| Description: |
| Hawking Technology's H-AI6SDP, 2.4Ghz Hi-Gain Wireless Directional Antenna, boosts your wireless signal strength from 2dBi (standard) to 6dBi! A large problem with many wireless networks is the poor coverage area of standard Wireless networks. Hawking solves this problem with a Hi-Gain antenna that attaches directly to the external antenna connector of your Wireless Access Point or Wireless Network Adapter. By increasing the strength of your external wireless antenna, your Wireless Network distance, signal strength and performance is significantly improved. Simply point your Wireless Directional Antenna in the direction of your Access Point or Network Adapter and easily extend your signal range and quality. Hawking's Hi-Gain Antennae are designed to work with all Wireless Access Points, Wireless Routers and Wireless Network Adapters that have removable external antennae. By using the popular Reverse-SMA connector, the Hawking Hi-Gain Antenna can be used on most wireless devices. This means you are not restricted to just Hawking Wireless products. If you have another brand's Wireless Device with the same connector you may still attach the Hawking Hi-Gain antenna to it. Simply unscrew your current antenna and screw on Hawking's Hi-Gain antenna and you're ready to go! |

So far so good, August 4, 2007
By Cleo (New York City)
Had to replace my little antenna with this Hawking b/c reception to my computer two floors below was not too good. Installed the Hawking and now the reception is very good. Went from 40% to 80% signal strength.
The cord is a bit short and stiff. The antenna doesn't swivel left/right; only up/down.

The perfect tool for WiFi Poaching!, January 11, 2006
By Deluxe (worldwide)
Not only does the antenna give you 6dBi of signal strength, but the radio is rated for 22-23dBm of transmission power! That's stronger than most others on the market.
I use this for WiFi poaching, as from my perch I can count almost 60 access points. The added strength of this device gives me the ability to pull in usable signals that other devices didn't even see.
However, Hawking has now come out with the HWU8DD, with an 8dBi antenna and 22-24dBM of transmission power. This will offer at least 50% more power, as for every 3dB signal increase there is a theorhetical doubling of power.

A noticeable improvement so far, February 1, 2005
By Anodyne (Durham, NC)
I just purchased this product and installed it today. 'Installed' is a little strong because all you do is plug it in. I use a D-Link DI-624 router, which has a pretty small stock antenna. Even sitting next to it, my laptop (which uses a D-Link DWL-G630 PC card adapter) would indicate a 'poor' signal, although I would still get around a 54 Mbps transfer rate. However, moving to my living room (downstairs, on the opposite side of the house, approx. 60 ft. away) it would drop to a 1-7 Mbps rate, or drop the signal entirely. After installing this directional antenna and aiming it generally towards the living room (the literature claims the signal zone covers about an 80 degree cone), I can now sit in my living room and get 24-48 Mbps transfer rate. Oddly though, the adapter still indicates a 'poor' signal no matter what. I now think that this may be indicative of the small antenna in the PC card adapter, but as long as the transfer rate stays decent I can live with it. Bottom line is, so far so good. This device does not create a perfect signal but it did provide a definite and noticeable improvement. Hopefully nothing will change after tonight!

Huge improvement for my wireless network, January 13, 2005
By Brian Shannon (Springfield, VA United States)
The addition of this antenna made a huge improvement in my wireless network. It allowed me to get XBox live online approx 50 feet away and 1 floor below my access point.
Very easy to setup and aim.

No improvement inside a house, September 16, 2004
By kireviewer (Sunnyvale, Ca United States)
Do not buy this to extend the wireless range inside your house. It might work in an open area, but it does not have any impact on a building with interior walls.
I have a wireles router with a 2dBi antenna. I get a very weak signal in a bedroom that is about 20 feet away from the router. The signal has to go through 4 walls, one of which used to be an exterior wall.
I tried using this 6dBi antenna and saw no change in the signal strength. Note that I also tried a 15dBi antenna and only got a very small, nearly unnoticable improvement.
With these types of antennae, you need a clear line of site. Boosting the antenna power will not make the signals travel through walls, or around corners any better.
