Not very stable product, August 31, 2004
By pplppp
I bought this card because of its low price (compared to linksys) and installed an old PC running Win98 SE. My internet connection is plugged into my laptop that has a linksys 54G PC card and the old PC connects to my laptop via the D-link card (ah-hoc network). The setup has was relatively easy and I didn't encounter any problem.
However I would run into serious problems occassionally on my old pc trying to connect. One time the Win98 started up but couldn't detect the D-link card, I had to remove the card and put it back in to resolve the problem. Then another day for some strange reason the link is very slow for now apparant reason.
So conclusion: if you're an expert in computers and you don't want to spend too much money on a 802.11g pci card for a secondary pc then this is the card for you, cause you might need to troubleshoot once in a while why something wrong happened and you can't get on the internet.

Just need another driver, people, August 28, 2004

I saw that this card was getting very poor reviews, so I had to post my experience with the G510. Yes, it did drop connections quite frequently and it's a little unnerving that the drivers have not been updated at all. BUT you just have to do a quick Google search (the world needs more of them) to find that the ASUS driver - same chipset and all - is tried, tested and true in XP and will improve the signals. I just installed it and now the card works just fine. Go here: http://www.asus.com/support/downloa...delName=WL-138g. Then perhaps your minds will change about this card.

Garbage with Arrogant Tech Support - AVOID!, August 22, 2004
By S Sendlein (Connecticut, USA)
I bought one of these instead of what I normally buy (Linksys) because of a sale price. What a mistake. XP on my Abit BE6-II would not recognize that the card was present. I followed the installation instructions to the letter and everything looked fine up to the point where the driver popped up a message in the systray stating that it could not find the card. When I called D-link tech support they told me "Sir, you must not have installed the driver." When I told them that, not only had I installed it as instructed (and it appeared to install fine), that the driver itself was telling me that there was no card present. At that point they gave me a case number and told me to try again and call back if I still had problems. Well, recognizing that, while I did pay meticulous attention to the instructions (and build my own computers so I am not exactly a newb), stuff happens and I could have made a mistake. So I did try again and with the same result. But I won't be calling again. This piece of crap reinforces everyting negative I have ever heard about D-link and it is being exchanged as quick as I can for a Linksys. Never again.

I installed this product into my Dell and Reception and speed goes up and down. This product is not stable. I am going to return it and get a linksys.

    awful - don't waste your time., July 18, 2004

thought i'd suggest this to a friend to try. Complete waste of time. Intermittent setup problems with win xp, had to disable then enable all the time. XP configuration would only intermittently show out our home network that would always show up on netstumbler, even after disabling all security features.

I'm pretty good with computers, and can build a computer from parts. So despite some negative reviews, I was wondering how bad could this be? Well, it's going back in exchange for a linksys.

This product is horrible. It took three calls to tech support to get it "working". It drops the connection all the time even when the signal is very strong. I am using a D-Link DI-624 router. I will be removing this card and returning it today.

Please save yourself a lot of wasted time. Go with a different brand. This card is very bad. It randomly rebooted my machine while I am surfing the internet. I reinstalled my old 802.11b card, no more unwanted reboot.

I have problems keeping connections. Sometimes I am connected but no data flows. Sometimes I stay connected for a very long time, sometimes not. Range from router has nothing to do with it, I had the same problems three feet from my router.

Very puzzling, unreliable performance. I plan on returning the item.

This card could not hold a connection more than 5 minutes and then I had to battle to get it to reconnect. I am 5 feet from my wireless router that works fine with other wireless device. It also freezed my machine sometimes. After two calls to techsupport, the recommended that I return the unit, which is what I will do.

Don't waste your time.

    loses connection, June 15, 2004
By seattleparent (Seattle)
Very disappointing. Doesn't like to talk to our D-link wireless router; drops the connection frequently and seems unable to pick it back up. Our older wireless-b D-link card performs much better. Since it can perform at times, I suspect it's a software or firmware problem.
