Very Low Range, September 14, 2006
By Jester (Grand Haven, Mi USA)
Bought with my D-Link wireless router, range was terrible. Replaced with D-Link PCMCIA and had no issues. wouldn't recommend.

WPA does not work, September 10, 2006
By G. Timuss (Silicon Valley, CA USA)
I have a DI-624 router from D-Link. Needed a WPA capable device for my Windows 2000 PC, so bought a DWL-G122 on the presumption that D-Link would have done interop tests on their own products.
Nope: just got off the phone with D-Link tech support. Took 2 minutes for him to authorize a product return. He refused to acknowledge that is is broken, but stated that WPA support is "unstable" with the DWL-G122.

Not suitable for Tivo use, July 29, 2006
By Chip Gandy
Despite a search for "tivo usb" and this one coming back, this adapter will not work with tivo. this is te b1 hardware revision which is not compatible with any of the tivo units. there's nothing online here or elsewhere that shows what version the hardware is so if you want it for tivo, stear clear.

Good choice for Linux users!, July 2, 2006
By floydian (PTown)
This is a great choice on USB Wireless for Linux 2.6 users.
Got the driver here: (2570 version) -- http://rt2x00.serialmonkey.com/wiki/index.php/Downloads
Installed driver, config'd with iwconfig, ran dhclient and success!
I was on the internet in a matter of 15 minutes. Most of that time was spent downloading and burning the drivers to disk on my other computer so I could get them on this machine.
I am running MythTV and this device allowed me to place my shuttle box in a very cramped place that had no chance of a physical network cable.
Wireless PCI was not an option as my box only has one PCI slot and that was used for my video capture card. USB Wireless seemed sketchy to me but thanks to open source projects, a solution was already engineered for me.
This is why Linux will prevail as the OS of choice. I am running a completely *legal* open source TiVo and not paying a dime for service. Does your TiVo have a 400Gb HD? Hardware like this DLINK worked right out of the box, therefore there is no reason not to get this if you were considering this for your Linux environment.
Reception is excellent and mine came with a nice cradle that keeps it away from the computer for clear reception.
Configuration was easy and seemless using the Linux tools built in to the OS. WEP works too. Any configuration windows could do, Linux could do as well.
I highly recommend this product.

More aggravation, May 13, 2006
By tempted (Falconer, NY)
I have set up several networks in my home wired and unwired as technology has advanced but Ill be damned if I could get this to work. A waste of $45 dollars and ALOT of time. (more than I care to mention!) Ok..over 2 days! go buy something else!

Good product, works with USB 1.1, April 23, 2006
By J. Zhu
Just got the Adapter and spent one hour set it up. Set up was easy, but the utility software is not great. The desktop shortcut does not work, you have to click the link status symbol on the taskbar to bring up the utility window. Other than that, it worked very well and found the router no problem. It was connected to a USB 1.1 port on a 5 year old computer and it does not run hot/burning hot even after 2 hours of use.
I am very happy with this adapter so far, but if it died within a year, I may change my mind.

Setup hints, April 14, 2006
By Jonathan Aquino (Victoria, BC Canada)
Finally got this thing working after 3 hours of fighting it. Two tips:
* try a different USB port. I wasn't getting the "New Hardware Found" like the manual said, until I tried a different port
* try using the Windows configuration utility instead of the D-Link configuration utility. It just works. I couldn't get it to connect to my WPA-PSK router otherwise. So keep the "Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings" checkbox checked.
Only 3 stars because it wasn't plug-and-play - it was plug-and-fight-for-3-hours-then-play.

Not stable, April 1, 2006
By William R. Oliveira
If possible prefer an internal card than this USB external adapter since it is not stable, dropping a lot.

What's all the fuss??, February 27, 2006
By Robert M. Greene (Rockville Centre, NY)
I set up the D-Link DWL-G122 on my daughter's computer about 4 weeks ago and it is working fine. While I had some questions setting up the adapter, I called their tech support and they were most helpful. I must admit though, Ihad alot of concerns about buying this product after reading other people's reviews but I think the problem is that setting up these devices isn't always so easy and most of us are novices. If one setting is not correct, the thing won't work properly and it can be very frustrating. I've been so pleased with the product that I just bought another one. Who knows, if it dies within the next year I'll have a totally different opinion.

Does not necessarily work on a mac, February 27, 2006
By jordan314
I bought this because the first reviewer said it 'works great on a mac'. I read the macosxhint that they mentioned and then went ahead and bought it. It turns out you need specifically a revision B DWL-G122, which uses the ralink chipset. I bought a rev. A2 version, and revisions A1 and A2 both use an Intersil Prism chipset, which as far as I've been able to find, is NOT compatible with a mac. As disappointing as this is, it does work on my PC so I'll keep it and look for an airport card for my mac. Do not buy the A1 or A2 version of this product if you want it to work with your mac!

avoid under XP Media Center 2005; expect problems if you use Switch Users, February 20, 2006
By Ruth in NM
Purchased two months ago. Adapter connects and works fine with my Netgear 802.11b AP. Cradle is a nice feature. But the driver is not fully compatible with XP Media Center 2005; no warnings from D-Link about this anywhere but this is what D-Link support will tell you when you report problems with it. Using D-Link's utility for configuration caused connection to go flaky when doing Switch Users; had to use XP's wireless management features (I have seen others comment on this problem under regular XP as well). Poor installation procedures configured software to start up both as a service and as a boot-time process; this caused conflicts that meant an administrator account had to log on first, and stay logged on, or the connection would be flaky. After disabling the service-side startup, it now works fine for all accounts - no thanks to D-Link support, who couldn't even manage to fix a problem where the "latest driver" provided for it on their Web site was 16 months older than the release it claimed to be. I reported that three times via email and nothing was done.

Stay away from this piece of crap!, February 1, 2006
By Dr. Thomas Kaeding
Stay away from this piece of crap!
I bought this item because, after rebates, it would have been the least expensive of its kind. I say WOULD HAVE BEEN, but the manufacturer lost the UPC code that I sent it, and denied my rebate. They said they would accept a copy of it, but still I wait.
Meanwhile, this item has one of two possible chipsets in it. The guy at the store said it had the Intersil Prism chip, for which my driver works well. No, it actually had the Ralink RT2570. So I installed the driver from Ralink, and what a disaster. My linux box has never been so unstable. The internet link through this D-Link adapter would crash often (about every 10 minutes), and not restart unless I reloaded the driver. And that would crash the whole system 30 percent of the time.
I replaced this item with a Netgear WG111 v2, and it works so much better. I have to use the WinXP driver, and it has some stability problems, but stays connected for days.
While my past experiences are not necessarily an indication of your future experience, why take the chance?

Simple and always works, January 28, 2006
By Marcos Flores (Memphis, TN USA)
I bought two of these to set up a wireless network at my sister's apartment. It was super easy to setup and they haven't had any problems at all. They've had them for about 6 months, and I haven't had any calls asking me to come fix anything. This is a great value!

Cable is the best, December 21, 2005
By Lim Say Pow
I have tried 3 different USB adapters and each did not last more than 4 months. At last I have to use cable. It is better to use cable - cost effective and no anguish.

Choppy Signal. Drops Connection. Freezes Computer, December 12, 2005
By Screwy Hippy (San Jose, CA United States)
I set this thing up and it worked just fine. I'm very close to my LINKSYS wireless router and the damn thing just keeps on losing its signal. i dont knwo whether this is a OS problem or the hardware inside by e-Machine. The most aweful thing happens with the wireless card drops the signal and freezes my OS and I have to end up restarting my system. what the hell kind of crap is that for 50 bucks? When the device works, it works jsut fine, but beware of how to place of your computer so the connection is good enough and the signals dont drop. Make sure you follow the instructions for installation very carefully. I gave it a 3 stars because it's a lot better than pulling a freakin cable across my room, which works flawlessly, but what good is better technology when it's only good 25% of time ?

Didn't last a year, November 27, 2005
By Hank Kennett, Jr. (Chicago)
Setup was easy, and the product worked well while it lasted. Its lifespan, though, was shorter than I would have liked. After about 9 months, its performance began to deteriorate, and it was completely dead within a year.

Excellent product with 2 negatives, October 24, 2005
By Dhaval Parikh
The D-link works perfectly fine, and I have no issues with its reliability. I always have gotten a signal, and it has not failed yet. The 2 negatives I have are: 1. It is rather bulky, and it gets in the way when I am moving my laptop. 2. It get really hot, like burning hot, even after 1 or 2 hours.
