This product was the one and only solution to my Internet problem! Thank you, Linksys for making a very useful product!

WET54G Wireless-G Ethernet Bridge, May 9, 2007
By J. Mulvey (Philadelphia, Pa)
Product works as specified except I had trouble retaining an IP address other than the default( IP would be accepted and then be reset to default IP when power was cycled to XBox). I am using the bridge to wirelessly connect and XBOX 360 to my home Linksys router. I am able to stream video, mp3 and jpegs to the XBOX 360. Overall product works well just use the default IP set by Linksys and you will save yourself alot of head scratching.

GREAT!, May 9, 2007
By MRTitus (USA)
Worked fine right out of the box. Having been using it and have not had any problems. I do not broadcast an SSID from my router and I use a different subnet mask. It was easy and straight-forward configuring. I have (3) ethernet bridges, locally attched PC, and a networked printer.

Works fine with Debian GNU/Linux, March 30, 2007
By J. Sparks (Indiana)
This is why I bought the WET54G. Had to go to the Linksys website to get the correct directions to setup the device. Couldn't access the setup program inside the WET54G unless my ethernet card had a static IP address. I give 5 stars because it works flawlessly like all linksys hardware that I own.

Just doesn't work, February 10, 2007
By K. Jacobs (Walnut Creek, CA)
Constantly drops the connection with the wireless network. Bought it for my sling box, as I didn't have a wired connection near the TV. Works sparingly at best before dropping the signal and needing to be reset.

Works well...after you get it setup, February 6, 2007
By Noah Sanders (Tulsa, OK)
First off, this works very well. We use it for an old iBook without an airport card, and with a PS2. I have a Linksys router and figured this would be an easy setup. Not quite, 4 hours later it was finally working, and I honestly don't know what I did to finally make it work. Haven't had any problems with it since then.

Frustrating firmware, but now working, January 31, 2007
By Karl in NY (Upstate New York)
I received hardware version 3.1, but unfortunately it had a two-year-old firmware version installed in it which would not support WPA2. When I went to the Linksys support site to download newer firmware, I was amazed to see there had been nine versions released since the the version my WET54G shipped with...why does Linksys continue to ship products with such obsolete firmware installed? Since this was hardware version 3.1, the unit was obviously not stale stock.
Even the latest firmware has bugs, though none were fatal. In infrastructure mode, the channel number cannot be changed from the default channel six, for example. The solution was to set up in ad hoc mode, change the channel, then reconfigure to infrastructure mode. There are other glitches, too, suggesting to me Linksys is just plain sloppy.
But, once up and running, the WET54G seems to do exactly what it's supposed to do, though somewhat slowly. I'm using it to stream video from a network camera and found I had to reduce the frame rate due to limited bandwidth.
The WET54G is somewhat unique in that it's a bridge that doesn't need drivers installed and can thus be used with "dumb" ethernet peripherals such as net cams and printers. If that feature is not important to you, I think I would consider a different model.

Amazon is shipping an obsolete version of the WET54G, December 22, 2006
By Michael Hahn
Just received my WET54G and the hardware version is obsolete (v 1.1). The current version, according to Linksys, is version 3. This version is so obsolete you can't even upgrade the firmware. And it does not support WPA. Otherwise, it works great :-)

Stay Away from This Product!, December 9, 2006
By H. Chou (Somewhere, USA)
The WET54G performed very poorly, it is especially disappointing because I've generally had good experience with Linksys products. First off, if your network/computer is not on a 192.168.1.x (subnet mask 255.255.255.0) network, the set-up utility will NOT work -- you'll have to change the IP of your network switch or your PC to the 192.168.1 subnet which defeats the purpose of the set-up utility! Of course this issue is NOT mentioned in the manual. Once you have your network set to 192.168.1.x, the set-up utility offers almost no value, because you can simply point your internet browser to 192.168.1.226 to configure the parameters. It took a little time to figure out how to work around the issue above, and based on positive experience with Linksys in the past, I decided to give it the benefit of the doubt, "So what if the config is a little kludgy! Just 'long as the product performance is robust -- like my WRT54G wireless NAT, right?" WRONG! Aside from other lesser bugs with the firmware (eg. config savings are only committed sometimes, other times the browser will just sit there churning until time-out), the most unacceptable issue is that the connection gets dropped constantly! Albeit having my notebook a couple feet away from the WET54G! I tried streaming pretty low-rez mpeg4 video (640x480 @ <30fps with medium compression) with the WET54G and when the device decides that it can't handle the load, it not only hangs, but decides to reset itself! This happens about once every 2 minutes or so! It is unbelievable how something so incredibly unreliable can be on the market! Some reviewers mentioned about the hardware version, the one I received was 1.1, and the latest firmware is dated 2003?! 3 years ago?! Enough said! If you are even THINKING about getting this P.O.S., DON'T!

DO NOT BUY THIS, November 20, 2006
By kbg (NYC)
I have tried time and again to get this bridge to work and no dice. I did exactly what the previous poster said about configing the IP address - didn't work so I gave the CD a go. That worked fine - as long as the brige was wired to the router. When I tried to use it for my Replay TV - no go. So I tried to upgrade the firmware - the upgrade tool crashed midway through and now the bridge is not accessable at all. TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY.

WET54G Wireless Bridge did the job., November 6, 2006
By N. Surles (Benson, NC USA)
I needed to connect to my house LAN from a workshop several hundred feet away. Using two of these bridges with Super Cantennas worked great. It took a while to talk to them (had to change my PC's LAN address to match the bridge's deafult). After that, as advertised. I wish Linksys would tell you about that up front.

Easy to install, works as billed, November 3, 2006
By Chris Rink (Marietta, GA United States)
The bridge was simple to install and has worked well since we have has it installed. It is controlling a HP Deskjet printer that is used in a classroom and gets a good amount of use. It continues to work well and I would not hesitate to purchase another one if the need arose.

BIG DISAPPOINTMENT, November 3, 2006
By MJS (Sunny Florida)
THE EASY SETUP SOFTWARE INCLUDED, DOES NOT EVEN RECOGNISE THE BRIDGE. YOU HAVE TO SET YOUR TCP/IP SETTINGS ANYTIME YOU WANT TO GO IN AND CHANGE CONFIG. TECH SUPPORT KNEW LESS THAN THE HOMELSS GUY IN FRONT OF MY BUILDING AND AS THE REST OF THE TECH INDUSTRY, THE CUSTOMER SUPPORT AND TECK SUPPORT ARE NOW IN INDIA AND THERE ARE LANGUAGE BARRIERS..... TO TOP IT OFF, TECH SUPPORT COULD NOT FIX PROBLEMS AND NOW I AM STUCK WITH IT, DUE TO CUSTOMER SUPPORT WILL NOT REFUND MONEY. ALSO BOUGTH WRT54G... NEVER COULD MAKE IT WORK OR REMAIN STABLE AND ONCE AGAIN, THEIR OWN SOFTWARE DOES NOT WORK!!! THE WORST INVESTMENT I HAVE MADE SINCE BUYING A COMPUTER WITH TECH SUPPORT IN INDIA! :(

Extremely reliable!, September 26, 2006
By P. Weyzen (Lompico, CA USA)
I've got 2 of these on my home network, and they are able to connect to the wireless lan where other's have failed. I use the WPA-PSK mode, and it works perfectly. Connection is always up.
Note: I tried a related product to this one -- the WETG54S5 (bridge + switch). Don't bother. Under encrypted mode, it's nearly useless.

Excellent Wireless to Ethernet Bridge!, August 18, 2006
By James, CIO (OKC, OK)
Purchased this bridge to connect our ethernet printer / copier / fax to our wireless network. Setup was quick and simple! I ended up connecting it to a switch to connect a few other ethernet devices as well. Each device was able to properly obtain an IP address from the DHCP server without interruption from the bridge, and the bridge is handling the bandwidth very efficiently! I highly recommend this product for it's stability and easy setup.

Eventually works well, August 9, 2006
By M. Hoggard (Los Angeles, CA)
The WET54G has been working very well in wirelessly connecting my MythTV box to the rest of my household. However, getting it configured was much more difficult than it should have been. Problem 1: I connect the WET54G (V3.0) to my computer and start the setup disk. The setup program says that it cannot see any WET54G device and bails out. The solution was to reconfigure my network connection to use 192.168.1.x addresses, then use my browser to connect to the WET54G at address 192.168.1.226. Problem 2: The instructions say to enter "admin" into the password field when the connection dialog box appears. That did not work. Trial and error found that placing "admin" (without quotes) in both the name field and the password field would get me into the configuration screens. Problem 3: The WET54G would not remember my WEP encryption information. As soon as I said to apply the key information, it switch to Radius security mode and wouldn't communicate with my wireless network. The solution was to download the latest version of firmware which did not have this problem. So I'm happy now with my WET54G, but there must be a lot of frustrated who gave up on it and switched to something else.

setup not confusing, just impossible, July 27, 2006
By Neil Fullagar (CA USA)
The setup wizard doesn't even see the bridge. Cable is good, proven by making IP connection to brdge. So no problem, right? Just use the handy web utility for setup. Nope. The stated password is not accepted.
This is a v3. I don't think a firmware upgrade is going to help because there's no way (at least for the customer) to get the new firmware in.
The final suggestion from their Tech Support waas to return it as defective and try another unit. This was the same suggestion they had for a non-functional WUSB54G. I guess they must be shipping a lot of defective units.

Dead on Arrival, July 16, 2006
By Thomas S. Nelsen (palo alto, ca)
The unit was impossible to steup and contact with Linksys service led to a lot of automatic replies which never addressed the problem that i could not communicate with the unit to progam it. a total loss.

Setup is Poor, terrible customer support, hard to return, June 27, 2006
By ChipZ (Citrus Springs, FL USA)
I bought this product and the wrt54gs router. The Linksys literature states that these two products can be used to have a wireless network. The literature states that these products are easy to hookup and configure. I spent four hours on my own and then four hours with Linksys tech support via live chat, no less than five support people, two of whom deliberately disconnected from me. I am not a newbie computer/network guy, I know what a gateway and loopback is, and these products do not work, and Linksys would not even give me an RMA. they refused to deal with me and make these products work. Never again will I purchase or recommend Linksys products. Terrible customer support.Product does not work as advertised.
