Works great. Easy intall, March 4, 2008
By Joe Davis (Lamar,, MO USA)
This thing worked great. Cable is long enough so you can place it on top of computer or on a shelf for better reception. Super easy to setup.

Poor signal strength and poor quality overall, February 5, 2008
By Bill
This adapter has been my worst computer peripheral purchase, ever. I purchased it about 7 months ago and it has been nothing but unreliable from the start.

Out of the box, it would not work at all with the built-in Wireless Connections tool built into XP. While not a big deal, it still made me wonder about the product.

After installing the proprietary DWL-G120 Utility program, it took me what seemed like forever to find a decent spot to get any type of a usable signal. I even tried sitting it right by a laptop of mine that, in the same location, gets an "Excellent" signal from my wireless router.

Once I found one of the only places in my office where I could get a "Good" signal, I found out that the signal only lasts for a little while. The network card would drop to 20%, and then back up to 50-60% periodically the whole time my PC was up. I never saw a signal any higher than 60 or 65% in the DWL-G120 utility.

When it would connect to my wireless router, it had decent transfer speed, but it was so inconsistent that I would periodically have to drag out my 30' cable and connect to the wired port in my router when having to move more than a few files.

Finally, after the signal kept dropping for longer periods, the adapter simply stopped working, alternating between attempting to connect to my network and scanning for a wireless network. I finally just tossed it in the trash.

I would not recommend this to anyone looking for a reliable wireless adapter.

Not Vista Compatible, November 7, 2007
By Pangster
This item is excellent overall if you have XP.

However, it is NOT Vista compatible. I found a driver off the D-Link Taiwanese website that got the driver to work, but it still produced annoying errors and the device does not consistently perform in Vista.

It is not likely that D-Link will produce a Vista-compatible driver, since this product has been discontinued.

Do not buy this if you have Vista or are thinking about getting Vista.

Not compatible and not returnable, August 8, 2007
By jk47 (Oakland, CA)
After purchasing this item I discovered it was not compatible with the WPA encryption on my wireless network. But since I had opened the box, the seller refused to accept a return. Make sure you do your research and confirm that this adapter will work for you.

    A real bargain, June 8, 2007
By D. Jackson (San Jose, CA USA)
Sensitivity is great. This USB 802.11g adapter is regularly able to pick up 4 to 6 times as many nearby APs as any of my PCMCIA based WLAN adapters, and in 3 weeks has never dropped my link, to my knowlege. With Windows in control of it there are almost no config options available. But so far I find no fine tuning needed. The worst thing I can say about this adapter is that it is a little too small and light--the normal springyness of the USB cable makes it unlikely to sit flat on any surface without velcro, and difficult to "aim". But for the trivial price, it's a real bargain.

Never Lets Me Down, May 15, 2007
By 24 Fan (Ohio)
I have an company computer that I use to connect to my employer's VPN. I had been using a Netgear USB wireless adapter, but it would regurlarly dosconnect me from the VPN, and I would have to log on again. I don't know why it did this, but it was a pain. The Netgear adapter would also get very hot, and I would have to disconnect it from the computer. My D-Link G120 never knocks me off the VPN. It's great! I work in an upstairs bedroom, and my cable modem and wireless connection are downstairs and 40 feet away, and the G120 reception is fine. I've learned my lesson and will stay with D-Link.

    Not a good product, May 13, 2007
By techie (VA USA)
This wireless adapter didn't have good signal strength at 25' though I have a new router. Replaced this adapter with a TrendNet adapter (TEW424UB) and getting full strength all the time.

Used with TIVO, May 9, 2007
By TS (Seattle, WA United States)
I've had some problems getting a wireless adapter that works with my older TIVO (series 1?). This one in the 802.11b version worked...but then I gave it to a friend. This 802.11g version also works fine.

    D-LINK ADAPTER, May 7, 2007
By Robert J. Holland Sr. (Rockport TX)
while it is fast, it is flakey. It doesn't like some of my USB ports. It works well with a powered USB port, but works sometimes with normal USB ports. It gets hot and quits in the middle of a long download when not using auxillary power. I have not rec'd the promised rebate either.

    I expected better connectivity, May 2, 2007
By Chris Lang (Wisconsin, USA)
This offers poor connectivity considering the bulkiness of the install (separate cable to connect and flip up design). I expected an improvement in signal strength from my tiny USB direct plugin type. I was wrong. I am typically happy with other D-link offerings but this one's a dude.

Plus, I have more advanced encryption on my cheapo USB adapter. This is limited to WEP.

    super duper........slow....slow, April 3, 2007
By EL PERRON (USA)
This Adapter is very compact but very slow. Oh well. No more D-Stink products for me.

not so good buy, March 29, 2007
By wise guy (Roseville, CA USA)
not worth it ... spend a little more and get the better one ... shows signal as weak when just 20 ft distance from wireless router .... not too much resistance in between either ... i wish i would have spent 10$ more and get linksys

this is a great product, March 28, 2007
By Donna (Thornwood, NY USA)
This product was the only one that really worked.
I now have two in my house and its great.
this is the second one I purchased and this ones price can't be beat.
I paid much more for the first.

Works well, but range isn't super strong, and yeah - forget about TIVO, March 24, 2007
By Memetic Engineer (Conifer, CO USA)
This works fine on my desktop computer. I get a "Low" signal strength that averages 24kbps with my wireless router about 40 feet away thru two walls - one of which is brick. Sitting next to it is my MacBook which apparently gets nearly a full strength signal. It may not be fair to compare these two for rating, however it is a sort of "benchmark".

And yeah, i tried it on my TIVO, and it detected it properly and got thru most of the setup and then was unable to get an IP from the DHCP. I tried using a static IP and it still didn't work.

I think it is well worth the price for standard computer use.

    D-Link DWL-G120 Wireless USB Adapter, 802.11g, 54Mbps, March 19, 2007
By P. Gregor
Great product and price. Easy installation and communication with router. Nice long USB cord.

Easy Setup, works great, March 10, 2007
By Gadget Buyer (Bay Area, CA United States)
Easy to setup, worked great. At a local car dealer service waiting area, with my old PCMCIA Wireless B card, I'd only pickup their signal very weakly. With this, I picked up five wireless signals from the nearby dealers.

Goood for Price, March 9, 2007
By S. Lee
When it is used highly every day, there is a disconnection almost every other day, however speed is not bad for this price.

D-Link unwilling to replace defective product, February 16, 2007
By M. Carter (Portland, Oregon USA)
When first installed it worked fine. With time it would quit working after 15 minutes or so. Time that it would work got shorter and shorter. Each time the device would only work after complete cool down, not reboot. Multiple calls to D-Link support. They had me down load and install the same driver over again, several times. Then format my hard disk and re-install windows, then do a low level hard disk format (SCSI) and reformat and install. Hours on hold, sent to level two support. At last they told me to find someone willing to have it installed thier computer. D-Link has assigned blame to every possible source except their device. All other USB devices work. All other computers work with the wireless router, Mac and windows. (I cannot install this device on my work windows computer as I do not have admin rights). D-Link will keep you on hold for hours, talk to you for hours, have you waste dozens of hours reloading software, but won't replace a defective $30 device. If you get a D-Link, and it works great. If it does not, throw it away and get something else. Don't waste you time with their "support".

Problems with TiVo, February 1, 2007
By Megatron (Tacoma, WA)
I have an older series 2 TiVo that has been working great with a Linksys WUSB12 for a couple years. I just installed the D-Link DWL-G120 adapter and it installed just fine. There were no problems. It connects to the TiVo service with no errors. Then I tried to transfer a recorded program to my PC. The transfer rate is a slow 2 Mbps. The signal quality is excellent. (It's only 15 ft distance) This is half the speed of the WUSB12 B adapter. I was hoping for greater speed using the D-link G adapter. However, the real problem is disturbing. When I start the transfer it causes the TiVo to restart. That's right. The TiVo restarts over and over. It begins to slowly transfer the file and restarts the TiVo within a few minutes. After many tries, I put the Linksys WUSB12 back in and all is normal.

    D-Link DWL-G120 worked PERFECTLY w/my Series 2 DT TiVo, January 25, 2007
By L. B. Wooten (Charlotte, NC, USA)
Perhaps the detractors of the D-Link DWL-G120 had a faulty unit, or something else in their home network was faulty, b/c this little dealie worked PERFECTLY for my Series 2 dual-tuner TiVo. Now, my "home network" doesn't really have the right to be called a "network", and is far from sophisticated... I have a low-end $30 Belkin wireless router and a Westell modem provided by my phone company for my "DSL Lite" connection. I had ABSOLUTELY no problems setting up this wireless adapter via the TiVo on-screen guide, and I even have security set up (I input my network key) b/c I live in a condo complex. Don't spend $60 on the TiVo-branded wireless adapter--this one works just fine!
