and have moved the computer as far away from the router as it can possibly be in my house. The signal is very strong and it is working great. Highly recommend this product.

A Piece of cake to install, this thing works great, January 11, 2007

Apple products have been consistently solid for me, and this one is no exception. I simply opened the side of my mac, plugged the card in, and when I turned the computer back on I was browsing the web wirelessly. Could not have been easier.

Plugged right in and worked like a charm. No software to configure. Great buy. Great product.

Do not work with non-Apple access points!, May 10, 2006
By camel (China US)
Does not work with non-Apple base stations! I had a PowerMac G5. I was told by Apple retail store clerks it will work any wireless G access points. But No! At my house my PC can see no less than 6 wireless AP's (some from neighbors, one mine). But this Airport card can only see one (which is an Apple Airport Station)! Tried everything ( Googled, set encryption modes, slow downed my LinkSys WAP tranfering bitrate to 2Mbps etc...) and no luck. Returning it tomorrow.

easy to install, works instantly, September 30, 2005
By Shelley Shay (Denton, TX **(God Bless the USA!!)**)
The beauty of Apple is the simplicity of their products - the Mac, the iPod, everything just works without having to consult Carl Sagan, Neil Armstrong or Miss Cleo.

A note to those wanting to go wireless with an older computer: The Airport Card and the Airport Extreme Card are two different critters. They look different and this card will not work on older Macs fitted for the standard Airport card. Apple doesn't even sell the old Airport cards anymore. If you have an older Mac and want to get more speed, you cannot hotwire it to do more with the newer card - you'll just blow a gasket on your Mac.

If you're adding a new computer to your existing Airport-based network and are underwhelmed by the performance, you may be using an original Airport Base Station - these older models maxxed out at 11bps, where the new ones max out at 54bps - a nearly 500% increase in network access speed.

This is NOT the model to get for a Mac Mini. The Mac Mini has a different form factor and has a slot for a special Airport & Bluetooth combo card that this card will not work with.

Installation is a snap - literally. Pop it into place and attach the antenna cord and you've got WiFi. I installed one of these on my older 1Ghz iBook G4 and instantly saw all the wireless networks in my neighborhood. Viva la Macintosh!

Apple delivers once again!, August 15, 2005
By Candace Wilson (knoxville, TN)
Apple, once again, delivers yet another fantastic product. After doing my research to find a 3rd party wirless unit, I found I had no choice but to buy the Airport Extreme card for my imac G5. I'm using a Linksys Router and It works perfectly. I made the mistake of installing the card first then plugging in the antenna. If you install this be sure to plug in the antenna first making sure the plug is all the way in from tip to collar (which takes a little force) and then insert the card securly in it's seat. If you don't get a very strong signal look at the card and antenna again as it more than likely isn't in all the way. It's very easy to install so If you are comfortable opening up your computer do it yourself. Once you have it installed that's all, go to your airport icon and make sure it's on... and that's it! You're up and running! Easy as Plug in and go!

Do not buy from Mac-pro.com, January 28, 2005
By Paul (Williamstown, MA)
Great item, but do not buy from mac-pro.com. Received a defective card and they were unwilling to replace it. I am left with all shipping charges and a 20% RESTOCKING fee. Will you end up buying my defective card? I got another card from another vendor and it works really well.

Easy to install and set up, January 7, 2005
By C. Fargo
I bought this for a IMac G5. It took less than 5 minutes to install (open computer case, plug antenna cable into card, slide card in slot, close case, power up). All that was left was to insert setup CD and about 1 minute later my existing wireless network was recognized and available. Reception of the wireless signal appears to be slightly stronger than what I get with my Dell laptop and its card however I have no accurate way to measure.

It does exactly what I bought it for which was hassle free access to my network.

WDS! (Signal Repeating = Extended Range), December 20, 2004
By Defend America, Defeat Bush (Pa)
Despite apple's official word on this, the Airport Express's WDS capability can be used not only with Apple Basestation's but also the Linksys WRT54G (Which is the best, in my opinion. **Google for information on how to configure**) I finally have the A.E. setup as a repeater on my home network, which allows me to connect its ethernet port into a computer (or xbox) and it becomes attached to my WRT54G's wireless network. No more running wires downstairs to play xbox live! Airtunes is also flawless, as well as my Canon i860 that's attached. Both PC and MAC work flawlessly with this device!

    Great product, November 18, 2004

All you need to do is bring your computer within range of a wireless hub and it automatically connects. Gadgetmaster has no clue what he is talking about, he is just using this as an excuse to bash Apple.

    worth the extra $$, November 13, 2004
By B. Cooke (New England USA)
I tried to get away with a cheap USB 802.11a adapter but it didn't cut it. The device would work most of the time, but also caused a lot of undesirable side effects (kernel panics, random disconnects, etc). So I decided to do what was right and invest in the airport extreme card. It installed and configered without any trouble. My now, airport extreme equipped G5, happily connected to my 802.11a Linksys router and things just work. I was glad to shell out the extra cash for something that just works.

The only game in town..., October 24, 2004
By DC Machead (Washington, DC USA)
This card is the only game in town if you own a late model Mac. I've been delighted with the AirPort cards I have in my Apple laptops and Apple is good about updating drivers for this product.

Perfect match for any Mac!, October 19, 2004
By http://web.mac.com/deank812/iWeb (NJ)
Once again this is teh perfect match for any Mac looking for an etxreme "G" signal. It works with all Mac portables and desktops and in my experince has exceptional range. Thanks to Apple's software the hardware is able to be set to "Use Interferance Robustness." This allows you to send its signal through any wall or through floors. While some PC card adaptors will work with Apple's base and in PowerBooks you can get other wireless cards but this one works the best.

    A necessity for any PowerBook/iBook user, July 21, 2004
By W. F. Abbey (USA)
As a longtime PowerBook user I have to say that my AirPort Extreme Card was the best product I have ever bought for my laptop. With speeds up to 54 Megabits per second it is very fast at sending files over my local network. It is also backwards compatible with the 802.11b specification which is used in most "hot-spots." Since I attend a major university, I am able to connect to a high-speed network from almost anywhere on campus. The signal range with the AirPort card is at least as good as any of my friends PC's and better than several. It also is a snap to install. Simply open a door on the bottom and slide it in. It takes about 30 seconds. Mac OS X also recognizes it automatically and there almost no configuration required. I have to say how happy I am I bought this product and I am completely satisfied and haven't had any problems whatsoever.

Apple quality comes through again!, June 3, 2004
By unknown
My experience with the AirPort Extreme card has simply reaffirmed my faith in Apple. I literally popped the card into my PowerBook (this took all of a minute or two) and when I restarted my computer it was asking to connect to my wireless network. It couldn't get any easier. Reception is great and I've not experienced any of the problems some other Aluminum PowerBook owners have with reception. At the same time I installed this, I also installed a Microsoft wireless card on my girlfriend's Toshiba laptop. It took a good 3-4 hours to get that connected to the network due to driver issues, etc.. If you've got an AirPort Extreme-capable Mac, don't even consider using a PC Card for wireless. This card is the way to go!

Apple is Simply Better!, April 29, 2004
By fotoron (Watertown, CT United States)
The whole Apple Sytem is so easy to use, the Extreme Airport card is so Easy to install and there is No headache like I used to have with my PC's (I switched 3 years ago). Very hard to crash an Apple system. Apple was first with the Airport system. No need for the big "C" wireless.
Works perfect in "hot spot" areas! Can't ask for a better system. Give Apple a try and you will see what I mean.

Thank you for the great service, April 13, 2004

Thanks to J&R Music and Computer for good response and followup on a rush order. I would shop here again and plan to soon. This is an unsolicited review.
