Still cannot get it to work., February 29, 2008
By D. Ray (Washington, DC)
Very nice looking device in a sleek kit. Three modes of opperation. I spent two hours with it and could not get it to connect. I will contact tech support when I have some time.

Spectacular wireless client!, February 28, 2008
By Shawn (Cincinnati, OH)
This device has exceeded my expectation. My wireless router is on one side of the house (and the second floor) while this little sucker is on the other side of the house (on the first floor) and the signal is strong and reliable. That has not been the case with some other devices I've used (in particular, a certain USB wireless adapter that I have). I bought the D-Link pocket router/AP to be used as a wired-to-wireless bridge (client mode) for my Xbox360 as I was bound and determined not to pay $100 for Microsofts Xbox-specific USB wireless adapter. For less that $50, the D-Link device has been just what I was looking for. I hooked it up to my PC long enough to configure the security settings, the plugged it into the Xbox's RJ45 jack and everything is running smoothly. I haven't messed with it as a router or AP, but did check out the settings. This is a surprisingly full-featured product considering its minute package. Nicely done, D-Link!

The D-Link pocket router works as advertised. It is lightweight, simple to use and is my primary router now.

Pocket Router unreliable, November 22, 2007
By B. Haughton (Atlanta GA)
I got the Pocket Router and tried it both at home for a week and on a business trip for a week. I found that you need to read the fine print - it works well for surfing when the computer and the pocket router are in the same room, but it is unreliable when a wall is placed between the router and the device using the router. During set up, I set the encryption to WPA2 and had issues until I downloaded the WPA2 patch from MSFT. After that it appeared to work well for surfing, but I discovered that it was not good for any sustained traffic - such as VOIP or an enterprise VPN.

This item didn't work. We sent it back and purchased a desktop router. Had no problem getting refund. Good service.

Excelent for travelling, November 17, 2007

    Mostly good, November 4, 2007
By TekkLover (Tampa, FL)
The setup for this unit is rather difficult and I am not a novice techy. However, once setup this unit works great! The features are equal to or greater than a standard router. I use this for frequent business travel where I can share a single Internet access with colleagues.

Overall, this is a great product. The extremely small size is a big plus.

4.5 stars.

I've had this item for over a year now and it is very useful and easy to use. The size and feature set is awesome and puts larger models to shame. Seriously, it's almost as small as a pack of cards.

I was looking for a device that could be used both as a WAP or router and - unlike most - I did NOT want a device with a huge signal running 24/7. This is because I live in an apartment block in the CBD. A massive signal is overkill, especially in a building shared with quite a few university students and lots of unsecured WiFi networks out there (Are these people crazy?!?!).

With those temptations, the last thing I want is a strong signal for computer science kids and wardrivers to hook into. The signal strength on this model can be supressed as required, the security options are good, the footprint on my computer desk is tiny and the feature set is fantastic.

It would be perfect if it was WPA2.
For now I use the standard recommendations; no broadcast of SSID, MAC filtering, a small DHCP scope for the LAN, a VERY long passcode and I don't run it 24/7.

UPDATE:
With firmware ver 1.10, this device now supports WPA2+PSK. Excellent!!

Not so excellent is that after the firmware update, the device reboots and defaults to NO SECURITY AT ALL without any warning to this effect. So be quick about setting security to WPA2. :)

Low cost and WPA2 capable., October 26, 2007
By Eli.Marin (Clayton, NC USA)
Needed the device to connect my ReplayTV to my WIFI/WPA2 network. I added the ReplayTV MAC address to the Linksys WRT54GC mac filter. Set my laptop to DHCP and connected G730AP (set to Client) and basically followed the wizard. Once it connected to the network, I unplugged it from the laptop and plugged my ReplayTV. Powercycled it made the ReplayTV look for the DHCP server and Walla!!.

Tried a few units that claimed they are WPA2 and never worked. This one was simple, didn't even need the disk.

    Doesn't work as a repeater, October 22, 2007
By Cally Perry (Boston, MA, USA)
This router has multiple useful modes, but repeater is not one of them. While traveling, I needed the ability to set the router up where it could hear the hostel wireless and repeat it so we could use our laptops in our room instead of standing at the end of the hall. No dice.

I had also been hoping to use it as a repeater when I got home. I'll either have to run a wire or buy something else.

great small easy long lasting, October 19, 2007
By johnny (San Francisco, CA United States)
This a great little product, easy to set up, it just started working with my dlink di-624c, just the switches on the back had to be in the right position, plugged into the computer by cat five and set up easy with the same wep key s the di624
, wish it was wireless n with mimo, maybe soon a n version will appear. I wish dlink would advertise all the radio miliwatt outputs for all their products so I can pick the power for my many walled house. This unit has a variable output that I have set on the highest setting. Love it!

    Small winner, October 18, 2007
By Max H. Sherman (Moraga, CA United States)
This very compact router is great for the frequent traveller. It can turn a wired single hotel broadband (e.g. hotel) connection into multiple wireless ones easily. It is possible to use it beyond the single room range, but only if you fiddle with it--because the antenna is internal and is better in some directions than others.

I have read the other reviews and I was sceptical to buy this product. I plugged it into XP and it fired up right away with absolutely no problems. I have very little obstructions in the way, in a large room, and I have FULL bands.

Great portable wireless router, August 24, 2007
By J. Wen (Alhambra, CA USA)
This is one of the best products I've purchased. The item performs all the wireless router functions as expected. It's great that you can switch between 3 different wireless modes, thought I probably will only use one mode. However, what made this router exceptional is the design of the hardware. I already expected it to be small before I get it, but this baby is TINY! I also love DLink allows the router to be powered via USB port. Many portable electronics today use USB to charge/power, so I already carry a USB charger with me whenever I travel. So I do not need to carry another power adapter just for the DLink. Both points made this router a perfect travel companion for road warriors. If you travel frequently, you will LOVE this product.

A convenient way to carry your own WiFi, August 20, 2007
By btbuz (Pemberton, NJ)
I've used this handy device many places where there has been a router available but no wireless connection. It's quick and easy to plug in and connect to. The range is wonderful as well. In one location the modem was in an upstairs bedroom. I plugged in the pocket router and everyone could get on line anywhere in the house. Having all three modes available is convenient so it can be used anywhere.

Great router, bad documentation!, August 3, 2007
By J. Adkins (Fairbanks, AK United States)
First, this router is tiny... smaller than most usb wifi adapters! I was quite suprised when I opened up the box.

I am using it in client mode for my Xbox 360 and it work perfectly after I finally got it setup.

Setup was a bit challeging as some other people have noted, in client mode, you MUST enter your computer's MAC into your routers mac filter, versus the router's MAC. This tripped me up for 15 minutes, until I finally realized and entered the wired computer's MAC. Also, make sure not to enable DHCP on the router itself unless you don't need to access it's menu (versus it's default address of 192.168.0.30) unless of course you need a different address range. DO enable DHCP on your computer though if your network uses DHCP.

Anyway, great product, once setup, it converts any wired computer/device to a wifi connection with no config/drivers.

smallest travel wireless router, July 27, 2007
By ken friedman (Longwood, FL United States)
I have now purchased about 8 of these for my travel, for my kids dorm rooms, for my house and for my employees. I keep one in my travel bag for all trips. It is plug and play and makes every room into a wireless location, freeing you to move around vs. being tied to a desk and its the smallest router I've found yet and best of all you don't have to do anything but plug it in when you arrive to any location.

Perfect for the traveller, July 19, 2007
By http://tpsconsulting.com (BC, Canada)
If you require internet on more then one device while you are travelling, and now a days, who doesn't, with mobile phones, blackberries, pdas, laptops, etc. This is exactly the device you have been waiting for. Small and comes with a great travelling case. The device can be used as a router or an Access point so you are set for anything. No troubles with range, especially if you stick to within your hotel room (or suite).

Great for travel, June 9, 2007
By K. Taiclet (newport news, VA)
I used it while travel state side and overseas. The part I like about it is being able to have one persons room pay for the connection and if close to there room, everybody on your team can share the one paid connection. Also found that its helpful when there is hotels that have wireless connection, but to get a strong signal you have to be near the door and not next to the desk. I switched it to recive from the router to my laptop and took a 50 foot cable with me. Set this unit next to the door, run the cable to the laptop on the desk. Presto strong signal! The ability to use it in multiple applications is great.

    Fabulous small, June 5, 2007
By OBJUAN (New Orelans)
Ok the point of a small wireless router is for it to be small wireless and easy to use. This is it. Tiny, simple instructions, simple set up whatever you have. It is great. The only thing that I found useless was the USB power. I mean if you have to hook the thing up to the cable, then if you use the USB power, you have to tether your laptop to it to so it makes this useless as wireless product. I make that point for the sake of making a point. It really doesn't matter at all. The unit works great with its power supply.
PRODUCT DOES WHAT IT SAYS IT WILL DO. NUFF SAID.
