This is the Smart Decision, August 10, 2007
By Bemused by a Muse (The Great Nation of Texas)
Bought the 360 last summer, but did not have any way to attach a cat-5 cable to it, as the home network is all wireless. So, I needed a bridge, and I was determined to find a cheaper alternative to the $100 Microsoft unit. This was it, under thirty dollars at the time, and it has worked flawlessly. Online play in Halo, or Chromehounds, or when downloading on Live, everything is solid and fast. I do dock it a star simply because the documentation is woeful. My advice, set all your wep settings on the 360 itself, then put the Linksys in 'b' mode, and it should work without much hassle. You will occasionally need to 'reboot' this thing though, just unplug the power cord and plug it back in. Overall, I would get it again.

Works Great on the XBox 360, August 9, 2007
By Zerodev (New York, NY USA)
I purchased this item to connect my XBox 360 to the internet, and I have to say the product works well. Lag is minimal, except when initially connecting to XBox Live.

The only real problem I have with the device is the difficulty I had installing it. For whatever reason, the software that it comes bundled with is defective; I attempted to connect to the device with my computer but kept receiving a "Connect failed!" message. I had to download it from the Linksys website after rummaging the internet and finding that this problem is a common occurrence. I was also disappointed to find that it only supports WEP encryption, not WPA; I had to change my WLAN security settings just to be able to use it.

All in all, however, it was a short time to set it up and get online. I recommend it, as this device is half the price of the Microsoft wireless ethernet adapter for the 360.

I have a couple of questions at the Wireless B Game Adapter that I hope someone can help me with.

The setup previously: I had a motorola wireless router plugged into my modem, desktop computer was plugged into the wireless router directly, two laptops hooked up wirelessly, and a wireless B game adapter downstairs hooked into my 20gig PS 3. This setup was working fine until the motorola would not let me play ceratin games on my PS 3 online so I went out and bought a WAP54G Linksys wireless router.

Current Setup: WAP54G is plugged into my cable modem with my desktop computer plugged directly into the WAP54G directly and this is upstairs in my home. I have two laptops that are wireless and the wireless B Game Adapter plugged into my PS 3 downsstairs. I have SSID endabled and WEP enabled. I can now play the games online that I could not play before but when I have he Wireless B game adapter plugged in and getting a signal one of my laptops will not connect onto the network wirelessly. An error comes up and it says that there is an IP conflict. Before the wireless B would get a constant signal but now the green signal light blinks on and off. I can still get online with the PS 3 and once I get online it is stable. But to get online I keep having to re-connect and re-connect until it gets the signal stable. Before it would just connect automatically when I logged onto my PS 3. So there must be a problem with the setup with the Wireless B Game Adapter. I do not understand the whole static IP and everything is connected on automatic with no certain IP's assigned to anything. If someone knows the answer to my problem I would greatly appreciate a step by step process to fix this. Thanks.

No problems. Plug and Play, July 18, 2007
By Carlos Bolanos
I keep reading all these negative reviews.. so i had to comment on my experience with this product. Well, i don't know a whole lot about wireless setups and such, but when i got this adapter, i was playing in an instant. I just plugged the ethernet cable from the adapter to the Xbox 360, and wham, i got connected with Xbox Live. I've had it for like 2 months and it's intact, the connection never fails, and i'm enjoying it a whole lot (got Xbox Live Gold like the day after and have had no problems). The adapter connects with the Access Point (router) that's like 10 Feet away. I didn't have to even read the manual, it was just Plug and Play. I give it 5 stars because i just had it sooo easy to install this, and it works like a charm. No Lagging at all, great signal strength too.

Could be a little faster but that could be caused by my router.Just plug it in and your connected.A lot better price than the $99 for the OEM product..

Works for solo XBOX 360 play, May 12, 2007

Product works fine for connecting to wireless network and online. I do not play online multiplayer and do not think this would be fast enough for that.

Good adapter, dont spend $99 on official, April 9, 2007

Great adapter, but dont go too far from access router. and it works on xbox live. lag only when you are 30 feet or more DEPENDING ON HOUSE MATERIAL inside the walls, and easy to set up just read the MANUAL

    Works with Xbox360/WPA Encryption, April 1, 2007
By Enoch E. Dinsley
Although it took about 30 minutes (on and off) to set up, I was able to get the adapter to work with my Xbox360 as well as my wireless network which uses WPA encryption. I followed the advice of another user and set up the adapter using my PC. Once I had it working on the PC, I just plugged it into the 360 and it worked perfectly.

This is a great value.

Awesome! And cheap., March 10, 2007
By Scott Lewis (Burlington, Vermont USA)
This is a great item, especially for the price I got it at. It's not as simple as the XBox brand wireless network adapter, which I've heard and read is plug and play, but it's worth spending the extra five minutes to set it up and save $50. Minimal knowledge of networking is a plus in setting it up, and a lot of help can be found online if necessary.

    Cheap Alternative, February 7, 2007
By A. Sutton (Alexandria, VA USA)
This is a cheap alternative to the the solutions that the game manufacturers offer at a premium price. It was somewhat of a pain to install as it is a little confusing, but once configured, it works well.

Such a simple and powerful product for such a great price!!, February 2, 2007
By Robert Nine (Aiken, SC)
What a great product!! It probably took me about 5 minutes or less to set this thing up. If you're having trouble setting your adapter up, here's what I did to get mine up and running. I plugged it in then connected it to my linksys router. I then moved the switch on the adapter from "X" to "II". Then I went to my computer and went to the linksys website and downloaded the latest install/configuration software from them. I ran the application and it instantly detected the adapter connected to my router. I then proceeded to setup "Profile 1" on the adapter with all of the information of my wireless router. It needed the ssid (name of your network) which is case sensitive btw, and it asked for my wep key of the router, along with some other small information. Once I entered all the information, I finished using the program and unplugged the adapter from my router and plugged it into the back of my xbox. I then hit the blue button on the side of the adapter until the little screen read "P1" (symbolizing "Profile 1") and I was online in no time. It sounds like it took way longer than 5 mins, but it was SO simple, yet so powerful and for less than $20 it can't be beat!! I highly recommend this product!! :)

great adapter if you don't have an encryption on your internet, January 21, 2007
By MR JACK 274 (USA)
As soon as i got this thing working, it worked great with no lag. Plus, i saved about 60$ by getting this one instead of the microsoft one. However, my internet has WEP encryption, and i don't know a whole lot about compuers so couldn't get it to work. I finally called linksys support, and it was one of the worst experiences i've ever had over the phone. First of all, the tech guy was from another county (I won't say which), i had to ask him to repeat himself after nearly every thing he said. Not only that, but he was extremely incompetent, and sounded like a robot reading text off of his computer screen. He eventually had me reset my lynksys router which he claimed was "broken" (it works fine) and this made things a lot worse. Now my wireless internet wasn't working, my game adapter wasn't working and there is a man on the phone telling me that i need to send the router back.

That aside, the reason i gave it 2 stars instead of 0 is because i finally got it to work. when i reset the broadband router, it incedentally turned off the encryption. With the encryption off, i was able to plug the adapter right and begin playing immediately with virtually no setup. If you know how to turn off your internet encryption (if you have one) then i would get this product, but if you don't, then buy the microsoft one.

It's not bad, but I can no longer get it to work. It needs some way to determine the strength of signal it is receiving.

    Would give it a 4 but..., December 22, 2006
By Computer junky (Hudson, WI USA)
One word of advice. If your wireless router is downstairs and your Xbox 360 is upstairs with the HDTV, you better have a repeater. Great signal when I'm downstairs and at least 20 feet from my Netgear router, but when I take it upstairs it obtains and drops the signal on an almost second by second basis. I'm sure it works fine with a wireless router across the room from it, but don't get your hopes up if you're going the distance.

Setup can be a pain. Some kind of reset voodoo has to happen to it when you press the reset button to get it to default settings so you can access it with the setup software. But once you get it set every profile to the same SSID and related info. Seems if profile 1 won't work the others might. And the profiles are represented on the unit as P1, P2 and P3. There are ad-hoc settings on a straight channel basis. They call it "Head to Head." As I don't have another Xbox 360 and another unit here to test it I'm figuring it works as expected with the advertised "0 configuration."

Oh! And here's something I found out while fiddling with a Linksys wired router and this thing. When plugged into one of the 4 access ports on a router it acts as a wireless bridge to whatever else is plugged into the other 3 ports. No connection to a cable modem necessary. Of course this means you need a wireless router already connected to the cable modem. But! It adds more Ethernet ports with an old unused wired router in a remote location (away from the main wireless router). Neat huh? Add three more computers to the network in addition to the 4 ports on the main wireless router.

I purchased a refurbished WGA11b to get my Xbox 360 connected to my wireless network (Belkin 802.11g router). I connected this to my laptop through the ethernet port (I did have to switch the WGA11b to crossover mode and disable the wireless adapter on my laptop to get my laptop to see it, but that wasn't difficult...it might be handy to have that information in the manual though, and it is the only negative thing I have to say about it, and that's more about the manual instead of the device). The wizard is pretty simple, and once it found the adapter it was very easy for me to enter in my WEP key and select the profile on the adapter. The thing immediately connected as soon as I selected P1 and I was able to browse the internet to test it. I then unplugged the cable from my laptop and hooked it up to my Xbox 360 and it immediately logged me into Xbox Live. I downloaded 2 1 gb demos in an hour or 2, which is acceptable to me.

I can't wait to test out some multiplayer games with it to see if there is any latency. If I can edit this or comment on it, I will come back and post my results.

I bought this product about a week ago, and I find that it is a perfect solution for wirelessly connecting my xbox to my router. However, moderate networking skills are required. You'll have to have DHCP enabled, Make sure your SSID boadcast is on, and know how to allow mac addresses using the wireless client filter. I had a little confusion with the controls on the unit. I thought there was a seperate switch for adhoc and infastructure mode, but I quickly found out that selecting channels 1-11 automatically put you in adhoc mode, In was for infastructure mode with no security, and P1-P3 was for Infastructure mode with security. It worked perfectly once I figured everything out. Much better product than other option considering its very low price.
