I bought the DI-624 router as an upgrade from my old DI-514. After more than six months of use, I've decided to retire it and bring back my old, slower router which had never given me a bit of trouble. The DI-624 was constantly losing internet connectivity and required lots of resetting maintenance.

This is a solid, dependable WiFi router. I found the instructions to set up a password were nonexistent and the web interface was not all that user-friendly, but fortunately phone help resolved it. I wish mine had as good a range as others here, but so many factors influence that, I can't fault d-link. I did get an antenna booster, the D-Link ANT 24-0700, which boosts the range a lot, but not enough for me! In all, it has worked for almost two years, so I can't complain ...

This item arrived damaged and for this reason I decided to return it because I was scare to receive another damaged wireless router in case I decided to change it for another router. I really didn't like all the money I had to spent.

The router is good- ... 3btech is less than dismal on shipping I ordered with a 3day select ups ship and received over the 3 day period - they had some lame story about not shipping until the 1st full business day - .. which was two days AFTER I placed the order - they refused to do anything refund wise -

I read many reviews before purchasing the D-Link DI-624 Wireless Router and although there were negative comments, there were more for any other acceptable alternative. I'm a Mac user and found it tricky to set up, calling tech support before I got it right. But now that it's up and running, it works perfectly. My MacBook Pro gets a full signal anywhere in the house, and most of my yard which is over an acre. I downgraded it to four stars for the lack of comprehensive instructions, but their tech support was both courteous and very helpful. After a couple of months now, It still works seamlessly, allowing my portable wireless internet access and my desktop access through Ethernet connection. Based upon my experience, I recommend this for others as well.

I bought two of these routers to use in a spread-out, single-floor residential setting with a mixed Mac/PC environment. I figured I could locate them at opposite ends of the house for good and, hopefully, overlapping coverage. Not so.
Firstly, these devices will eventually drop the wifi connection and need to be restarted on a weekly basis if not more often. Secondly, they have TERRIBLE range. Using a variety of computers, I succeeded in getting no more than 30 foot range. I located the routers as high as possible and away from sources of interference, use only 5.8GHz cordless phones, and experimented with different channels. They simply don't perform well.
Their customer support is absolutely the WORST I have ever experienced, and I deal with a lot of electronics for home and for work.
After 16 months, the first of them has now completely failed. I'm replacing it with a similar device from another manufacturer.
I'd give it one star, but it does, usually, work.

I have had this product for over a year and have had absolutely no problems with it. The range is excellent in my single story 4 bedroom house (router is on one end and I pick up all the way on the other end). I did have some problems configuring it with my Sprint DSL and the DLINK customer support was the best I have ever experienced. Sprint was doing something a little different than normal on my DSL router and the tech from DLINK walked me through how to configure everything properly. I have never experienced some of the problems others complained about (reboots, bad range, etc.) so overall I am extremely pleased. I wanted to wait for at least a year to write a review to see how well it would last (it's been constantly on for the entire time).

NO PROBLEMS, March 29, 2007

Ok so I had Verison FiOs as my ISP when I was using this router and my connection was as follows; I had the FiOs cable from the wall to my router and an ethernet cable from the router to the computer. When I used a laptop with wireless internet compatability with this connection I had no problems. In fact, the laptop was downstairs on the complete opposite side of the house and the connection gave full bars and the internet was extremely fast. Now, I switched to Comcast and I have my connection like this; the cable goes into the Comcast modem and a cable connects the modem with the router and the ethernet cable connects the router to the pc. I have not yet tested the wireless connection with my new connection but I am hoping it will work just the same. So anyway, the D-Link DI-624 Wireless Cable/DSL Router, 4-Port Switch, 802.11g, 108Mbps works well as far as my uses go and I hope it will work the same with my new connection.

- The wireless range of this router in my house barely made it past 3 small rooms (about 40 ft) - This router frequently drops its wireless connection, and will sometimes reboot itself when both the wireless and wired connections are in use. - Latest firmware upgrade (v2.76) for this router locks out Xbox Live. Be prepared to open ports or use v2.75 - The interface for advanced features (firewall ports, MAC filtering) is a bit clunky.
I switched to a Linksys WRT54G. Much better range, and so far, no dropped connections.

I have both the DI-624 Router on my desktop, and the D-Link Wireless PCMCIA card for my laptop. Both work great. The installation was a breeze following the directions on the CD. Make sure that when you have your laptop or other computer search for the Router, type in the Router ID exactly as you typed it on the router's computer. It is case sensitive. Other than that, it has worked fine and I've been online for at least 3 hours every day using my laptop.

This is the single worst piece of electronic equipment I have ever encountered in my 30+ years on earth. I can barely even write this review because of fear that my internet will cut out due to my D-Link Router. I pray that when I press "Post Review" my internet won't die, and the words which I have read literally thousands of times: "This computer is not connected to the internet" will not appear again.
I bought this crappy router about a year and a half ago, and ever since then, the internet cuts out every 5-10 minutes for a period of about 30 seconds. I swear, this thing is like some sort of Chinese Torture Machine because the periods of "blackouts" are only 30 seconds long and aren't long enough to make D-Link totally unusable, but are frequent enough to be incredibly annoying and raise your blood pressure considerably. The worst part is when you are typing something important, and D-Link dies. I have probably had to re-write hundreds of long emails, and have lost a lot of information because whenever I want to send something, and D-Link's internet dies, even if I push "Back" on my browser, the information is lost forever.
I initially thought that my machine was an exception, I thought it was one out of a thousand which are defective, so I sent it back and got it replaced. When my internet continued to cut out, I thought it was a software issue or a problem with my computer. When I suspected it wasn't either of those, I went to this page and read the many negative reviews, and realized that D-Link is the worst company in the world. Anybody who buys this product after reading this review has to be totally insane.
My health has honestly and literally deteriorated as a result of this stress resulting from this machine. I hope the creator of D-Link dies an agonizing death.

Very expensive paperweight, February 12, 2007

A few weeks ago I bought this router along with the D-Link DWL-G520 network adapter and have experienced nothing but frustration with both products.
The DWL-G520 actually has poor compatibility with this router, often giving blue screens of death with an error in A3AB.sys. Google the term A3AB.sys and you'll find pages upon pages of people complaining about it. This is the last thing one would expect with two D-Link products, and is the only reason I got the card in the first place. What is quality control doing? One solution is to use Atheros's first party firmware, which led to loss of connection in my case. The other solution is to disable Super G mode, which I suppose is not a big deal except in the case of local networking, but still requires the loss of an advertised feature. The added speed for local file transfers would be nice, but better to have the products working, right?
Unfortunately, the DI-624 itself is garbage. The product intermittently disconnects, on a good day only once every few hours, but more often quite frequently. This disrupts everything from downloads to gaming. Good luck watching youtube, downloading large files, staying logged into an MMO, or playing on any gaming portal with that problem. I've tried updating firmware, playing with Super G, testing different adapters and drastically altering the settings of my network card all to no avail.
These problems are quite common, and a google search for any combination of the terms DI-624, DWL-G520, blue screen, disconnection, and garbage will help one discover that the problems have been occuring for months with no solution from D-Link itself. Some people state that some set of solutions can minimize these disconnections, but few get them solved and RMA it.
I feel frustrated that I bought this router in haste, never looking past the two spotlight reviews. Let that be a lesson to me, I suppose. A few dedicated reviewers may have had decent experiences with both products, but I feel no need to roll the dice when the much more reliable Linksys WRT54G router costs $20 dollars less. I am now happily using it with no problems. My advice is to buy the Linksys router, get the Linksys wireless adapter, and spend the money you save on something nice.

A Simple Four-Step Program for DI-624 Users, February 4, 2007

Like so many other reviewers on this site, I've had nothing but problems with this router. At first, I had to manually reset or reconfigure it once every other week or so. I made perhaps five calls to customer service, and while they always managed to solve the problem, each call took anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes, and the customer service agents always used different procedures and settings to restore functionality, leaving me helpless to figure out what was really going wrong. (I'm a fairly tech-savvy person, but this problem was beyond me.) After the router began to reset more and more often, I did some research on the product (why didn't I do this first?!) and discovered that I was far from being the only lost soul using this product. I've never seen so many frustrated reviewers for one product. And now that my router needs to be reset, literally, two or three times per day, I finally can't take anymore. I've been down to my basement and stood there for five minutes in the cold, waiting to power-cycle the %&*# thing about a hundred times too many. (As someone who works from home, I need my internet.)
So I'm starting D-Link DI-624 Anonymous, or DIA. It's a simple four-step program.
Step 1: Find a private place and let out all the anger built up inside you for purchasing and living with the DI-624. Curse like a sailor. Break things. Rant. Make threatening gestures. Whatever gets it out. This is your time.
Step 2: Start a fire. Preferably in a fire pit or fire place, but as long as it's really hot and burns what you put into it, you're okay.
Step 3: Place the DI-624 carefully into the center of the fire. Tongs may be necessary, depending on the size and heat of said fire. (You may also place into the fire about 60 - 80 rectangles cut from green paper, which will vicariously represent the money you spent on this product.)
Step 4: You're free! Celebrate by kissing loved ones, making a fancy dinner, or going out on the town.
(Step 5 -- An extra step for those feeling extra charitable: warn at least five people not to buy a D-Link 624. These can be strangers on the street for all I care. Just tell them not to do it. They'll thank you for it later, when they have a wireless router that doesn't require as much attention as a newborn baby.)

Let me start by saying that I wish I had listened to the multiple negative reviews for this product. It seemed like the majority had no problems, and a friend of mine recommended this model, so I figured I'd give it a try. Configuration was a nightmare. The install disc was useless and I ended up having to manually configure it. The settings just wouldn't take (I am a tech savvy person, by the way). Finally after rebooting my computer 3 times (and rebooting the router itself more times than that), the settings took. What should have been a 15 minute job took over an hour.
It was fine for maybe a month or two, and then I began experiencing the same problems so many people have reported on this site. The router itself randomly drops and requires a manual reboot. This is a major issue for me since the router is not always readily accessible. I mainly use this for gaming, and it drops for me at least once a day, usually at the most inopportune times. I haven't tried upgrading the firmware yet, but I will be doing so tonight since I can't stand this anymore. According to others, it helps a bit but not much. This router is a lemon, pure and simple. If you purchase this, you're rolling the dice. You may be one of the lucky ones and have no issues, but if you do, this router will drive you up a wall. Just be ready to have to reset the stupid thing at least once a day. Beware.

I bought this product 2 weeks ago... With firmware 4.0 I got disconnection every 5-15 minutes. I upgraded the firmware to 4.03 and the connection is better, but is not enough... I have a network with a wireless laptop and wireless desktop, when both are connected, the disconnection is every 10-20 minutes. I don't recommend this product.
If you search in network forums, you founded with the problem is very common.
I'm waiting for a new firmware, it could be my solution.

If you google "di-624 problems" you will see many discussions. Especially many people seem to have the problem with the router dying out of blue. For some it reboots and for some (in my case) you have to manually unplug and plug the power again to make it go. Mine was first dying every few days, but recently, it has been dying almost every hour, although the behaviour is very sporadic and unpredictable. I upgraded to the latest firmware (Oct 2006) and now at least it doesn't die but I still get "server not found" error many times while I am surfing the net. And trust me I am an electrical engineer and i tried everything. I run a Linux server and made many networks and i think I know how computer networks work although that's not my specialty per se. It appears that the problem is unacceptable quality control from the factory. While many people run the router happily, there are many who get into trouble eventually. It's just random draw. I am surprised to see such a product being made with so little quality control from the product line. If i were you i would get something else, but if you found a good deal, then buy it, have fingers crossed and keep the receipt. While it's working, I've been generally satisfied with the performance whether wired or wireless. The user interface is pretty straight forward and it's easy to setup. Nice port forwarding facility too for running those home servers. So at least two stars. However, again, I would avoid this product if possible.

I researched wireless routers for several weeks and finally settled on the DI-624. I have a Mac, so I needed to make sure the router was completely compatible, and this was. So far, I have not had one problem with signal dropping. Setup was fairly easy. The only difficult part is setting up p2p and torrent sharing programs to work with the firewall. I highly recommend the router.

I tried a lot to do the initial set up. After lot of trial, I got the router working, but again if you connect throght your LAN, the connectivity setting was lost. To make my net connection simple and working, finally I returned this product back.
