Or, you can use a pair of Game Adapters to form a "cable-less cable" between two game consoles for head-to-head gaming -- in the same room, or all the way across the house!

It's cheap, and it works. What more do you want?, July 8, 2006
By Adam G. Tilghman (San Diego, CA)
If you just need to add wireless to a single device -- whether it's an XBox, an old Macintosh, or a TiVo -- this is a reasonable choice.

Warning: if the default configurations don't work for you, you'll need to configure the adapter using their Windows-only setup program. Be sure to download the latest "Driver" (setup/installer) from the Linksys website -- the version shipped on the CD didn't work properly.

Lots of bugs and bad units, July 7, 2006
By R. Oneill (Somewhere, out there, watching)
I received a bad device and had the same problem as the other reviewer below: "Connect Fail, Please try again." This error happens after the unit is connected to a computer and asks for the default password "admin". The device fails to recognize this password and will only display the error. Resetting the device (hard reset) has no effect; you simply cannot modify the default settings of the device.

It seems that there a quite a few people having this problem. If you google this error you can see that it appears to be a hardware problem and the unit has to be replaced. Just a little search shows that there are "way too many people" having this problem.

I deal with networking issues all the time and had no problem with getting the device initially connected (I just could not modify the default settings due to the problem). However, someone who does not do networking or understand networking will have a hard time.

    Worked Great, July 5, 2006

This was incredibly easy! After reading a couple of hints online, we hooked this up to my son's XBox and viola!

Couldn't have been easier!

Useless documentation, somethings don't work as expected, but it gets the job done., May 26, 2006
By bagz12 (Chicago, IL)
I was excited to pick this thing up at such a low price. I read the reviews and was confident I could deal with configuring this thing to work in my home. The documentation is horrible. There are two pages on configuration with no discussion of the capabilities of this device. From what I was able to gather, this device does not pass on DHCP requests (even though it is supposed to be a bridge which should pass everything transparently). Perhaps it was just my configuration but I could not get a dynamically allocated IP address from the wireless access point in my office. Neither this device nor the laptop I connected to it could get an address. I had to resort to assigning a static IP to my laptop. Once this was done everything worked as expected.

Once the configuration was sorted out the device worked like a charm. I am happy with the purchase overall but buyer beware, if you've done more configuration to your WAP then just turning it on you will need to wrestle with this little thing to get it to submit. Still better than paying $80+ for a full-blown bridge.

Didn't work for me and my xbox, April 29, 2006

It didn't even try to work. Tried everything. Sending back. Bummer.

I figured it out so you can too!!!!, April 4, 2006

I'm not going to lie for some it might be just a plug in and play but for most it has and will be a hassel at first. But through some luck and a little knowledge you to can figure this sucker out. The easiest way I would reccomend would be install both your Wireless Broadband Router and you Wireless b game adapter at the same time.
1.First install the Wireless Broadband Router and make sure that you write down all your information (Passphrase, SSID, and it might help to know your IP adress. Your passphrase could be your last name and your SSID could be a nickname. Also set the WEP to 64.

2. Once you're finished installing the Broadband Router I suggest plugging in your Wireless b game adapter directly to your computer. Then use the setup cd it provided you with and enter in
The exact same info that you did for the Wireless Broadband Router for the game adapter. Also set the WEP to 64. Once you've done that it should say congradulations you've configured the game adapter.

3. Finally the true test!! Take the game adapter and set it to P1 and plug it into your game consol and it should do the rest for you.

    Perfect, March 25, 2006
By A. Graupmann (ohio)
It can fit anywhere, it sets up in seconds, and it works perfectly. I'm amazed. I'm using it for my PS2, and there's no lag or any other problem at all. I couldn't ask for a better product, not to mention it's a fraction of what all other products of this type cost. Before you shell out $100 on an official Microsoft or similar adapter, save yourself some money and go with this one, because it does not dissapoint.

    Worked - then didn't, March 12, 2006
By Red Rhino (Atlanta, GA)
I was pleased by the fact that I was able to get this working and everything was great, however, only a few weeks later, it would no longer wirelessly connect. Endless resetting of the adaptor and contacting customer support (oh that was such a joy!), failed to solve the problem. I eventually sent it back.

Great Game Adapter, March 10, 2006
By Dawn Salter (Memphis, TN United States)
This game adapter works great. I was worried that it wouldn't work with the XBOX 360 but it does. The best part it is a lot cheaper than the microsoft network adatper they are selling.

    Works on xbox 360!, March 4, 2006
By J. Hee (Las Vegas, NV)
A great alternative to the $100 xbox 360 adapter. It was quick and easy to set up. I just plugged the adapter into the console, selected the "unprotected" channel and I was on XBox Live! Couldn't believe how simple it was.

I have not tried to configure it to use a key-protected wireless network yet.

Edit: i have not configured it to use my WAP protected network. Set up took about an hour, but overall not excruciating. Does require occasional resetting when unused for long periods (weeks).

    I was pleased with this item. . ., March 3, 2006

I don't actually use the adapter for gaming. I wanted something that would take my wireless signal so that I can have a hard-wired connection at another spot in my home. It works great for that.

    works with Xbox 360 !!!, March 1, 2006

I have a wireless network with no encryption and all i had to do to get this baby to work was plug it into my 360 and press the blue button until it displayed "In". Works perfectly. Great bargain!

    Great Adaptor, February 28, 2006
By unknown
I got this adaptor in August of 2005 and it works great. I have had very few problems with it since then. I use this adaptor to connect to xbox live and it works flawlessly. However, about every two weeks it just disconnects for no apparent reason. I then just use the troubleshooter and it works fine. I don't know if this is caused by the adaptor or by the xbox, but aside from that it works great.

    Works with Xbox 360!, February 8, 2006

I used this game adapter in order to avoid running ethernet cable around my room. It's a bit tricky to setup. I had to connect the adapter to my Netgear router using cable first, and configure it using the included CD. But once it's done, it works wonderfully. I'm able to get on Xbox Live without problem, and no lag! Don't spend $100 for the MS version, which I think it's total rip off!

works, but the manual leaves out A LOT of necessary info., February 7, 2006
By Brendon M. Macaraeg (Los Angeles, CA United States)
First off, I am not a novice to wireless networking: I bought my first AP and Lucent/Orinoco-chipset based PC Card adapter back in the fall of 2000 before the technology went mainstream.

I generally am a fan of Linksys, but with this unit they really dropped the ball: the documenation is minimal and really doesn't show the user how to properly configure the unit. Perhaps the most crucial piece of information that is left out is this: if you plan to use this with non-Xbox Live applications (like FTPing to your Xbox drive) you MUST add BOTH your Xbox's MAC address AND this unit's MAC address to your AP's MAC Address Filtering table, otherwise forget about getting an IP assigned to this adapter via DHCP.

If you plan to use this with a wireless access point with SSID broadcasting off, MAC address filtering in addition to WEP encryption, you're in for a few hours of frustrating configuration with this thing. Once you get it working, it works as promised, but I just can't give this a stellar review. It just is not "out of the box plug and play!" as the marketing on the box tries to make you think. And surely anyone who cares a smidgen about securing their wireless network will want to at least turn off SSID and use MAC address filtering.

    360 Compatible, January 28, 2006
By Justin (NJ)
For those of you who were wondering, yes it does work with the Xbox 360. I used this for over a year with my old Xbox and now use it with the 360. It works great, and is a much cheaper solution to the official Xbox 360 wireless adapter with the same perfomance!

Linksys has great products!, January 26, 2006
By techlover (Milwaukee Wisconsin)
I have become a big fan of Linksys, I own several of their products, 4 port router, adapters and now this too. The thing Ilove about Linksys is their willingness to try to help you if you have difficulties, even years after purchasing a product, I can call them up and get all the help I need, you can't find that with most other product manufacturers who dump you the minute the warranty expires or won't even help you in the first place. I bought this for my son and with a phone call to Linksys we had it all up and running in a short time and now he can go online and play games etc... so I do recommend this.

It really works!!!, January 21, 2006
By Cesar
I had this for 2 months now and the thing works great. it was almost plug & play (since i have a wep encrypted password). First i had to plug it directly to a pc to configure it. The configuration was basically program the password of my wireless modem (2wire). Then plug it to my xbox nd start using it without any problems at all! I have had no lag problems or any reception problems even though my wireless modem is about 70ft away from the game adapter. I strongly recommend this wireless game adapter.

Confusing setup, but works great once configured, January 19, 2006
By B. Harris (Chicago, IL USA)
Your really need a computer to set this thing up, especially if you're network is WEP-enabled. One thing the manual does not tell you is that you MUST connect the adapter directly to your wireless router via LAN cable in order to perform the intial configuration. Remember to do this first. Then run the setup utility on the cd included in the box. The rest is easy. Works great on my PS2. No problems whatsoever!
