Gets sick, then dies., June 23, 2007
By Dean Smith (New York, NY)
Owned this unit for about one year. Frequently loses connection, and requires a restart/reset. A few days ago, even this failed to restore connection. Today, it died completely -- no little blue lights. Like most Linksys products I've bought, this is cheaply made, unreliable, cr*p.

Worst Networking Product I Have Ever Used, June 12, 2007
By caleb500 (St. Louis, MO)
I've used quite a few different networking products in my life and this is by far the worst. I've spent more than six hours trying to get the thing to work and have had no luck. I'm no stranger to home networking, having set up dozens of networks for myself, friends, and family. However, this utterly worthless product just won't work as promised. The auto-configuration is a joke. I run into constant errors in setup, and the only solution that I have found that almost worked was one that involved all kinds of plugging and unplugging of the device. Basically, a convoluted hack that took some poor soul hours of trial and error to figure out.
Save yourself the trouble. Don't buy this product.

Nice surprise (linda sorpresa), May 20, 2007
By Pablo (Montevideo, URUGUAY)
Do you want a review for those customers that speak spanish???? Was a wonderful suprise to discover that the expander is for 110V/240V because I live in Uruguay (South America) and here the electricity is 220V 50 Hz, and most of the USA products do not contemplate this situation.

This product works intermitently. Setup is a pain. I would NOT recommend.

Not Very Reliable Connection, May 16, 2007
By Michael R. Martin (Saranac Lake NY USA)
I found this unit to be constantly going "off-line," losing its synch with my main wireless access point. I got quite tired of resetting the unit. I don't recommend it.

Nice product., May 15, 2007
By Le professeur (Dallas, TX)
Works exactly as advertised. Be sure to buy a router that will work with it, though. It's specifically made for a couple Linksys routers.

1 to 54 Mbps, May 14, 2007
By Space Camel (Los Angeles, CA USA)
Worked for me! Had a computer that could sometimes detect the router at 1 Mbps. Plugged in the Expander and had it going at 54 Mbps. Had to try various locations to find the optimal place to plug it in.

Some Range expansion, May 14, 2007
By NWBeliever (NW)
Set up was easy, I had it installed in a very few minutes. A bit disappointing in that I was expecting more range. I was trying to improve internal range from our upper floor to the lower, as well as to an outbuilding located near. I had to play with the location to improve the internal reception, but even after moving the unit to an external area in a window facing the outbuilding, I receive only faint sporadic connection. Its probably worth the investment for the internal application, but am going to have to look into other antennae options to reach where I want. Funny since I live in a very rural area, with little to no interference or incumberances.

computer geeks sucks, May 13, 2007
By Michael D. Normington (Chicago, IL)
Bottom line: They sold it as new and sent me a repackaged item that was missing the power adapter. I hated dealing with them. I eventually got a refund but I will not deal with this seller again.

Works great... if you don't want security or support., May 13, 2007
By Robert C. Baruch (Maryland, USA)
The product worked great with my Linksys access point, as long as I disabled security, and who is dumb enough to do that? Enabling security apparently does not let the expander work. I searched the internet for instructions and followed them (didn't work). I called Linksys tech support. They were worse than useless. The manual is not helpful. And get this: some of the screens on the expander web config were in broken English! I expected far, far better from Linksys. Now where do I go for my network needs?

jumk, May 12, 2007
By Victor O. Schwarz
This item is a piece of junk and should never have been sold. It was old, out-of-date and did not work as advertised. I returned it for a replacement and another was sent that didn't work either. I received my money back. Computer Geeks were happy to refund.

I plugged the product in and it worked fine from the start. I have not had to do anything else.

Useless. Barely adds any range. Aweful setup tools. No signal meter., April 30, 2007
By Oliver Jakubiec (Los Angeles, CA)
Useless.
Once I got it to work, the range extended less than 50 feet!
The setup tools are painfully poor and you need to reset the thing way too often. Documentation it ships with are among the worst I have seen.
No signal meter. You cannot tell how far to place the device from your router because it has no signal meter built in. So if you can't tell what the wireless signal is, how can you tell where to put it? You can't use your laptop's signal meter because that really doesn't tell you anything about the extender's actual signal.
What an amazingly bad product...

Terrible!, April 26, 2007
By The Healer (Global)
I bought this unit in the hope of expanding the range of my home wifi system but the set up is just plain terrible! I gave it up kept it in storage. It is not user-friendly period!! I wish linksys would make something that would be a breeze to set up! They are here but linksys hasn't really arrived yet with range expanders!

Not very stable, April 24, 2007
By Lance A. Hobday (Little Rock, AR USA)
It could just be me, but I had a hard time keeping this thing connected to my wireless router. Sometimes it would work fine, then my PC would drop the connection and I had a hard time getting connected again. Usually I would have to power the range expander off and back on, then reboot my PC. Also the signal quality was not great. I purchased a laptop from Dell and it received the signal much stronger from anywhere in the house without the range expander than my PC did with it.

Excellent and Easy to Set Up, April 14, 2007
By O_man
I have a Netgear wireless router that can't cover the whole of my 2-floor house. I was worried that the Linksys product would have compatibility issues, but there were none.
A word of caution: Be sure to power up all your internet-connected peripherals (switch on that laptop) before you set up the Linksys Range Expander. I initially go an IP conflict error.
Set up is easy and while Linksys recommends physically attaching the Expander to the router via the supplied ethernet cable I just used it wirelessly near my deadspot.
The one notorious deadspot I bought this Expander for magically turned to "excellent".
What more could you want?

Works but wish it supported wireless N, April 2, 2007
By Part Time Geek
I tried wireless N adapter with the wireless N router but the signal was not strong enough for a connection. After getting very frustrated with several attempts to improve signal, I finally and as a last attempt tried this wireless expander. I placed it at the edge of the reception of my wireless routers range (about 200 feet) and placed it about 8 feet high from the floor. Voila! I got a 38% signal reading. I am approx 400 feet from the wireless router in the garage and there are 4 walls from the router to the garage. I gave 4 stars because; I wish it expanded the wireless N instead of the B and G which it does. My Linksys wireless N is backward compatible and broadcasts in B, G and N. Hope this helps.

Good product, March 22, 2007
By Gideon J. King
The drop point did what it was supposed to do, expand the network. So far I have not had to re-visit the expander. It just works

High failure rate, March 14, 2007
By S. MacDonald (Portland, OR)
I have other Linksys products. This is by far the worst. Wireless range not very good but the biggest problem is I've had 2 fail in 18 months. First a version 1 after about 8 months and now a version 2 (with ethernet port) after 3 months. Back on the phone to India.
