DO NOT BUY, July 26, 2008
By LaLa K (Tustin, CA)
We purchased this item for the same reason as everyone else. If you can do it with less cables HOOAH! BUT.... it is another linksys disappointment. This is the third linksys product we have owned. Like the others, it drops 6-7 times a day. I contacted comcast about the issue and then told me to call linksys. Linksys stated it was comcasts fault. I spend 6 hours on the phone trying to resolve the issue. We have internet phone. When the modem drops so does the phone. Save your money. Don't buy it. It's only useful for adding to our nations landfills.

Works perfectly, July 23, 2008
By Hotglass (Omaha, Nebraska United States)
This unit solved all my problems. Now I was told that it was the only one that would work with Cox Cable and I didn't research that to see if that was true...but it has worked without a single problem. Consequently, I have been able to give my old modem and router to a family member so they didn't have to buy them now they are upgrading to high speed internet. However, they may want to go this route (pardon the pun) and if they do, I would recommend this unit. I have no idea why some people are having problems with it and some aren't. Seems to be the way of electronics these days.

stable and great value, July 14, 2008
By Crazy Glue (Chicago, IL, USA)
i have been using the wcg200 v2 for just under 2 1/2 years now. i find it easy to configure, stable, and a great value. i didn't want to mess with seperate router, modem, and switch power packs and the stack of boxes and this unit consolidated all of them.
i have comcast cable and have only had to power cycle the unit a few times each year, not much at all say maybe 3-4 times and it was as easy as removing the power cable going into the unit, waiting a few seconds and plugging it back in. i suspect the need for power cycling of the unit was due not to the stability of this unit but rather changes and downtime on comcast's side.
i have two minor issues with the wcg200. first, the wcg200 uses firmware that is not flashable (you can't upgrade it) and linksys provides no firmware updates for the unit. second, this is a really minor one but would have been nice to have this feature working, it is the System Up Time field under the status section on the main web page for the wcg200. The problem is that after 8 hours of uptime the unit resets the uptime to zero hours and begins counting again up to the 8 hour mark before reseting the counter again. This means it is impossible to track how many days or months the unit has been up for.
note also that any dropped connections are not always the result of the wcg200 unit but rather the wifi nic in the client systems. for example, for a long time i thought the wcg200 was causing my pc to loose wireless connectivity to the wcg200 and would power cycle the unit to fix the problem. however, over time i discovered it wasn't the wcg200 but rather the wifi network card i use. i use the linksys WUSB54G wifi adapter / NIC and it is responsible for frequently dropping the connection to the wcg200. i am now looking to replace the WUSB54G adapter with a Hawking HWU8DD adapter to solve this problem. so for anyone saying the wcg200 is no good, then check into the wireless adapter you are using with your pc as well as the reliability of your ISP before trashing the wcg200.

Solid Performer, July 6, 2008
By Craig Scudgington (South Carolina, USA)
When I recently moved from DSL to Cable I needed a new wireless router for my home. In researching the available products I settled on this one: Linksys Wireless-G Cable Gateway (WCG200). I have been very pleased with the ease of setup, range, functionality, and adaptability of this model and would highly recommend it for anyone who desires to go wireless with your home network and Cable Broadband service.

Unstable connection, July 2, 2008
By anthonioo (York, England)
I bought it because it's a wireless router & modem combo. Read the reviewers but still gave it a go. I truly regretted having bought it. It's not stable as a lot of other people have already mentioned. Don't buy it...

Works great but not necessarily with Comcast, June 12, 2008
By inkslinger (Boulder County, Colorado)
Previous to using this gateway, I had another Linksys router connected to a Motorola cable modem. After a couple of years, I began to have connection problems and was often forced to reset both of them, and eventually had to do this once a week. Tired of the cables and wires anyway, I decided to replace them with this model as it was on Comcast's approved list. It was very easy to connect and once I called Comcast and gave them the MAC address it was up and running. It didn't take long though to determine that there is an apparent firmware issue when using this model with Comcast service. Currently, some of the security and set-up functionality is disabled and Comcast will have rollback the firmware to enable these. Something I am not looking forward to calling them about strictly because of the difficulty working with their customer service in the past. Other than that though, it works great. I have three computers running on this without any problems (at least so far).

Not up to the standard expected, June 8, 2008
By JCextreme (AZ US)
This two-in-one combo unit was one of the few models that Cox HSI supported, which I thought would perfectly work well and save money. But after a few weeks of testing, this unit appears to have unreliable connection issues. It randomly resets then restarts, which explained by a Cox technician "known router issue". The configurations are standard linksys config, easy to access. The range was also pretty good. But if you're looking for a reliable modem, go for the Surfboard from motorola or a 2-piece set instead of this combo unit.

Linksys wireless cable gateway, June 6, 2008
By Tucker Robb
The product is a good router. It does lose signal sometimes and you have to go reset it to gain internet again, but for the most part I would reccommend it to others.

Nice product with easy setup. A little less wireless range than the previous Linksys router that I had but still satisfactory for my use.

By siva
This is a great product. Initially i bought airport express from apple and it worked for normal browsing and did not work fro VPN. I tried all my best to make it work with that but no luck, my friend suggested me this, this is unix based and really solid product in wirless modem category and works for all my needs.Strongly recommended this product.

Does Linksys even look at these reviews, May 25, 2008
By A. Iqbal
I have recently purchased one of these items without seeing the reviews. Wola, getting online with charter was not a problem, but dropping signals and rebooting twice within an hour seems to be part of owning this item. Other reviewers have put in ton more information that I can ever provide, but would not recommend spending the hard earned cash on this unit.

Works better than Version 1, May 22, 2008
By T. Denny
I bought the WCG200 wireless cable gateway as an upgrade to an older version (Version 1) of this same cable gateway. I did this to be able to utilize WPA security since Version 1 only supports WEP. I was a little leary of the fact that this newer version only has one antenna. The older version has two antennae and the signal strength was somewhat low in some areas of my home with the older version. My gateway is located on the second story of my home, I typically use my laptop on the first floor and sometimes in the basement as well.
I was very pleased to discover that this newer version even having only one antenna performs much better than the older version in all areas of my home. The signal strength was 40-70% with Version 1 and with Version 2 the signal strength is now 70-90%. Also with Version 1 the connection speed was usually between 24Mbs - 48Mbs (usually 36Mbs) on the first floor. Now with Version 2 it is almost always a full 54Mbs and rarely drops to 48Mbs.
I never experienced any of the drop-outs some other reviewers have reported (with either version), but I also don't have to deal with Comcast which I suspect is the true cause of most of those issues. All I had to do was inform my ISP of the new MAC address and in a few minutes the new modem was connected. I was contemplating getting the Motorola SBG900, but being familiar with the Linksys already I figured the WCG200 would be easier and I knew my ISP supported it.
I am very happy with it.

works great, easy set-up for a computer idiot, wish the manual was in print not on the disc; can't take notes on a disc!

Decent router/modem, but sometimes drops connection, April 4, 2008
By Basic Consumer
This product serves its purpose. It's not out of this world, but usable. The real negative is it drops unexpectedly every now and then, but I find if I turn it off and back on once a day or so, it helps. Range is decent for the price. Easy to setup and enable some security to prevent my neighbors from "borrowing" my wireless connection.

Best Cable Modem, March 25, 2008
By S. Shelton
I got this modem to have wired and wireless access and it is the best I've ever had. It was a quick and easy setup, even to create a secure wireless access.

So much better than my old Motarola Surfboard 4200, March 6, 2008
By S. Raj (ASHBURN, VA United States)
Connected the new deivce to the network last night. Worked great in the first try. (Had to spend 1 hour with Comcast techsupport to get the MAC address added on their switch.) With my Motarola SB4200 modem I was getting a maximum speed of 6 Mbps / 962 Kbps. After connecting WCG200, speed went up to 16 Mbps/ 1652 Kbps. So, far very satisfied.

Good integration idea with horrible implementation flaws, February 25, 2008
By K. VanderBeek (San Francisco, CA)
As a software engineer with a background in network administration, I must recommend against buying this product in its current incarnation (rev2). I attempted to set up my home network using this device twice (after an exchange). But this device not only under-performs, it is a menace. The following statements apply to both routers I used:
1) Sub-standard network reach: The WCG200 was unable to cover my small apartment with a usable signal. Other 802.11 products have no problem. 2) Interference: With wireless enabled, all my neighbors with wireless networks (on other channels) became unable to connect. This device seems to interfere with the entire 2.4Ghz spectrum. Other routers I have tried since then do not cause any problems for others. 3) Non-upgradeable: Unlike all other Linksys products I have owned, this device has no user interface section for uploading new firmware. Any bugs or defects you find may be permanent. 4) Easily crashed: Using TivoToGo and attempting to transfer a TV show from my TivoHD (wired) to my laptop (wireless) crashes/reboots the router within a few minutes. This is normal TCP/IP traffic and shouldn't happen. 5) Feature weak: The most trivial feature, MAC spoofing, available on most routers is not available here. This means a call to your cable provider to update their information. While not a deal-breaker, it is unusual to see this left out.
All in all, this is a product I cannot recommend that anyone buy. While some people have positive experiences, I had negative results from the two routers I attempted to use during Feb 2008.
Full disclosure: I work for a division of Linksys's parent company, Cisco.

By ronbo6170 (Jeffersonville, PA United States)
Do not buy this modem. Constantly drops the wireless connection. Read the other reviews about the connectivity problems.
