Easy to set up and works un disrupted, August 11, 2006
By Chandu (Minnesota, US)
I am using this item from 3 weeks and never had any problem, The setup is so easy. unlike other reuters where you have to switch between connections and configure before going wireless, this one doesn't require any such kind.
i had problems with the other reuters, like getting disconnected often. but this one runs undisrupted.
i have a cordless phone which works on the same frequency, but never had any problem.
the size is somewhat bigger, apart from that , it is absolutely problem free

D-Link DI-624, August 1, 2006
By Dave (PA, USA)
I'm not sure about these concerns with having to reboot the router. I've had it on non-stop - of course with a firewall and virus-scanner activated - for over a month now. I got the router upon signing up for Verizon's FIOS internet, and the speeds on it are incredible. On the wired computer I've set up, it downloads files at around 600 KBps - blazing fast for someone who's just switched from dial-up, and on a computer connected wirelessly, from about twenty feet away, it downloads files almost as fast. The signal strength is amazing, and I've never had any connection or reboot problems, even right after power outages.

Good Overall Performance, August 1, 2006
By Tyler Sunset (Chicago, IL)
Extremely easy to setup. Had full wireless capability in under 1 hour. I have recomendend this router to three of my friends and everyone has loved it so far. Usually rebates on this model so it's realatively inexpensive and worth the money.

Hardware OK, firmware is terrible, staying with Linksys, July 26, 2006
By Booboo Tutball
I have both a D-Link Di-624 and a Linksys router. The Linksys has been rock solid for three years.
The D-Link's hardware is OK, but the company has awful track record with its firmware. With the DI-624, none of the firmware above 2.50 works reliably, and every new version brings a whole host of new problems. If you are security concious and intend to secure your wireless network, I will not buy D-Link. They need to get their house in order.
Just do a search on DI-624 and firmware, you will find numerous problems with the code. Including a number of DHCP problem (your wireless device will take an extremely long time to get an address), frequent reboot (which cause the connection to drop), SSID broadcast cannot be disabled, etc... If you have wireless turned on, you cannot stream music due to the frequent reboot. Don't call your DSL or cable modem company for help, it is not their fault, it is the D-Link.
Firmware 2.5 (two years old) works reliably but without current security features, and it is no longer available on their website for download. If you buy the router new and experience the above problems (most likely you will have firmware 2.7), and cannot get a copy 2.50 firmware. Return it, exchange will not do you any good, as it is not a hardware problem.

Lots of reboots, poor firmware upgrades, you can do better, July 26, 2006
By Goldengate (San Francisco, where else?)
There's a good reason this router is so cheap. I agree with the other reviewers who have noticed that this router frequently either reboots itself or hangs and requires the user to unplug it and plug it back in. Even the firmware "upgrades" require you to completely shut the router down and wait 1 min and then plug back in, and hope it works... last upgrade I had to do this 5 times and finally it came back to life. I previously had a Linksys router and in retrospect wish I had stayed with that brand, though it wasn't perfect.
Suggest you search on google and find some recommendations for a good, stable router.

Easy to setup, Works Well, Runs Hot, July 25, 2006
By R. J. Nugent (Buffalo, NY)
I puchased the DI-624 after owning a D-Link wired router. The customer service isn't the best, but I have had very little problem with the previous router or this one. I have been using the DI-624 for about a month now. It has worked perfectly. It is easy to install as well.
The only issue I have with the router is that it runs a little hot. I'm not sure if this will cause problems down the road, but it is something worth noting.
Overall... Good product for a good price

So far so good!, July 24, 2006
By BI consultant (Dallas, TX)
I was almost returning the router for my money back because I coudn't configure my wireless until I changed the Key Type from HEX to ASCII for WEP security. Both hard wire and wireless work for me so far. I'll definitely come back for additional review if new issues arise.

BIG Pain to get working, June 27, 2006
By J. Brune (Baltimore, MD USA)
I have Comcast cable, with a Comcast provided Motorola Surfboard cable modem. I'm trying to connect a PC, wired, and two laptops, wirelessly. I run through the little wizard app that comes with the router, but... it doesn't work. So, I call customer service, speak to people with heavy accents, they have me disable DHCP, WEP, change some arcane settings, and set up static IP's on my laptops. Honestly, static IP's!
So, now I am connected from my laptop at anywhere from 56 to 1.0 Mbps. And I'm all of about 0.5 meters away from the router. Oh, and you have to press the reset button about 15 times before it actually works.
Do yourself a favor and STAY AWAY from this router.

DI-624 drops WIRED connections, June 18, 2006
By Antigen (USA)
Used with Windows XP media center ed. Worked fine for 3 months and then started dropping connections every 1/2 hour. And I was WIRED, not wireless. Tech support was worst I have ever experienced.

Connection Problems - cannot use all features, June 2, 2006
By Sanket Gulati
I have had this router for over a year. It worked well for the most part. But every once in a while I got problems with connection, for which I had to call customer support.
Now suddenly it has become a big pain ... Both wired and wireless connections drop every 10 mins because router reboots itself. I have made over a dozen calls to tech support, but the problem has remained.
The other thing is that D link tech support always tells you to go with basic 802.11b config with no encryption ( the most they would let me do was WEP, and always turned down WPA ). So even though this router has a lot of cool features ( super G, WPA, gaming mode etc. etc. ) , you are not allowed to use any of them. That is because if you try and it does not work, tech support will always tell you to turn all of them off. Thus all I have is a powerful router being used as basic 802.11b.

Score: D-Link 7, Netgear 0, May 26, 2006
By Triumph Freak (Huber Heights, OH United States)
I'm successfully using three DI-624s, 3 DWL-G650s, the five port gigabit switch. All are working extremely well. Two of the DI-624s have been working constantly for months with no resets. I tried one Netgear 624 router and could not get it to work after 2 days. The D-link took 5 minutes.

Stay away!!!, May 18, 2006
By Patrick Warsalla (Pacific Northwest)
I had a D-Link DI-614 which as far as I can tell bit the dust. I am on Qwest DSL MSN Premium. So I went and got the DI-624. First thing was put the CD in, well it kept telling me that my modem was a router (it is but I am hesitant about Actiontec wireless products until I get more info on them). After numerous phone calls I found out I had to change my Modems IP, yet no one could really tell me how to do this, not D-Link, not Qwest, and Actiontec wanted $25 for a tech call. I finally figured it out and got it all running. Since then all I have had is dropped signals, I have to reboot, or reset everything every 2 days. I know it is not my modem, since connecting that directly to my computer, I have had no problems for 3 days, as soon as I put the D-link in the loop, BAM, wifes computer can't get online, son's computer can't get online, I can't get online. Terrible product, tech support is someone you can't understand and has no experience. Stay away from this like the plague, it will only cause you heartaches.

No good, May 17, 2006
By Ben (New York City)
Constant disconnects with my Intel Pro 2200BG for no good reason. Works fine on default settings with no security enabled. Once I enable WAP + SSID broadcast off the router starts disconnecting roughly 3-5 times per hour. Problem can be recreated everytime when I reset the modem and enable WAP again. Uprading to latest firmware didnt help either. Go with Linksys instead.

Good, router if you do not need RDP, May 11, 2006
By Shaimaa (Jacksonville, FLORIDA United States)
This router has been working perfectly until I needed to vpn and RDP into my office desktop. I cannot use Remote Desktop Connection behind this router I followed the manufacturer instructions to open the RDP port, but that didn't work. I found the same complain about this router on a number of mailing lists. None of the users were able to use RDP behind this router. So I'm going to buy a Linksys router to be able to connect to my office.

Reliable workhorse performer, May 8, 2006
By Once a geek, ... (Saunderstown, RI, United States)
I have been running this unit for a couple of years, and have installed several of them at friends' houses without a hitch. This unit has always been reliable and easy to install for me. It offers WEP and WPA encryption, is easy to manage, and has simply worked without problems. I sometimes use D-Link's wireless range extenders for big houses, including mine. In general, I have had very good luck with D-Link products, and think of the DI-624 as a reliable workhorse.

Great, reliable router, April 25, 2006
By Chris Harrison (Augusta, GA USA)
I've used my DI-624 for nearly two years without incident. I've used other routers, including a couple by LinkSys and a 1st Gen Apple AirPort, and neither worked as well as the DI-624 has.
* It works great with BellSouth DSL. * I have not experienced any major connectivity issues with it. * It's easy to setup. * It has great range (100+ ft)
I've read a number of the reviews on here where people have had bad luck with this product, and I can only hope that they were anomalies. I have nothing but praise for this router.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS, April 24, 2006
By NERD
This product does NOT work as advertised. Dropped signal. Lost IP address. Won't save a new password. Bad firmware updates. Super G? No way. Go with a known brand - LinkSys or anything else. 108Mbps??? Not even close. In fact the last Firmware update states that they had to SHUT OFF several features because they didn't meet 802.11g standards.
Big waste of $$$$$$$
