Worked well with Dell 5100, May 9, 2006
By user (NJ, USA)
Installed this myself in a Dell 5100 (which is not Centrino) running Win XP Pro SP2. Software installed without a problem, and it was easy to configure to connect to my secure wireless home network. My wife takes this laptop to work in a public school and easily connected to the public school network too.
Documentation that comes with this says it's only for Centrino laptops. Not true. It runs fine in the 5100 which doesn't have a Pentium M or the Centrino chipset. Don't know if Intel would support it in a Dell 5100, but it integrates well with the 5100 motherboard, and we noticed there are now little networking lights working on the back of the computer at the wired cable connection.

Worked with my Thinkpad x24 with addon antenna, January 12, 2006
By user
I bought this WIFI card and ordered a pair of HITACHI mini-pci antenna from an ebay seller in UK for $15.99, now my thinkpad x24 is WIFI. I got rid of my PCMCIA card. Great product! You can do the same thing just like I did to your laptop as long as your laptop has a mini-pci port. All you need is a pair of mini-pci antenna to make your old laptop become a wifi machine.

Great card!, December 31, 2005
By user (Houston, TX)
I bought this card for a Toshiba 1905-S301 and it works great. The card didn't work out of the bag, it's not 100% compatible. The on/off radio switch on the side of the notebook doesn't work with it, if you install the card "as is" the notebook will see the card and the OS will load the drivers but it won't turn on the radio. To solve this little glitch I had to cover the pin 11 and 13 with tape, after that the card worked great. The on/off switch still doesn't work but I can always disable the card using the OS controls.

Not bad, December 12, 2005
By user (Pearland, Texas)
I installed this in my Inspiron D600. At first it was dropping my internet connection every 5 seconds. It would reconnect, load a page, then drop again. I was getting SOOO frusterated. Finally I got back on my old external card and did some research. Turns out more then just me were having this problem. One guy suggested to change the power management from lowest to highest, and viola! No more dropped signal. I am very happy with it now. A good deal at only 27 bucks, but be prepared to jack with it to make it work.

This Centrino claim is getting old., December 2, 2005
By user (United States)
Everywhere you see this card, they say that it is made to work with Centrino this or Centrino that. Well, I have an older Dell Inspiron 5000 with a 700 MHz Pentium 3 processor in it and this card works great in it. It even worked great BEFORE I upgraded the CPU.
I originally had a 500 MHz Celeron CPU in my Inspiron and had absolutely NO problem getting this card to work even then. It was easy to install and the machine recognized that the card was in there right off the bat and didn't put up any sort of fuss at all. I got the drivers from the intel site and it installed flawlessly.
The only problem I had was finding a place to put my antenna wires. If you don't have the wires already in your laptop, you have to purchase them as this thing does NOT come with the antenna wires. They can be bought for around $15 on the internet.
So, for owners of older machines, forget about the Centrino crap. Your machine does not have to have a Centrino CPU for this thing to work. I love it! And now my little Dell Insprion 5000 can do virtually anything YOUR $2000 machine will do!
And seeing as how new machines operate at a fraction of the CPU power the majority of the time, older machines are becoming more of a value each passing day! So don't throw that older machine away or replace it just for something that you THINK will be faster! Because if you have something like I have, it is all you need for 99% of anything you need to do. The other 1% is stuff that the vast majority of people never do anyway.
Buy this thing and try it out. It works great for me in my little Dell!

Is not compatible with all laptops..., November 6, 2005
By user (OC, USA)
First off, the card works great once you get it to work. But getting it to work may be a challenge.
I bought this card for my HP NC6000. Although the guts of this card are identical to the HP card (both made by Intel) found on the HP site, this card will NOT work out of the box with most HP laptops. As it turns out, most laptop manufacturers have their own Intel branded cards and ONLY those cards will work in their laptops (i.e., BIOS will identify the card at bootup and require the card to be removed before finishing booting). There is a workaround for this posted on the HP forum at the HP website that requires some technical expertise, but for those of you that do not want to fool around with re-writing a portion of the ROM on this card, you're probably better off paying the extra amount for a HP labeled card.

Great Wireless Option, September 26, 2005
By user (CA)
Works awesome in my IBM T42 series laptop, great way to get rid of an external adapter. As previously stated, I had to run the no1802.com file to get the laptop to boot, but other than that its been perfect. Highly recommended.
