best product, November 18, 2007
By computer geek
This product is amazing! It is really fast. Worth the price. I have tried many other products for internet connectivity but their quality is really cheap (USB adapters, ...) They started to work really fast in the beginning but then eventually over the period of a month, the internet connectivity became slow. One of the USB adapter I had even broke apart. I have this product from a while, and the internet connectivity never slowed down. The internet connectivity with this adapter is way faster than the laptop built in cards. This product is worth its price and is very useful!

shipment is quick and product is fairly good. However, it looks like the wireless signal range does not match the description in the package.

Does the job, December 9, 2006
By Neil Fairall (Massachusetts)
Unlike other reviewers, I have never had a problem using this card and it has worked fine for me. The only thing I did have to do was pair it with a mimo router to get the best functionality out of it - I use an original Belkin pre-n router (one of the earlier pre-n) designs and it works very well throughout my home. With a standard Dlink 802.11G router signal to noise was atrocious.
Points to note:
1. I am in the IT industry and able to troubleshoot things that give less technical folks problems - pardon the lack of modesty. All due respect to the other reviewers but wireless isn't as simple as "plug them in and go" yet. 2. Never had a problem installing the drivers. In case anybody is interested, Windows Vista detects it as a standard Atheros Wireless card and it is up and running as soon as you plug it in. 2. Power consumption and processor utilization are not concerns for me so I haven't studied them. I use the card with a ThinkPad T40 and haven't noticed any performance problems, or problems with power consumption.

Overall good product, December 1, 2006
By Jersey (new york, ny USA)
I had used this cardbus adapter for over 3 weeks and so far, its been working great. I do not experience drop signals which I get frequently with my old USB adapter. The reason I give only 4 stars is because I have problem installing the driver on my DELL laptop computer. After checking for support documentation on website and numerous retries, I called their 'offshore support' who guide me in adjusting the computer system setting manually to get it to work. The support guy just breeze through a script, and if you are a novice, you will have problem following him as he is not detailed on the instruction. I wish they had put the troubleshooting guide on their website and save me some time.

Pienso que el problema que tienen otros, es que no siguen las instrucciones debidas, yo no he tenido ningn problema y trabaja a las mil maravillas.

Causes high CPU utilization, May 27, 2006
By F. Linton
According to SysInternal's Process Explorer, both HWI (hardware interrupts) and DPC (deferred procedure calls) tend to run to 3%-40% each while this card is installed; both drop to under 1% once it's removed. Both remain under 1% while using another manufacturer's (USB-based) 802.11/b WiFi adapter. I'm given to understand that such high HWI and DPC rates often indicate buggy drivers, but I've found no useful driver update info on D-Link's web site, last I looked. That other /b adapter, BTW, gives better throughput than this /b/g card of D-Link's.

Not worth the trouble, May 12, 2006
By doubleak (Denver, CO)
This card died on me after about a year of use. My laptop will detect the card, but it won't power up. My reaction? Good Riddance! I now have an excuse to get a different card.
As others have stated, this card uses its own drivers, and they don't work well. Everytime I woke my laptop from suspend mode, the card would fail to reconnect to the network, forcing me to remove and reinsert the card, then do a 'repair' of my connection. Huge hassle.
It looks like you get what you pay for with these cards, so stay away from the cheap ones!!

PIECE OF JUNK!!!!!, April 6, 2006
By Jeremy (New Hampshire)
Does not consistently work! I have a toshiba a15 (Win XP Pro) and sometimes this works, but usually it doesn't. Lately, it either works perfectly or it gives me a blue screen error and restarts the computer. It used to have problems where i would restart the computer and it would say card not found, which forced me to reload the driver. But lately it's just been giving me a blue screen. I have used PCMCIA cards before and never once had any issues. D-Link needs to support their faulty product with a new driver! Bad customer service! I WILL NEVER BUY A D-LINK PRODUCT AGAIN!!!

Almost flawless, and a good deal, March 19, 2006
By Hosehead (So. California, USA)
I've had this card for about 6 months now. I have the "C" version, and have been running driver 3.01. I'm running XP Home on a Gateway laptop. I found the installation of the card straightforward when I followed the directions. I've had no problems (up until now) and I use the D-link sotware/configurator and the D-link DI-534 router (I got the "Starter Kit" DWL-923). It all seems fine. The only problem was lately I've found a problem where it is responsible for my CPU usage going over 50%. You can see a description here: http://www.computergripes.com/dlink.wifi.g.card.html
Anyways I tried the mentioned fix (disabling Reg.exe on startup) and it worked only about halfway - my CPU usage went down to about 15%-30%. Then I uninstalled all D-link related software on my machine and re-installed using the new driver (3.05). I'm back to using the D-link software/configurator, and Airplus.exe starts on startup. But no Reg.exe is no longer a running process and my CPU usage is normal (~5% at idle). It seems to have worked!
So up until now I would have given this product 5 stars for it's ease of use and reliability (no drops, slow downs, etc.) but because of this problem I went down to average (with wireless it seems that you've got to expect SOME problems!).

this card sucks, March 3, 2006
By guglhupf2 (CUPERTINO, CA United States)
I tend to break my wireless cards for my laptop. I had CISCO's, BELKINS, NETEGARS and they all worked flawlessly.
With the D-Link the software will not even install on my WINDOWS XP laptop. When you double click it it just won't come up or comes up for a second only. I got it to work by using the native WINDOWS drivers for about 15 minutes...then it repeatedly caused WINDOWS blue screens....
I talked to Tech Support but as with all network companies you get some junior person who follows a script...no help there at all though the phone was answered quickly.
I have used many network vendors and D-Link consistently dissapoints me ( I have a wireless printserver that is bad too ). This was the second and last time I go for the cheap price. They just have bad products and if you add shipping and return fees and all the headache you can buy a better product....

Horrible customer service, February 27, 2006
By S. Patil (NJ USA)
I was trying to connect this adaptor to my laptop almost for 3 days. I was calling D-LINK'S customer service all the time I was kept on hold for more than one hour, & after that they did not give me any solution to fix the problem.

Stay away, February 15, 2006
By David M. Kean (Australia)
Like other reviewers, I've had nothing but trouble with the D1 revision of this card. Constantly this card would refuse to connect to my wireless network, while other systems with cards from different manufacturers had no issues. The installer is terrible and installs three different programs in Add/Remove Programs. The software that comes the card increases boot time significantly and there is no easy way to remove the icon from the system tray. On the upside, after attempting to download the latest drivers, I ended up downloading the drivers for the C1 revision (as they don't have the D1 listed) and these surprisingly worked alot better. Go figure.

DO - NOT - BUY!, December 13, 2005
By Chekhov
Quite honestly, this is the worst product I have ever purchased. It has NEVER worked consistently, and when it does work, it is still EXTREMELY slow. Most of the time, I just attach my laptop to an ethernet cable because using this is such an awful experience. When you click on a link, you will sometimes have to wait over a minute just to get it to start transferring data. I probably wait about 10 seconds ON AVERAGE. Now that might not seem like a lot to you, but think of how many links you actually click while you are browsing the internet, and how terrible it must be to use this adapter. And by the way, my computer is *ten feet* away from the router (it is in room next to mine). So if you are looking to buy this product, I hope that my advice is very clear: DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. DO NOT BUY D-LINK. My roommate has a LINKSYS adapter for his pc that works like a charm. Honestly, spend the few extra dollars because dealing with this thing has been a nightmare.
Oh and if you are wondering why I don't go buy another adapter instead of this one... my roommate, in all his benevolence, promised to buy me a new one for Christmas. Unfortunately, this means that I have to wait until Christmas to get a functional internet connection. Well, all I can say is that I am VERY MUCH LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS HOLDIDAY SEASON!

Works good, but needs a lot of tweaking, September 8, 2005
By Gene Cloner (St Louis)
I agree with several other reviews here that the card is bad. But, if you had bought it and don't want to spend money returnig it, some tweaking would make it work good! A good product should be real plug and play but this is not!!
I bought it as a router and pc card (both D-link 802.11g) set to use at home. I have my desktop connected by cable to the router and my laptop connecting wirelessly. Installation was a snap for both the router and the card and they worked fine and I was able to browse and share files between both the computers - all at good speed.
Trouble started when I went to work with my laptop or when I used laptop on its battery. The card took a long time to recognize the network and the computer kept saying 'cound not connect to network drives'.
The other problem was that my battery drained very fast. So fast to the extent that some times just booting up and reading my emails will already have used up 75% battery!!
Minor trouble; the D-link utility does the exact samething that Windows XP wireless connection manager does. However, there is no (easy) way to disable the utility from loading. Even if you use windows XP to configure wireless connections, the D-link utility sits there and does nothing.
Solutions: 1. You can prevent the D-link utility from loading and this improves performance - makes connections quicker actually. Click Start..Run.. ; Type 'msconfig' and click OK. In the window that appears click the 'Startup' tab; You will see a long list of programs that are enabled at start up. Uncheck 'airplus.exe' and 'reg.exe' both of which run from the D-link installation directory.
2. To conserve battery, Right click the wireless connection icon on the tray; click status... click Properties... Click 'configure' right next to the D-link airplus g card's name. Go to the advanced tab and choose 'powersavemode' from the list..choose property 'normal' or 'maximum' to save your battery.
These two actions make a card actually work better than using D-link's utility (Do all tweaking at your own risk! It worked for me, but, cannot guarantee it'll work for you w/o causing any trouble). Good luck!!

useful, August 12, 2005
By claudio (Bethesda, MD, USA)
I think the wireless cardbus is very useful to go around and connect to internet without plug and I like not to need cable internet or something like that, this is the reason why I decide to buy it.
