It does what is says., March 23, 2007
By user (Lima, Per)
The router has a very strong signal and the hardware was very easy to install. My only complain is that it took me some time to set up my laptop for connecting with the configured secured signal. The CD & manual should have more information about this.

good product - great for non-techies, March 20, 2007
By user (California)
It does as advertised. Compared to my previous d-link b/g wireless router: Consistently up, I can make wireless connections with my existing components much faster, and it seems to be more compatible. For a rather technical home electronics component, it has a ridiculously simple setup and troubleshooting process - far better than anything I've seen in this class before - so if you aren't a techie, then this is a good wireless router for you. I'm not using the "N" band, however the range for "G" is fairy good as well (better than my previous router). Though mercifully I haven't had to test it out yet, Belkin is one of the few (perhaps the ONLY) companies offering a lifetime warranty for a wireless router, so this bodes well too. Though it doesn't have the maximum amount of configurable options (such as assigning static IP's within DHCP - only directly) I have been quite happy with this product after a few months. When it becomes outdated, it even has a "access point mode" where it can simply be used to boost the range of another existing wireless network.

Belkin N1 Wireless Router, February 28, 2007
By user (Manchester, CT USA)
The Belkin N1 is fast. This router has never dropped a connection. Setup was easy and I was done in less than 15 min. The blue lighted panel lets you see your connections. So far I'm glad I picked this product and would buy it again. I haven't need any customer support for this router.

Excellent Wireless Router, February 24, 2007
By user (Michigan USA)
This unit exceeded my expectations. The setup was very easy, and has worked with both Windows (Vista) and Apple computers with no problems. The power produces 5 bars of signal, and is fast enough for quality streaming video. Very good unit.

I like Belkin...but not this product., February 12, 2007
By user
I tried to upgrade my entire home network with this and other Belkin wireless-N products. All of them work terrific except this wireless-N router. Fortunately, I kept my previous Belkin wireless-G router with integrated print server and put it back into my network...all is great now. With the wireless N router, I considered myself lucky when my laptops both connected. Wireless N is simply an extension of the 802.11g standard with more security. It also incorporated ultra wideband technology. Unfortunately, whenever my one laptop connected at the max rate of 300Mbps, my other devices were unable to connect. I had to drop back to 802.11b and g standard that maxed at 54 Mbps, but allowed my other laptop to usually connect. That is, it connected only after a reboot, setting an advanced feature that always defaults to 'disabled', and waiting 10 minutes to connect -- even in a high signal stength environment. Belkin support told me to use channel 11 and turn 'Protective mode' off. In the end, I dumbed the wireless-N router down to my older 80211.g standard and it performed worse than my old router. Connect times averaged 10 minutes after boot-up, and sometimes failed to connect. My XBOX 360 connected OK, but my XBOX never - ever connected with the wireless-N router, even in the 802.11 b & g mode. Further, connections were unstable, meaning they would drop out for no apparant reason. Ultimately, I gave up, re-introduced my older Belkin wireless-g router with built-in print server -- and LOVE it! I'm a geek, and I build chips and write digital signal processing code all day long...and I have to admit, WHOEVER DEVELOPED THE WIRELESS-N BELKIN ROUTER GOT THROUGH COLLEGE ON PARTIAL CREDIT! I really like Belkin products, even their other wireless-G products, like their USB adapter and desktop card. But, their wireless-N router needs to be scraped and re-developed. I would buy Belkin products - I do - but stay away from their wireless-N router!

Better Range with Wireless g, January 29, 2007
By user (Miramar, FL USA)
The range on this item is awful. I expected it to have better range than Wireless g. It didn't. What a disappointment.
Set-up and installation was easy, though.

bad connect.....tech support drops connect and does not know sh......!, January 28, 2007
By user (east coast)
After some research traded in my old linksys which was not quite getting a signal up to the third floor of my home.....but the connection was otherwise GREAT!.
the Belkin.....easy to set up...but constantly lost the connection and signal strenght was about the same as my linksys.
Each tech support chucklehead had a different suggestion..and they dropped my call twice...right in the middle of problem solving and did not call back!
I cannot imagine a worse company or product!

You either have a BAD UNIT, or you didn't upgrade the firmware, or your ISP sucks and you should get a new one!! NUFF SAID!!, January 28, 2007
By user (dotcomcom_seller)
You know, I read the other buyers reviews who say they are getting signal drops, bad signals, no signals, weak signals. I must ask them to consider that it is their ISP and not their BELKIN N-1 Router. I have had mine on for three months straight with it connected to one wired PC, three wireless PC's, two wireless X-box 360's, two wireless IPAQ's, and two wireless Sony PSP's. All of these devices work great with no DROPS, no WEAK signals, no REBOOTS. So I say to those having problems: You either have a BAD UNIT, or you didn't upgrade the firmware, or your ISP sucks and you should get a new one!! NUFF SAID!!
N1--Experience high-performance wireless networking Offering the easiest way to setup a wireless network, N1 lets you share your Internet connection with your linked computers. Its significant range and speed (300Mbps*) improvements over Wireless G make N1 ideal for transferring video, music, and photo files. Belkin's N1 Wireless Router features topside LEDs that make monitoring and troubleshooting your connections easier than ever.

Very smooth installation - up and running in just a few minutes. I'm running two Mac's and two wireless Wii's all working very fast. Stowell

Slow performance, January 18, 2007
By user (USA)
I was impressed on how easy it was to setup this router until I started running some performance tests on it and found out it was 4 times slower than my wired Linksys router using either the wired or wireless ports.
I tried updating the firmware to the latest version and when I did it was unable to see my DSL modem without reverting back to the previous version. So I returned it.

Amazing Router, January 11, 2007
By user (Hoboken)
The router itself is outstanding, however see my review of the Desktop Card if that's what you're pairing it with. Still, there is nothing I would change about the router.

As compared to my older router, this does not do anything more. Not worth the extra money for features does not work.

A little rough on the takeoff but great otherwise!, January 7, 2007
By user (Baltimore, MD)
So im no computer nerd, but I do know how to use the internet to look up the latest news and por....I mean just news. Anyways, I did alot of searching and homework before I bought a router and I scored with this one. As in the title it took me about 2 hours on the phone with tech support but after all the running around and keystrokes, Im connected and this baby works great. Ive yet to see speeds of 300 mbps like advertised but im averaging about 130-150. Not too bad. I get good range all over my house and havent had any problems so far. All in all I think this was a good choice for my first router. I recommend this to any other first time buyers out there in the world of cyber.

Good for Home...not for Enterprise, January 7, 2007
By user (Sugar Land, Texas USA)
Outstanding Router were it not for some wireless glitches. I now share my wireless network with my inlaws 3 houses away (though clear line of sight). Took a long time to sort out why I couldn't maintain a wireless connection even within my house though...and I note some people think the wireless does not even work.
A review of the product at "Tom's Hardware" website finally pointed me to the problem. Apparently, the router has some hardware issues related to their Security feature. If you enable WPA-2 the signal can drop by more than 85% leading you to believe it doesn't work...I'd suggest you read that review.
Based on that, I removed the Security settings and all my problems with dropped connections etc. ceased. I provide some security by using the MAC Filtering and not transmitting the SSID. I suspect that is sufficient for a home router but not for an enterprise. But I could not engage the WPA-2 (either TKIP or AES) and get any reliable range or connection out of this router. Caused a great deal of frustration for awhile. But now it works great and I get the range and speed I was hoping for.

Not worth the hassle, January 5, 2007
By user (Louisiana, USA)
When this router works, it works well.
But it I've had numerous problems with it, and Belkin's tech support it worthless. When I've called them I simply got walked through a script that checked only the most obvious problems. When I e-mailed for support I got unhelpful responses. E.g., when it became apparent that the wireless card in my client was conflicting with Norton's security software, Belkin's proposed solution was "Uninstall Norton." Why not just include a virus in the e-mail saying that, while you're at it?
The Belkin software on my client crashed the OS so often that I just uninstalled it and use the native XP software (with the Belkin drivers)--this was after I tried the "updated" version of the software, which crashed the OS instantly, instead of just often. The router itself drops the wireless connection on a regular basis, about once every 2 days. A soft reboot followed by a hard reboot is required to restart wireless connectivity. I've updated the firmware and checked for other networks on the same channel--nothing I've tried prevents the router from dropping all wireless on a regular basis.
If either the router worked better, or the tech support was adequate, I would recommend this router. With both bugs and crappy tech support, it's not worth it.

Good performance but its early, January 1, 2007
By user (Austin, Texas)
The setup was as easy as any router I've had and the performance just as good or better. I replaced a year old G netgear rangemax 240 router with this router because I was looking for a little better range with the N1. I was getting a number of dropped connections with the netgear. So after one week the router has only had issues with my very new HP laptops (both of them have a weak signal from sixty feet and 6 walls). My Fujitsu laptop's G internal card gets a better signal than the HP laptops and rarely drops a signal. Over the last three years I've owned two linksys routers and the netgear. Both of the linksys's wireless routers eventually quit working(about a 12 months apiece). I don't think any of these wireless router brands are perfect. Match up these newer routers with a like network card for the best range and performance.

Worth the Money!, January 1, 2007
By user
Alright, this Christmas I was surprised with an Xbox 360 and a Linksys wireless router. I tried setting up the Linksys first to get my 360 online, but there was no luck.
The next day we stopped in at Circuit City, replaced the Linksys, and got this one. All I can say so far is GREAT! Even though it's a little bit more money than the Linksys, it's far worth it. I get 100% signal on both my 360 and laptop.
This product is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
