    Continual trouble, May 9, 2008

I have been using this router for over a year. It has been continual trouble and resets/reconfigurations. I have had to reset it so many times that the reset button has failed. Now I am hosed. I will dispose of this product today and find another brand. I do not recommend this product.

This router works great for me. For those who complain on this router, I suggest they read the manual first and download the latest firmware.

Wow! What a wide range of stars in the reviews. Had to add mine.
Installed My DI-624 in 2004. Networking not my thing THEN.
We have two desktops and two laptops on the net ranging from 7[...] to 1. The old laptop would drop out, sometimes 3-4 times in 2 minutes (flutter). Drove my wife up the wall.

Frequent dropouts and reboots (pulling the plug, etc.). Get the hammer ready.

And then ---
!!!! I realized that my wireless mice were interfering with the network and the computers, dropouts, fatal blue screens and other screwy symptoms.
Replaced all with corded mice and --- Wonderful. Problems reduced by about 75%.

Started depowering the backup power supply at night, the ones only the router and the Qwest modem were on (same as pulling the plugs for reboot).

Almost never have the dropout or flutter problem, maybe once a week.

Have installed three units already, between myself and other family members, and never had any of the problems written up by previous reviewers. It works flawlessly with both Macs and PCs, Playstation Portables, Nintendo Wii. Very easy to set up restricted access. If you are having any problems, visit the D-Link site and update to the latest firmware version--one of which is supposed to fix the router from restarting every 30 minutes.

It works for me!, November 29, 2006

This router works great for me. I have setup at least 10 of them for clients and also use one myself at home without any problems. From my personal experience, I have to give it 5 stars and I'm about to order 3 more of them.

I'll have to agree with all of you people. I had the same problem with DI-624 for a long time. My problem was mostly when the router was configured for wireless network: it kept rebooting itself very often which annoyed the hell out of me. I did a lot of research on this issue and when I couldn't find anything at all, including calling D-LINK which was waste of time, I decided to try one more thing. I updated the router with the latest firmware (and I keep doing it every two months ever since), then I configured the wireless network as WPA-PSK on channel 11 instead of 6 which is most common and it might interfere with other wireless networks around the area. I disabled the broadcast of my SID and created long password for it mixed with letters and numbers, and I made sure that some letters are actually CAPs to make it harder to break in. I tried using it for a couple of weeks and voila: no more disconnections. I have this router running for over a year now without any disconnections at all except when I do some software updates which forces network connections to lose connectivity. I'll have to add that most of the electronic devices, such as microwaves especially, use the same frequency as the router (2.4 GHZ), so changing the channel is the first thing you gotta think of. I hope it was helpful.

    Disconnects frequently ... Don't buy, November 5, 2006

Initially it worked for a while; then it started dropping connections. Every time it does, you need to restart the router to get it connected. This piece is a total waster -- Don't waste your money and time (on debugging it).

I wish there was a ZERO STAR selection. I am on my second unit, and both do the same thing: reboot whenever they feel like it.

When I was on the phone with tech support getting an RMA for the first unit, it rebooted over two dozen times in 20 minutes. I just got the replacement unit installed today, and 30 minutes later it was rebooting.

I have removed it and reinstalled my older DI-614+

I have seen many posts on various sites across the Internet from people who have the same problem. Avoid the DI-624!!!

This is the most difficult product I've ever tried to deal with. And I'm technical minded. After over an hour of going through the same steps over and over, it would not configure. So at this point, I decide to give tech. support a call. On hold forever. And ever. Then, the rudest person came on the phone and told me to unplug this thing, wait five min, and try again. What the crap is that? If that is the only cracker jack advice you can give, GO OUT OF BUSINESS. When I said "I think I'll return the product" she said, "ok" and hung up on me. Simple as this: they didn't want to talk, so they give you crappy advice for a crappy product. PERIOD. If you buy this, you're a FOOL.
