It works - mostly, June 9, 2008
By Tolginator (Seattle, WA)
Hmm. I have Revision C.
I am not about to say this is crap or that this thing is rock solid. This is a second tier wireless router. It used to drop the network every now and then and resets itself -- I am not sure if it still does that after a couple of firmware updates. Oh, yes, go get the latest firmware for it, and don't run without updating the firmware. Unfortutely, restoring your settings from a saved file does not work, so you'll have to configure the thing manually. That is somewhat annoying, but since firmware updates seem to come to a closure, maybe you don't need that anymore :)
I have only two RJ45s connected to it: one that comes from my DSL modem (I think it is marked on the device with "WAN"), and only one of the 4-ports that I connecto my my internal network. That only port is connected to another switch in my intranet. I wanted to connect a computer directly to one of this guy's 4-ports, but it dropped the connection (or reset itself) so frequently, I got fed up with it and just treat it as if it is part of my DSL modem.
So, if you have the idea that you could use this as your internal swotch, I urge you to reconsider that aspect. Use it as a firewall, as a wireless router, a DHCP server, etc., but not as a general purpose switch togeher with the rest.

Product is ok, D-link support SUCKS big time, March 31, 2008
By RJ (USA)
have been using this product for more than a year .. the product is great, but the d-link support SUCKS!! after i got it and installed it (by the way, the installation was simple for me, the direction were acurate), my phone like was interfering with the signals and whenever i got a call, i used to loose connection.
So i called the d-link support to ask for suggestions. The first line of support had some standard answers about changing channels etc which were not really helpful. So they transferred me to their technical support and the nerve of that guy who answered the call .. he just told me not to use my phone .. i was so pissed that if that guy was in front of me i would really have given him a piece of my mind .. i told him that if you guys knew that there would be such problem (especially since he had a ready answer), why do they not publish this as a known issue of their product in their website .. i also asked him how would he react if called for some support for some other product and got such an answer .. anyway, after thanking him for NOTHING and telling him that i would be returning the product (he cared less whether i returned it or not), i hung up the phone .. anyway, i calmed down and started looking at the setup and various options and got a channel or downloaded the latest software (i do not remember eactly what i did) but i got it working .. i have not really had any serious issues with it since .. do note that i am a software professional and so kind of knows about software and hardware installations because building software is my job ..
i recently shifted to a bigger house which has 2 floors and i have the router on the top floor .. currently i am connected with it from the floor below and it is showing full signal .. i do have the "booster" option on .. i do not remember the correct option, but i am sure you can find that in the settings ..
a point to note that is that when you reboot the router, it looses all the setting like the MAc filters etc and becomes available to everyone .. something which might be obvious to others, but i missed and noticed it when i reviewed the logs and found lot of my neighbours using my router .. someone accidently or purposely even changed some of my settings because even the admin password got reset to the defaults ..

D-Link DI-624 Wireless Cable/DSL Router, February 19, 2008
By Emerson Apolinario (Sao Paulo, Brasil)
I recently purchased this routerD-Link DI-624 Air Plus XtremeG Wireless 108G Router and am very pleased with my choice. It was my first online experience and it went very smoothly. Not afraid to do it again. It hooked up easily, no glitches.

Terrible, February 17, 2008
By Governor11201 (Brooklyn, NY)
Opted to try this router after frying out two Linky's over two years. Thought that I should be getting a longer usable life than I had been getting. Bought the D-Link 624 as replacement - huge mistake. This router drops the signal constantly, the firmware update makes almost no difference. Check of other web-reviews confirms this is a common, unfixable problem for the router. Do not buy.

Absolutely terrible., January 27, 2008
By Clint Airtiote (Union City, CA USA)
Drops connections every 15 minutes or so. Upon boot up the connection is "limited". (Turning the router off and on is the only way I've found to fix this) After upgrading to the latest firmware from Dlink's website the connection now only drops about every 2 hours, which is still intolerable not to mention annoying as hell considering that I use the laptop in the SAME room as the router. Still haven't fixed the limited connection problem though.

I unpacked the product, installed it, and have been useing it ever since with no problems. I have an Acer Laptop (wireless) and an Apple iMac (Ethernet) on the network in my home, and both perform very well on DSL.

BAD, December 2, 2007
By Q. Yip
The worst router that I ever use! Super unstable, bad customer service. They are unwilling to repair/exchange/refund their defective product. The tech support only asked me to follow their troubleshoot procedure. However, it wasn't to fix the problem even I followed their procedures for three times! D-Link: I am not purchasing the product for troubleshooting. At the end, I got a new Netgear router. This brand is much better and much stable. Get a Netgear router! It is much cheaper and much better.

Good to go here, November 23, 2007
By Spartan Child
I have owned the D-Link DI-624 for about a year now and moved from San Diego to Florida with no problems setting it up to our cable modem in both places. My daughters laptop picks up a strong signal everywhere in our two-story house and my son plays Xbox Live downstairs (with the router connected upstairs) with no trouble at all. Every once in a blue moon (like once a month) something trips it and they lose the connection but we just hit the reset button on the back and it's up and flying again within seconds. I'm a grumpy, easily irriated man and our monthly reset routine doesn't even raise my blood pressure. The wireless internet connection appears to be just as fast as my hardwired connection on our main computer. I'm happy with the performance.

Very good. It's basic, but works fine., November 22, 2007
By Rodolfo Rosetti Piva (Curitiba, PR, Brazil)
Nice product. It has the basic functions and I already connected 3 wireless devices and it is working fine. No delays at all. The range is fine. I live in a 2 store house and it works on the second floor. When I go downstairs it does work but no more than through 2 walls.

Wireless lemon, November 17, 2007
By tech (Seattle, WA USA)
I don't know about the other reviewers writing good reviews, but I've had the router for almost a year. I've been having many problems with the wireless--very slow speed, intermittent disconnection and even spontaneous reboots. I'm tech savvy and have tried different settings to no avail. I have wasted much time trying to fix the problem.
A month ago, I decided that I couldn't live any longer with the frequent connection drops, and had it exchanged by D-Link. The old router has firmware v2.76. The new one has v5.00. I still get serious wireless problems with the replacement. The wireless connection often becomes very slow for no good reason, while at the same time, the wired connection still looks good and has good bandwidth. Given that what I have is a v5.00 replacement, I think this product is beyond redemption.
Given the numerous complaints about the wireless connection, that D-Link gave me a replacement that doesn't really fix the problem doesn't reflect well on them, either. I don't think I'll buy D-Link ever again, but if they pay me to give their product so someone I hate, I might consider.

Bad bad router, October 18, 2007
By Maryana Alegro
The worst piece of hardware I've ever bought! Even having the latest firmware in it, it just wont work right. Keeps lagging the connection and now D-link has discontinued the product. Just don't buy it. Buy something from linksys instead.

The DI-624 is a piece of GARBAGE!!!, September 25, 2007
By Jimbo R (Chicago Area)
This thing is junk with a Capital J. Range is lousy (I sit 20' away in my living room and I lose connection - 1 plaster wall in between). At best, I get 27% on signal strength and 21% quality of data.
When I first got it, I couldn't print to my network printer from the laptop. I had to downgrade the firmware 3 revisions in order to allow network resources like the PRINTER to be used.
I can be accessing email through my server and I'll get an error that I can't access my PST file, so log off and restart Outlook, wait a few minutes while it resyncs the PST and then try again. By that time I may have lost the connection again. Power down reboot the router and it's okay for a day or so.
I could never get 108MBPS from it.
With all of this, I've tried contacting tech support via email 23 times and have yet to get an answer from them outside of the typical "reset the router to factory defaults and start the configuration over with the 'Wizard'. I've been an IT professional for 7 years now and have configured Cisco equipment without a hitch. The 'wizard' won't let me set things up the way I need it for my network, and even when I did once, it still didn't work correctly.
Buy a Netgear, Linksys, anything but this piece of electronic feces. I wish there was a rating for -5 stars. That would be closer to my experience.

No more D-Link Products for me, September 18, 2007
By Tiger (Lindon, Utah USA)
Out of the box my router never worked 100% correctly. It would not keep the correct date and time, some functions didn't work as described. I was told to update the firmware, but when I did, the new firmware introduced new and worse problems, so I stayed with the old firmware and its problems for over a year. When I finally decided to go to the latest firmware, it was a disaster. It filled my inbox with logs of TWINGE Attacks. I contacted Comcast and was told by them that they have only had complaints of this problem from D-Link users. They tried to set up a conference call with D-Link, but it didn't succeed. D-link was unable to deal with the problem and said they would replace the router. But the RMA department wouldn't do it until more trouble shooting was attempted. The tech who was supposed to do it couldn't deal with it and escalated to level 3. The Level 3 tech asked me to send some of the logs, which I did. I never received a response to that (sent 8/28/07). When I received no response, I sent an email asking why, but received no response to that. Sept 18 I contacted D-Link again and was sent to a Level-2 person who then processed the paperwork to allow an RMA, and one was issued by the end of the day. When I read all the rules and procedures for the RMA I felt it was not worth the cost of postage to go any further. This is not a company I want to do business with. I'd rather go buy a new router from another company with better products and support.

Cost effective and technically strong choice, September 14, 2007
By BobH-OKC (OKC, OK USA)
The D-Link DI-624 Wireless Cable/DSL Router is probably the best you can buy for the money, and technically superior to all of its competitors in this price range. This is my 3rd purchase of this product --- one for myself a year ago, and two others for friends with a need for a secure wireless environment in their home offices. The documentation (pdf on CD-ROM) is excellent for both the novice and experienced tech. Strong WPA security with 128-bit encryption was a breeze by following instructions, and picking up a random key from "Yellowpipe Internet Services" at http://www.yellowpipe.com/yis/tools/WPA_key/generator.php
I strongly recommend this product.

Works flawless! Better than Belkin, September 2, 2007
By Xerotolerance (Seattle, WA United States)
I had a Belkin, which I found out later was the "Huffy" of wireless routers. A friend of mine who is a network engineer recommended this model. The Belkin would work for an hour or so, then go down.
Since I've plugged in the D-Link, we have had our connection since Nov 2006. Hasn't gone down once.
I use this D-Link with my iMac and Macbook.

This was a very good purchase for an experienced user since I did have to know about the setup and downloading the software that didn't come in the box.

Wasted my money, August 29, 2007
By cytokine (Pearland, TX United States)
Installation was quick but signal range is extemely poor. Unless you want to work in the same room or floor the signal will be single to two bars max. I am also losing internet signal every 30 minutes or so. Now I have purchased belkin from circuit city with two antenas (forgot the model #) and things are perfect.
