    It Works, Installation's a Breeze, January 27, 2008
By Millie C. Woods (Near the home of Stealth Fighters)
I am elderly, know little about puters and nothing about wireless routers, live in mountains and had to rely solely on tech support. I researched the product, found this one to be best, and Apple walked me through a simple installation. Now I go anywhere in the house with my laptop and visit my grandchildren and have the capacity for more STUFF that I will ever need.

    Works Like A Charm, December 11, 2007
By JK3MD (DFW, TX USA)
It was a little difficult to get it working with the AT&T 2-Wire modem. I had to call in to both Apple and AT&T before I got it working. I still am not sure how it started working but it does and it works as expected. I have a hard drive connected to the network and I am very pleased with the higher level of security.

AirPort Extreme Base Station withOUT AirTunes, October 28, 2007
By TZ (UAE)
I have to admit it's my mistake, reading so many reviews turning pages between Airport extreme and Airport express I opted for the newsiest and the most expensive model (Airport Extreme Base station). Did not realize though that apple chose not to add a small tiny hole called "Air Tunes" which was the main reason for me to replace my still very good Netgear. Now I have to spend another $100 to buy Airport express with Air Tunes to get my very expensive! Wi-Fi network in-order.
For the ease of installations, speed and quality I am giving it 4 stars.

Not the current version of AirPort Extreme, September 18, 2007
By xtrmtrk (Bellevue, WA USA)
Please take note - this is not the current version of the AirPort extreme, it DOES NOT support Gigabit Ethernet. The current version is here Apple MB053LL/A AirPort Extreme Base Station (New).

Very Good Router, September 17, 2007
By Enzo De Libero (Caracas, Venezuela.)
It is a very good Wirelees Router. I'm a PC user and I had a D-link router, but when I saw that this AirPort have the new n band and the facility to install a printer or an external disk, I decided to chenge and was fine. Work's fine also in Windows Vista.

    Fantastic Router, September 10, 2007
By D. Henry (OH USA)
High quality interface with many top shelf features, this is not a watered down router. 11n speed is very nice, and the range is great. An added bonus is the ability to share disks and printers on your LAN.

    Excelente Producto, September 7, 2007
By Roderick Meyer (USA)

Signal range is mediocre., September 3, 2007
By S. Edmiston
The signal strength of this product is mediocre and I have experienced many dropped signals. I have an Intel Core Duo iMac and it is not able to take advantage of the n wireless configuration. Apple requires an Intel 2 Core Duo iMac in order for this to happen. Additionally, this is the Extreme that does not have the 1 gigabit ports, so even with the wired configuration, this router is lacking. I'm going to return this and find something much less expensive.

Very easy to use., August 31, 2007
By C. Gladd (Greensboro, NC)
Apple's new base station is much much easier to use than its predecessors. Also, setting up a wireless network with other apple products (such as the airport extreme) connecting to the base station is also a breeze. I had no trouble setting up my network and it took only a matter of minutes. The one downfall is the range. It still has been difficult finding a wireless base station that can transmit as far as I need. Hence, the 4 stars instead of 5. Overall, a great buy, especially for homes in the 2000 sq. ft. and under range.

    Whoa, August 31, 2007
By D. R. Turgeon (Minneapolis)
I'm getting my Amaz"on", late Friday night (pathetic...) and see that there must have been a bad batch because a fistful of dudes here are upset. Not to rub it in, but my experience with this base station has been very, very good. I love it. I especially like the configuration software (which I also use to tweak a couple AP Expresses). The NYTs tech podcast demonstrated far better reception and thru put using this over other 802.11n stations. Oh, well I am a lucky one.

    Fast - Strong Signal, August 28, 2007
By Carmen A. Pagano
We are very pleased with this wireless device. It is powerful and reliable and has doubled or tripled the internet connection speed of the non-wireless desktops connected to it.

    Returned it, August 28, 2007
By A. F. GILLITT (Alameda, CA)
I bought it cause it could serve files, but that feature never worked properly for me... anytime transfers of any size happened, it would lock up and drop the connection. It was picky about which drives would work with it. Actually, it dropped the connection fairly often. I know someone else who has the same problems with the base station dropping the connection.

I went back to using my graphite UFO base station to serve G, and started using my iMac to serve N to my MBP. Find a better solution like I did and skip it.

DO NOT BUY THIS. Apple's falsey advertised, utter disappointment, August 25, 2007
By Anonomous
I got the airport extreme, because I bought a new Macbook Pro. Almost nothing works as advertised, and the help text and website help is useless. First, my ISP requires a MAC address, and the airport does not share the internet signal very well. The Airport gives you a double-NAT error, and Airport recommends you disable internet--WHAT? this is why I got it for. After days and nights of figureing that out, I found where you could disable this message. The help files and manuals do little other than tell you how to plug it in. In troubleshooting, it tells you to disconnect the power and restart it. The reset switch does not reset the base station. If you go into the setup utility, your IP addresses and sharing and other things are the same. The only thing the reset button does is reset the password. In order to get my internet to work, I had to disable the NAT error, and I had to hard code an IP address in the DHCP screen. Is'nt DHCP dynamic? Why do I have to hard-code an IP in DHCP? It was hell getting the internet to work. The Wan port is advertised as a gigabit port. That may be true, but the other three ports are 100 Mbit ports--that's false advertising. USB port is the main reason I liked about this base station. I wanted to share my printer over it. Printer sharing: It only works with about 15 HP printers, unfortunately, it does not work with my printer. I also wanted to use the USB port for my external hard drive. It works with USB thumb drives, however it does not work with drives formatted in NTFS-it only works with FAT formatted drives. This again is not documented or advertised. You are hard-pressed to find any support on the website. It is a pretty unit. And I get good coverage (up to 250 feet outside the house) Over all, the reasons I bought this base station, I cannot use. And I cannot share resources with my Windows computers. Apple computers and OS are good, but their other products really suck. This thing is falsely advertised to work with USB printers and USB drives, but only a few of USB devices acutually work, and ISP sharing took me about a month (days and nights) to get it to work. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. BUY SOMETHING ELSE.

Sorry, Apple. This fanboy returned his Airport Extreme, August 24, 2007
By bp888 (Santa Clara, CA USA)
I bought the Airport Extreme Base Station because my old Linksys WRT54G died and also because most of computers at home are Apple. Big mistake. Other older devices in my home had no luck linking up with the Base Station. My Panasonic IP camera (current model), my older Series 2 TiVo and my 5-year old Dell desktop computer all would not see the Base Station with encryption on. So basically in order to keep the Base Station, I had to turn off encryption. Not a good idea. So now I'm returning it and buying another Linksys.

Other issue: Apple has to do things their way at the expense of convenience sometimes. For example, you cannot view the Base Station configuration screens using a web browser. You need to install a standalone application called Airport Utility. Consequently, you also cannot see your Cable Modem or DSL Modem configuration screens without disconnecting your setup and hooking up your modem directly by Ethernet to the Base Station.

Summary: Apple Airport Extreme Base Station has lots of compatibility issues.

It Just Works ... and is Simply The Best, August 18, 2007
By XrayLion (Milwaukee, WI United States)
I have used NetGear, Belkin, LinkSys, and D-Link wireless routers in the past. All of them had issues with coverage area and all were cryptic (Belkin less so) in the setup. The latest Airport Extreme was a snap (10 minutes tops) to set up. I am now sharing two printers (one over ethernet and one over USB) wirelessly. I have also setup a secure USB backup hard disk wirelessly along with these two printers. This is because you can plug a USB hub into the one USB port on this router and share all of the devices on the USB hub wirelessly. This feature is what sealed the deal for me... I have not found this feature on any other router for under $200. Get this one!

    Absolutely Great!, August 17, 2007
By Dave E. (Hardwick, New Jersey USA)
WORKS AS ADVERTISED! PLEASE READ. I use this in conjunction with my DSL service and couldn't be more satisfied. For home use, I have a 24" iMac which I have connected to the AirPort base station via built-in ethernet (i.e - hard wired). For work, I have a Toshiba laptop, TWO STORIES UP, and connect via WiFi to the AirPort base station. The laptop is running Windows XP SP2. I use a D-Link DWA-652 notebook adapter and CONSISTENTLY connect at 300.0 Mbps! Both the AirPort base station and the D-Link adapter are built on the 802.11n draft, and work great together. ONE BIG BUT (so to speak)...the 802.11n draft does NOT support WEP encryption. You can still connect with WEP enabled, but it will be at 802.11g-like speeds (i.e. - 56Mbps). Not using WEP has its obvious disadvantages, but the WiFi connection speed of 300.0 Mbps is outstanding.

This thing rocks!, August 15, 2007
By T. Tom (SF Bay Area, CA United States)
This thing rocks compared to my old wifi router, a Linksys. The Linksys would periodically freeze up and need to be reset or unplugged to get it even working again. The Apple Airport doesn't have that problem and is also noticeably faster. I also get better range-all without 2 ugly antennas sticking out too. I don't know how Apple does it, but they do it well.

It's easy to setup and manage and considering that it's so good, I think the price is fair. I actually regret buying my 2 previous routers that were cheaper. I should have just got this one to begin with.

My only complaint with the Apple Airport Extreme is that it tends to run a bit warm to the touch when in use. That's fine in the winter when the added heat in the room is welcomed, but in the Summer, I could do without that.

I can recommend this wifi router without reservation. Others have tested it and it performs the best out of all the 802.11n routers. The latest current version even has gigabit ethernet wired ports too!

    Excellent product, August 13, 2007
By Mohd A. Alqinai (Qurtoba, Kuwait)
It's a total solution for home based networks, it worked great with me. I still believe that Apple has to do some extra upgrades to support the n technology as they promised.

Make sure you buy the NEW updated 1GB version, August 9, 2007
By L. Feighery
Don't buy it without knowing you have the latest version that came out this week unadvertised. It has 1GB eathernet ports now. I have had some difficulty with devices dropping from teh USB port. Using and not using a USB hub.

Price is crazy, August 7, 2007
By Shawn Southworth (Huntsville, AL United States)
You can't remote manage this thing, it doesn't have 1000Mb ports. Find another product.
