Description:
The WRT54G Wireless-G Broadband Router puts you onboard for the newest wireless networking standard. Wireless-G is 54Mbps wireless networking that's almost five times as fast as the widely deployed Wireless-B (802.11b) products found in homes & businesses. They can interoperate with existing 802.11b equipment, making them more flexible thanother networks. The built-in 4-port full-duplex 10/100 connects 4 PCs directly and lets you daisy-chain out to more hubs and switches for as big a network as you need. To protect your data and privacy, the Wireless-G Broadband Router can encode all wireless transmissions using 128-bit WEP encryption. The powerful Stateful Packet Inspection firewall will defend against most Internet attacks.

Excellent design, but questionable range, January 18, 2007
By house poor but wireless ready (Milwaukee, WI USA)
Overall I'm satisfied and the price in the low 30's is good. I live in a small one bedroom apartment, less the 800 sq ft. You would think the signal strength would always be excellent, but even 25 ft away I see the loss of signal strength and start noticing hesitation when web pages are loading. I'm using it with a MacBook Pro and Safari and see better performance using a standard ethernet cable. Hopefully there will be a firmware update that improves the performance on the device. You can buy an antenna to increase the signal range but not sure how much more that really gives you. I've had other Linksys products in the past and still trust their brand.

You must be a technical Guru to install this product, January 13, 2007

You need to be a technical guru to install this product. You also better not call Linksys for their technical support because it stinks. They can't help you what they advertise - printer and file sharing. You are on your own there.

really compact and never had a issue with it., January 12, 2007

It works fine as long as you are in a 6ft radius (no walls in between), for better connection, get an antenna.

    linksys router wireless g, January 11, 2007

I have found that this works well within our household. We can use our laptop computer anywhere in the house and can access our two desktops at the same time without any problem.

A small Compact router that does what it says, January 11, 2007
By Lcomix (Santa Clarita Ca)
This router has performed great. I hook up 2 computers and some game systems to it and the speed is the same or faster than if it was wired. There really is nothing bad to say about it. I get "excellent" connection all around my house and most of my backyard. It's very compact and that's always a plus. I just have to meation That I heard that if you open the slot for the external antenna the internnal antenna disables so thats probably why people on this review are having such bad coverage. I never opened to little slot and the connetion is great. The setup was easy and quick. File transfer time is't bad. Transfered 2 gigs in under 2 mins I think.

Overall, this router is worth the price.

Not for the newbie, January 9, 2007
By I. Schmidt (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil)
The product itself is fairly good. However, the documentation to guide you in the setup is insufficient, and the enclosed CD has only very basic, practically useless setup instructions that conflict with printed information. I needed to spend several hours of internet research to try to configure security, port forwarding, etc., and even so the results have been incomplete. Linksys should stop assuming that everyone who buys a router is a geek, and improve its setup instructions.

Not a bad price waiting for the MIR

Home on the Range, January 9, 2007
By Julian Hsu (Irvine, CA)
This little guy works reasonably well as long as you're not too far away from the router. We have ours upstairs, and in a not-very-large house, most of the other rooms are either out of range, or effectively so, as the connect rate ping-pongs between 1 Mb/s and 22 Mb/s.

    GREAT, January 4, 2007
By John Crawford (Los Angeles, CA)
This is the best product I've bought in a long time. I had trouble setting it up because my DSL provider would not provide assistance, because they wanted me to purchase a wireless router through their company. The wireless router they were 'providing as a service for a BIG FEE' was a larger Lynksys router!!! Once I threated to cancel my account, they provided a code.

The funny thing is, I actually didn't need my DLS provider. Lynksys has a FANTASTIC website, and when you log into their 'set up' system, it interactively, while connected to your computer, will set up the router for you!!!! AMAZING!

This router is fine for my 2 bedroom apartment and I am pleased that I decided on this router. Thanks LYNKSYS!

Linksys compact - works well, January 4, 2007
By Staph of One (near the Bio-bags)
I have been using this unit for about 6 months - I had it set up for my home network on Comcast. I retired it when I switched to the Verizon FIOS - but after three days with their monstrous wireless router and it interference with my cordless phones, I switched back to this - small foot print, good price - easy to use and set-up - plenty of features - I use both wired and wireless (tivo adapter) - connections. Cloned my mac address of the verizon unit and have had not issues since. Recommend the optional antenna, as the wireless range is limited otherwise.

Wireless does not work well., January 3, 2007
By harrkev (Colorado Springs, CO United States)
I got this at a great price several months ago, and have been using it as a wired router, and was not using the wireless portion at all. Recently my wife got a shiny new laptop, and I decided to set the wireless portion up. The unit worked well enough with encryption disabled, but using WPA caused the laptop to fail to get an IP address using the DHCP server about 90% of the time, and this was five feet from the router. I would constantly have to disconnect and reconnect several times before the wireless would work. The fact that it worked sometimes told me that the settings were correct. I dumped this unit and replaced it with a D-Link, and my wife can connect flawlessly every time. Save your time and money, and pass on this turkey. Because it works OK as a wired router, it gets two stars.

Do not upgrade firmware, December 27, 2006
By Alok Govil (CA USA)
It worked great. Is very nice and compact.

Everything was good till I upgraded to the latest firmware from Linksys' website. It completely stopped working.

Google suggests that almost anyone who tried to updrage firmware had the same story.

Good all around, December 25, 2006
By Tech Bob (AL USA)
I have owned this about a year now and it has performed flawlessly. Small size means it can be portable, but it performs as well as a full size wireless router. Very reasonable price made it the perfect choice for me. All I really needed was a wireless access point for a new laptop. Since I already had a DSL modem functioning as a router, I did not really need that function. The instructions in the manual and the web site allowed me to configure it just how I needed it. I would definitely recommend over other brands I have had which never functioned properly.

    Works great!!!, December 17, 2006
By Meticulous27 (Fayetteville, NC)
I bought my router about 4 or 5 months ago and it works great. The range isn't very far but my computers have no problem connecting. I had to call support to set it up because my ip address was just not working with it. Support was excellent, they had me up and running in no time flat. I would recommend this product to anyone.

Excellent wireless Router, December 17, 2006
By beta (USA)
Excellent Router, with a very good signal strength cover at least my 2000qf apartment without needing an external antenna. i believe this is the best for this price range.

    Linksys sucks!!, December 14, 2006
By Jie Li
I WOULD GIVE NEGATIVE STAR IF I COULD.
This is the worst router I ever uesd. The first day I got it, it broke down. It stop working every few seconds! Yes, every few seconds. You even can not surf the internet, since it disconnected constantly. And when disconnecting, you even can not connect to the router.
Nothing good except it is small ang ugly!
TRUST ME! DO NOT BUY IT!
AND I WILL NOT BUY ANY LINKSYS PRODUCT AGAIN.
THEIR SERVICE SUCKS TOO.

Another piece of Linksys garbage..., December 10, 2006
By N. Kurland (VA)
In theory, this would be an excellent router if they would fix the existing issues.

Wifi signal strength is not too great. If you buy the router buying an antenna is a must, but then again it seems this router is more designed for being portable and not to feed internet to your whole house. There are MANY MANY existing issues which have not been resolved in firmware upgrades, even Linksys site has the issues listed yet has not put out a new firmware in well over a year. Yet they recently put out a firmware for Britain which fixed the issue with connections being dropped. Even then, this router randomly drops connections after a few hours, VPN through this router is nearly impossibly if you need to use your connection for more than 10 minutes. And what takes the cake is that a simple firmware update bricks the router, amazing. Between this and the rest of the Linksys routers I've owned, I'd say Linksys is going downhill with the crap they're pushing out. Coming from someone who used to swear by Linksys, thats pretty bad.

    Signal Issues, November 25, 2006
By J. Whitling (Twin Cities, MN)
I purchased this to replace an older "B" standard router and ended up returning it because the range wasn't very good. I had the router upstairs and was getting poor or no signal downstairs. I never had any signal problems with my old router. This product might be ok if you live in an apartment or one story house. It is compact and looks good.

Very compact and excellent router !!, November 23, 2006
By Shanks (Plainsboro, NJ USA)
This is one of the most compact routers available. It also doesn't have an external antenna, but that doesn't mean that its range is less.
The performance so far has been amazing...I have connected Vonage, a wireless laptop and a desktop PC to this router and have never had any troubles wrt configuration, speed or security. I have a Uniden 2.4GHz cordless phone and this router doesn't even interfere with the phone.
Overall a feature rich and top performer...!
