Infinite problems, poor customer service, impossible troubleshooting, no return, July 11, 2008
By F. Cavallo (Zion)
My experience with this router has been hell. First, it wouldn't set up - 3 calls to India later, I was told they found out the problem with the router, and 2 hours after that, we finally got it working. But different problems arose a day later, and the same drill ensued - call India several times, eventually they fix it. I can count 5 separate occasions where something went wrong and was subsequently "fixed."
However each time they fixed one problem, another one popped up as a result.
They have refused a refund citing that they test every router before shipment.
The router is somewhat functional, however service is still intermittent and I have to reset it several times per day. Downloads and streaming sites are sloooow as can be.
needless to say I RECOMMEND EVERYONE AVOID THIS ROUTER.

Downloads stop for no reason, May 14, 2008
By Andrew P (Indiana, USA)
This router is fine if all you are doing is basic internet surfing, but if you try and stream video through youtube or download anything larger than a couple of megs or play a game online the router breaks connection and the downloads stop. This becomes a large problem in simple computer maintenance, such as windows updates. Buy a different router.

Great Router with a little bit of configuration, February 3, 2008
By >>electronic geek<< (Atlanta, GA USA)
This has been great to me so far. It's by far the easiest to set up no doubt about it. However, there will be a problem if you leave this router in factory setting.
Here is the symptom that I got when first running this router:
After installing using the included CD. Internet works but not as great as it should be. Download seems to stop in the middle of nowhere, videos loading seems to freezes and pages sometime just won't load period.
Here is the instruction to solve those frustrating problems.
Assuming that you are at the point where router is having those symptoms mentioned above, and that you have internet running through the router.
1. Open up IE or Firefox. On address bar, type in "192.168.2.1" and click enter.
2. Ativa wireless setup should load up. On top right, there is a Log In button. If this is your first time login in, leave it blank and submit.
3. Check up on the following: a) Internet WAN > Connection Type > select Dynamic; b) Wireless > Channel and SSID > Disable ESSID Broadcast, also set wireless channel to AUTO; b) Wireless > Security > set up your security, you should know what to do.
4. Now for the most important thing. Click Firewall, and DISABLE IT!! By doing this, it said that you'll will be vulnerable to hacker etc...blah blah, but with security keys to access wireless and virus program/window firewall should be enough to make you stop worrying. Apply changes, then the thing restarts and you are good to go.
Compare to my previous router, NetGear Rangemax, this is by far the easiest to use and "reliablest" one yet.
*Note: for those familiar with "Bridged" setting and stuff (Netgear), this wireless router is different. Your modem can be in PPoE and this thing will still work.

Bandwith Blackhole, September 29, 2007
By Christina Mello (mililani, Hi)
So we installed the wireless router and we began using it. After a while I noticed that pages took 10-15 minutes to load and no download could be completed. I thought I had a virus since my computer has 2.5 gigs of ram and a 500ghz of rom and few to no programs that would cause my computer to run slowly. I ended up wiping my drive and reinstalling just your basic windows and microsoft. And the problem persisted. I tried everything I could think of and then gave up and took it to get checked out. Everything was a-ok and running as it should. I was completely baffled. So then my roommate mentioned she was having the same problem. We disconnected the router and reconnected the cable directly to her computer and the problem vanished. This wireless router caused me to so much wasted time and money. I don't care how easy it is to set up it's not worth the amount of bandwith it magically digests causing all sorts of computer related problems. Also, we weren't networked so we couldn't exchange viruses. Although, I imagine if you did buy this program and networked the computers together with how slowly and badly the computer performs connected to this router I woulnd't be surprised if one computer caught a virus and it easily took out all computers on the network. DON'T BUY THIS PRODUCT IT IS EVIL INCARNATE!

Tech Support that Actually Works, August 5, 2007
By Robert (Reston, VA United States)
I just finished setting up the router, so I can't comment on it's wireless capabilities yet (hence the rating of 4).
However, I can say that I had trouble setting up the router, but the 24/7 tech support was surprisingly helpful. My experience with tech support is that I end up explaining to them what I should be doing. Although this guy was just going from a script, it must have been a good one. He eventually diagnosed it as my router needing the same MAC as my Mac.
So, while I can't speak to the quality of the item really, I can say that the tech support is solid.

VERY EFFECTIVE, July 29, 2007
By S.M. (ASHEVILLE, NC United States)
Easy. That is the word that comes to mind to describe this unit. Simple to setup, decent range and speed. Add to that several security options and a clean appearance and I'm sold. This was purchased to replace a netgear G unit that quit after an electrical surge by lightning fried it. The other devices this connects wirelessly to are a mix of netgear and ativa, ie. notebook card-netgear,usb dongle-netgear and ativa, printserver-netgear. All interoperate without a hitch, all are "G" network. Oh, and the ativa router is apparently belkin-made if that matters. Happy networking.
