Must have for gamers who play online/over newtork!, July 18, 2007
By ReAl GmR (Souther California)
My ISP is Verizon, and I have FIOS (Fiber-Optic Internet @ 15 MBPS Down/2 MBPS Up). I play ALOT of games over the internet, mostly with my Xbox 360 and some PC. Half the time there are 1 or more 360s hooked up playing on Xbox Live through this router. All I have to say is that this router makes a tremendous difference if your playing video games, because the Gamefuel technology built within the firmware of the router prioritzes connections and data transfer for games (when Gamefuel is turned on). Very easy set up right out of the box; I just connected an ethernet cable from my fiber line to the DGL-4300 and set my PPPOE settings for the router and set up my WPA-2 wireless security settings all in less than a minute. Quick and easy. This router has a very fast wireless connection and over the wired newtowrk there is always ZERO lag because of the gigabit speeds over LAN. I notice a big difference online in games from when I used my normal 10/100 D-link four port switch. I highly recommend this product if you are a gamer; though there is no need for a product like this if you don't play games online or over a netowrk. There is a reason why every gaming magazine gave editor's choice awards for this piece of hardware; this is a must have for gamers who don't need lag in there lives. There is only 1 minor gripe that I have for this product, and that is the LEDs on the unit are very bright, hopefully you don't set this router up in the room of a person that sleeps there. I actually just turned the router towards a wall. Other than that, this is an A+ router with the gamerfuel tech.D-Link DGL-4300 Wireless 108G Gaming Router

Awesome!, July 6, 2007
By DG (Bay Area, USA)
This is one outstanding router. Easy to set up and extremely efficient in utilizing the cable modem bandwidth. I bought this after comparing router performances at www.tomshardware.com and am extremely happy with it.

Finally a router that is not complete junk., July 6, 2007
By herf jonez (San Francisco, CA)
This is my 4th router in about 2 years. I was about to throw in the towel and build my own, as the Belkin pre-N I had turned into a brick after 2 months and I was living in Europe, so dealing with support and warranty and shipping was impossible. I replaced it with a Linksys WRT54GS which I'm still using as a WIFI access point and nothing else, as it's pretty junky with a stupid setup. (I use 2 routers because a lot of my gear is in the garage where it would be a bad place for a WIFI AP due to it's non central location in the house.) I installed one of those at my fathers house (the linksys) and it's ok but pretty bad. Has to be rebooted frequently and support is awful (web and phone.) The new BFE linksys router is absolute junk... just search on those reviews.
The setup on this D-Link is ok, it could be a lot better. Part of the problem is that this is an advanced full featured router... there are a ton of features and options. It took me about 10 minutes to set up and I replaced my older linksys wired router (also junk), turned on an intensive UPnP app and tried to break this thing and so far so good! No dropped connections on sustained, intensive use for a few days now.
D-Link products are notoriously horrible as well, and their support is also really bad, so I felt like I was taking another gamble with this one but so far it's paid off.
Note the only features I use are StaticIP, wired router (I've disabled the wifi), DHCP server and UPnP for automatic port forwarding. With many of these crappy routers, it depends on what features you're using... some feature that I'm not using may well break it for you.
Good luck!

A little tricky with dsl setup, July 3, 2007
By BW Bluto (IL)
Great product and great shipping. A little tricky when connecting to dsl though but you have to remove the companion software after setting up your account or else you will not have a usable connection. They do state this in the instructions and on their website.

Excellent router, June 16, 2007
By Steve (United States)
I have a home network that includes 4 machines, 3 hard-wired and one wireless. Aside from a fair amount of business conductyed on the net, my wife, step-son and I are gamers, playing Everquest specifically.
My old router, a Belkin pre-N, was not performing well. We sufferred a significant amount of lag that increased as each machine signed on the Everquest. If the wireless machine was online - just to the internet (Everquest is not played on the wireless typically)- the game was unplayable anywhere.
I purchased the D-Link based on the reviews I had read here, in PC-Gamer mag online, and on C-Net. The router performs nearly flawlessly. It was plug ad play, everthing just worked immediately on startup. We can now play with no lag even with 2-boxing on some machines and the wireless machine online In fact as a test I logged the wireless on to EQ as well. The wireless did incur some minor lag, but it has no video card upgrade and a mere 512 RAM. Still the game was more playable on the wireless using the D-Link 4300 tha the other VERY upgraded machines hardwireed to the Belkin.
If you are a gamer running multiple machines, you need to consider this router!!! I am very happy with this purchase.

The rebate experience is disastrous, June 2, 2007
By P. Chung (Bellevue, WA)
I bought this D-Link wireless router and adapter together in February and expected $50 rebate from them. I received a card from them today saying they did not receive the UPC symbols for both products.
I taped the UPC symbols to the rebate form and made a copy before I sent them out. I insisted that they lost the UPC symbols to no avail. I think their processing staff was not very careful. They also misspelled part of my name.
I am suprised to find many bad rebate experiences with D-link on the Internet. I will write a letter to the company to complaint formally.

A rather complex gadget!, May 30, 2007
By kidnugget (Bakersfield, CA USA)
This router does all that it claims to do, and more, but it is not without its problems. I bought it for my Xbox 360 (it's officially on their approved list, unlike my last router!), and it gets me into some great, high speed Live situations. Most of the reviews here are outstanding for this little guy, so I won't duplicate what others have said. I'll simply share my own downsides.
1)Very complex piece of ordinance! I'm fair with computers, and I have a friend who programs video games, a friend who just graduated with several certificates in computers, and a friend who is a full professor of computer science. It took all four of us about two weeks to get this router set up properly. There are a million and one settings to juggle around, and if you don't know your way around a router, skip this one and go for something much more simple.
2)You have to do some real trouble shooting to open ports and get the settings just right for your 360. In my case, the WEP level of security didn't ever work with my 360. The Xbox just couldn't pass the log in test. I spent three days on the phone with customer support from microsoft as well as dlink, and they each blamed each other. Eventually, I went more secure and used WPA security, and my 360 loved it. My Wii also synced up with no problems (although now, my Nintendo DS doesn't get online since it doesn't support WPA security).
3)Horrible customer support! Dlink has the worst customer support. Usually, I've gotten computer support from people who know a little and rely on the computer prompting them a little. These guys and gals know NOTHING. They got me more screwed up following their instruction than I was before I called in. To boot, their accents were incredibly thick and their phone system was full of static. I couldn't ever hear what they were saying, and when I did, I couldn't understand them. Kinda frustrating... To boot, two of the three people I dealt with were just plain rude! If you need support, good luck.
4)Finally, and this isn't really a complaint, if you use it for the Xbox 360, you'll need to get Firmware version 1.6 (or 1.2 or 1.3). Mine came with 1.7, and I upgraded to 1.8 before I learned that neither of these support Xbox live. I downgraded back to 1.6, and everything's fine. (For more technical info on this router and others, you can go to portforward.com)
Again, this router has a ton of features. If you know your way around a network, you'll really your money out of this thing, and I highly suggest you buy it. I learned a ton just setting mine up and getting it to talk to my gaming systems. Now that it's up and running, I wouldn't get rid of it. If you're hoping for a simple plug and play router, though, go with another one that has fewer features and fewer settings to screw you up! I'd give it a higher rating if it was more accessible to the average joe, but as it is, I have to give it low marks and warn the average consumer away from it.

d-link 4300 ,,must have for gamers, May 19, 2007
By J. Anderson (CA,)
used to have problems finding/joining groups on x-box live,, would run a systems check and the N.A.T. would be at moderate to strict, even after new firmware was installed.. this was a linksys, i have also tried other brands, the linksys was listed on x-box web as compatable, however trying to party up with some one using the same router, sitting in the same room 80% of time we could not get into any games and if we did we got laged out or droped, and if some one was on the computer it was worse,BUT SINCE GETTING THE D-LINK 4300; ALL IS GOOD the N.A.T is always on open no problems, DOES EVERYTHING THATS PROMISED, SET UP TOOK 3-5 MINUTES BUY IT

great for gaming just not downloading, May 10, 2007
By Michael R. Frankel (Stafford, VA)
if you have this wirelessly connected to your 360 then it is great until you start downloading a demo. you HAVE to buy an ethernet cable if you want to download it fast, It took 3 hours to get a 1 gig downloaded only 22%!!!!!!! get a direct connect to your modem if you want to download, but its awesome just for playing online, gets a little laggy if there are multiple users on like 3-4. Very easy to set up and it took 10-15 mins to get it up and running very good!!

Great Gaming Router, May 7, 2007
By Finman
Works great with my cable modem and sharing between two desktops, a laptop, XBox 360, and Wii. Very fast throughput and great for tinkering with the settings. I found some great advice on the web about settings for XBox Live and to give the XBox360 a set address (instead of DHCP) and tweak the settings for optimal gameplay.
Highly recommended!

Great Product, April 10, 2007
By Headmaster Squall (Ogden, UT)
I was deciding between this and some comparable Linksys products and this was the best "bang for the buck" router I could find. I plugged it in and everything just worked. This has been the easiest router I have set up yet. I have had zero down time, with the exception of when configuring some settings that require a reboot. I would recommend this router for anyone who wants gigabit lan speeds and a stable wireless connection. The only thing this device lacks is the new 802.11n specs, and that's no big deal because of the built in MIMO system that gives you the higher speeds with other D-Link devices.

Echo earlier review - this is the best router I've ever owned, April 6, 2007
By omnidissident (Denmark, Europe)
In short - this router is excellent.
First impression: Sleek, black router, with nice blue LEDs (looks great in the dark :). Appears finely crafted and pretty sturdy. WiFi antenna is larger than other routers, which I suppose is a good thing.
Tech specs are impressive (altough 108 Mbps WLAN isn't top of the line anymore - 802.11g has been trumphed by 802.11n), but the Gigabit LAN ports and the 100 Mbps WAN port means that this router gives you room to grow, both inside of your house, and on the link to the rest of the world. 100 Mbps WAN access means you will be able to take advantage of high-speed fiber internet and the coming generation of Cable modems.
Setup: Setup is a snap - it is very easy and good-looking in your web browser (setup also works in FireFox, which is more than I can say for some other D-link routers :/ ). The router automatically checks your WAN connection when you boot it up, making setup easier.
Works with no problems whatsoever in a mixed PC environment, using Macs, Linux boxen and Windows PC's.
It supports WPA2 for maximum WLAN security - if you do anything more important than casual browsing, you should not use WPA, and under no circumstances WEP!!!
Last thing, the specs does not mention this, but the LAN ports are NOT switched, so if you care about in-house data security where the router is to be installed, get a secondary Gigabit switch to hook all of your LAN computers up to, so others cannot do packet sniffing on your network activity.
In short, highly recommended, despite the high price tag.

D-Link DGL-4300 Wireless Gaming Router - Gigabit Switch, April 2, 2007

This thing rocks! Easy to use interface and excellent security features. Don't buy anything less.

XBL users must read this!, February 23, 2007
By C. Six
I bought this because I host a ton of games in RainbowSix. Out of the box the gamerfuel is nice. HOWEVER, if you're going to host games in Xbox live, you MUST go to the advanced tab, gamefuel link and uncheck the "Dynamic Fragmentation" box. This will resolve and "Disconnected from Xbox Live" errors received while hosting.

Best yet., February 10, 2007
By Crikpaw (burkesville, ky United States)
The DGL-4300 allows me to connect 3 XBox360s and two original XBoxs to XBox Live all at the same time through one cable connection. No problems with the NAT and no disconnects. Its easier to set up than any other Router I've tried with clear instructions that even my wife could follow. Before the DGL 4300 I was not able to get just two XBoxes connected without disconnect and NAT problems and had tried Netgears FVS338, Linksys's WRT54G, Dlink's DI-614+, DI-804HV and DI-624 and even fiddled with a Cisco Pix 501. One of the XBOX360's is located across the street and connecting wirelessly with no noticable lag. Its really the best router I've ever owned.

Solid Router, February 8, 2007
By C. Ruiz (Springfield, Va United States)
I had a Linksys router 54G that I bought a couple of years ago. At first it was okay, but recently it started dropping the connection more often than not. After resetting it, updating the firmware, buying the high gain antennas for it, I broke down and I bought the D-Link DGL-4300. It is fast, reliable with a solid signal. Sure it's a little more expensive than other non-N routers, but it's a great device.

The one to buy!, February 6, 2007
By T. Andrich (Denver, CO)
First of all, I own several wireless devices such as laptops, wireless cards in desktops, PSP, PDA and games such as PS2, Xbox and Xbox 360. I have tried several 802.11G routers Linksys, Belkin and Netgear and none of them has provided the level of overall performance for lag free gaming and usage from all my devices at the same time. I work in the IT field and I recommend buying this router for your wireless needs. You cant go wrong!

Works great for the 360 - NAT is now OPEN, January 24, 2007
By John Hillestad (Ft Lauderdale, FL USA)
My linksys would sometimes cause my 360 to go to moderate on my nat for no reason - so playing call of duty 3 I would never find or get into matches. This router easily has options to easily place the 360 into the proper port forwards and DMZ . The router has some nice setup features that the linksys makes archaic while the 4300 is more understandable and workable.
So if you have an xbox 360 and your nat is always moderate or strict and wont stay open then give this router a try - its xbox live certified .

A great router, January 21, 2007
By Maros
This is a great router. I won't go into all the tech specs since other reviews do that quite well. But what I will say will hopefully be helpful for the layman: If you have shared drives, run p2p apps, game online, and generally do things that require a solid router to just do it's thing, this is a great one to get.
At first I was very fearful of other D-Link network product reviews mentioning problems with getting proper bandwidth on a mixed 100/1000 network but everything acts as it should. I was also fearful of this router (like other network items I have used in the past) getting overly hot, but it only runs slightly warm.
The loudness of the lights on this unit cannot be overstated, however. This works quite well in the living room so I don't trip while going for a midnight snack, but would be seriously problematic in a bedroom without boxing it up.
The manual - which is PDF - is OK but like seemingly many products isn't the best. For the layman a quick google search will help you find what you need. There seems to be a good supporting population using this router.
Wireless with Netgear USB adapters worked quite well until a Windows update nerfed the adapters, but otherwise the router itself handled it all properly.
I only gave it 4 stars because of the PDF-only manual, but otherwise a great router.
