Worked flawlessly straight out of the box, April 8, 2006
By IT professional (PA, USA)
I'm not sure why some individuals have issues with this kit. This is the third D-Link set of routers and notebook cards I have installed and I've had no issues with any of them. They install great and don't experience any intermittent connection or reboot problems. No incompatibility issues or driver problems whatsoever. I made sure I followed the directions regarding installation of the drivers PRIOR to installing the hardware (VERY important with Windows XP). Make sure your machine is up to the latest version of Windows XP fix-packs (SP2) with all the patches available, and it should work well. I'm very happy with my purchase.

Setup was easy. I followed the instructions contained in the manual, and within 10 minutes I was WIRELESS. I have absolutely no regrets and am satisfied with his purchase. A good product from D-Link.

No Brainer Install and Fast, Fast, Fast, February 16, 2006

Unbelievably easy to install and get running. I probably spent around 15 minutes and 5 of those minutes were opening the box and shrink wrap. I had an older D-Link that is no longer made and it served me well. When I broke my card, it was time to upgrade and I am so glad I made this decision to stay with D-Link. It was effortless and painless to get running.

Great so far, December 30, 2005

I was originally confused because every wireless router had horror stories attached to it. I saw some positives about this one but also many negatives, I have to say I went with this one because of the rebate and it has been great. Setup was easy (I am no computer whiz)security features are a little confusing but the signal works great in my whole house (basement and upstairs). In case anyone goes through the same difficulty, for some reason Internet explorer won't work so I had to use a different browser like AOL.

    Buyer Beware, December 1, 2005

First of all the software that they sent for the DWL-G650 was not compatible with Win XP. When I loaded their drivers they crashed a brand new Sony VAIO. Dealing with the software issues took a week. Then I sent in the rebate and they said I had sent everything properly but that they had received it after their 30 day deadline. I have no way of checking the veracity of that comment but I get the distinct impression that I got RIPPED.

    Good stuff!, October 12, 2005

Overall, great product. Probably the best price for what it is. It doesn't look as "cool" as Netgear perhaps, but the quality is sound. Great $40 rebate too.

I would say that I am above average in terms of computer knowledge but this product was SO easy to set up and use. It took me literally 15 minutes to put the card in my computer and hook up the router, and then the 2 cds that it comes with load in 10 minutes. I have Windows XP Professional and had no issues. My signal strength is very strong, especially if you are within 12 feet of the router. I am nearly always at 108 if I am in the same room as the router.

One issue, the router is a firewall and so you may need to adjust a few settings to access certain password protected websites like e-mail. Actually, AOL is the number one problem here. For people who are technically savy, the MTU rate needs to be lowered in some cases to match with an ISP better. They have a toll-free number, which is great because many places make you use long-distance. (877-453-5465). The tech support at D-Link are very good and sent me an e-mail within 1 hour of me asking. I would contact them before purchasing the product if you have compatibility questions.
Again, I am pretty pumped about having this wireless kit and I know/knew nothing about wireless stuff but this was way to easy and I had the entire thing set up and running in the time it took me to watch the Daily Show at the same time...literally.

My Personal Wireless Network at 108 Mbps!!, September 19, 2005

Is Amazing!!, the performance is like the wire network. Is so easy to install. I suggest this product for beginners and professionals.

Great product, not so great driver, September 12, 2005

Setup was quick and simple. Only problem I had was with the card's driver and utility, couldn't get the utility to work, and wireless connection was not always established. Installing the Atheros 4.1.2.71 driver fixed that - have access to the Atheros utility and connection is stable.

This is a great networking solution. I do recommend downloading all the Drivers and new Bios to the Nics and Routers, This will avoid many headacehs.

A real review for the rest of us!, September 5, 2005

If I had to do this again ... well let's just say I don't like being punished. I like the unit for it's flexibility. I think anyone can easily set it up. If your an IT guy, like myself, you will really like the firewall options, although the logging has little to be desired. Now why the (3) three stars? The unit is not reliable! My wired and wireless connection keep dropping. I'm using DSL (PPPOE) and it just cannot keep the connection active. I just installed the newest firmware, ver 2.70, and it's still not working right. I have tried everything to really like this unit, but I would not suggest this to anyone, actually I did to several people, which I of course will retract any praise. Maybe D-Link will get it right next time. For now I will have to call them (D)efective-link.

Wireless router works great. Wireless card sucks. The drivers are not compatible with windows XP. My PC hangs when I start a bulky file transfer over wireless network.

This is one of the Best Wireless Networking Combos!, March 26, 2005
By Larry the Snake (I once was a man)
I've had this combo since way back in the day. This combo's reliability is what brought me to buy the D-Link Wireless Media Player (DSM-320), but you can read about that somewhere else.

This combination of wireless router/AP and adapter card work perfect together. And why wouldn't they right? They are both from D-Link. The router performs great and has kept my network safe from intruders. The security on the wireless AP works great and keep out any intruders that way. The reliability of both of these units keep me running 24/7 with zero problems since installation. If I don't mess around with the settings this shouldn't break right? Well I haven't and it hasn't.

I've shown this off to all my friends who come over, which isn't a lot, but when they see it working they ask how much, if it's easy, and how do they get one. So I let them know. Just get them, they work.

This was the first wireless networking product that I have ever bought. It was so easy to install and set-up. Running XP and I didn't have one problem (heard all of the horror stories). Thanks D-Link!
