Description:
Includes: USB cable and Setup CD-ROM. Connect your USB-equipped desktop or notebook computer to a wireless network at incredible speeds with the Linksys Wireless-G USB Network Adapter with SpeedBooster. Using your high-speed USB 2.0 port, the Adapter delivers incredible data rates without the trouble of opening up the case of your computer.

The Wireless-G USB Network Adapter with SpeedBooster incorporates the next generation of Wireless-G. In standard Wireless-G (802.11g) mode, the USB Adapter can connect to wireless networks at an amazing 54Mbps. With our new SpeedBooster technology enabled, your "real-world" wireless network performance increases by up to 35%! Unlike other speed-enhancing technologies, SpeedBooster is 802.11 compliant, fully compatible with standard Wireless-G, and a "good neighbor" to other wireless devices and technologies, using a single 2.4GHz channel as specified by the official wireless standard. And with SpeedBooster you'll see an overall speed improvement even when running a mixed network of SpeedBooster and regular Wireless-G devices.

To install, simply plug the Adapter into any available USB port. (It's compatible with both USB 1.1 and 2.0 ports, but 2.0 will yield the fastest speeds.) It gets its power through the USB connection, so no power cord is necessary. The included Setup Wizard walks you through configuring the Adapter to your wireless network settings, step by step. The Adapter is also compatible with the Wireless-B (802.11b) network standard, with data rates up to 11Mbps. And your wireless communications can be protected by 128-bit encryption, so your data stays secure.

The high-gain antenna lets you put your computer almost anywhere in the building, without the cost and hassle of running cables. Now you don't have to drill holes in your walls and climb through the attic or cellar to get connected to the network. Once you're connected, you can keep in touch

Linksys Ony works with Linksys products, September 30, 2005
By Marty R. Stango (Dallas, TX)
This product failed to work with my motorola manufacturer Verizon supplied DSL modem. After discussion with several linksys "support" personnel one finaly admitted that Linksys products work best with Linksys and many times will NOT work with products manufacutred by others. I replaced this with a D-Link product and had no problems.

Thsi was the third Linksys wireless product that I have bought and had a failure with. The others were returned and replaced by Linksys, but it is clear that they have a "quality" problem.

Strike two by Linksys for me..., September 29, 2005
By AV8R (Alpharetta, GA)
I have two PCs off a WRT54GS router. I first purchased two PCI speedbooster cards. One works great under Win98. However, the other card would not work with XP in my other machine. The other I had to eBay for a $40 loss.

Someone in a tech forum said to try the USB adapter instead if running XP. Well I bought this device and it worked great for two months. Until one morning last week. When I booted up, the piece of #@$! wouldn't find an IP, and the link light was just blinking. No dice in the network config.

One day it was working perfectly, and the next day it wasn't. I still can't get it to work, either with the Linksys drivers (not recommended by many) OR by XP config. It works fine with my older WinME PIII 933 box like the PCI card. Looks like I'll have to eBay this thing as well for yet another $40 loss. NOT VERY HAPPY!

Right now I am dead in the water with that PC. Since Linksys obviously can't get their adapters to work stable with newer systems and operating systems, I'm switching to Belkin or D-Link. Linksys got the last of my money. If you have a newer system or have custom built a newer system like me or are running XP, beware!

Piece of junk that can't keep a connection, September 28, 2005
By T. Azizadah
I bought this piece of junk a week ago and all it ever does is drop the connection every 2-3 hours. I have had no luck with it under XP, whether using the Wireless Network Monitor software that comes with it or using XP Wireless configuration software. If you use the provided Linksys configuration software, not only does it still drop the connection, but it also locks up my computer to the point that CTRL-ALT-DEL won't even bring up the task manager and forces you to do a hard reset. I'm returning this piece of junk.

Stay away from it, August 23, 2005

I had both versions with and without speed booster. And both of them were working very unreliably. Slow transfer speeds and constant disconnects. I've to unplug it from USB port every 5-10 hours in order to reconnect. I already got rid of linksys router WRT54G (tried the new one SRX and it was a disaster) and moving to Belkin camp. I've had a Belkin Pre-N router for about a month and very happy with it.

Adapter works with some setup effort, August 6, 2005
By eau (USA)
It took me hours to finally get the Linksys WUSB54GS network adapter to work on a Win XP box with my Linksys WRT54GS router. The solution was to use the XP Wireless Zero configuration tool instead of the supplied Linksys Wireless Network Monitor!

I used the supplied driver installation CD-ROM v1.15 to install the drivers for the WUSB54GS, plug the adapter in and it was able to associate with the router but couldn't acquire an IP address. I had WPA-PSK + AES security turned on and SSID broadcast disabled. When I enabled SSID broadcast *OR* disabled WPA security, the adapter could connect and acquire an IP address. Go figure.

Finally, I switched to XP Wireless Zero Configuration. Bingo! The adapter was able to connect and acquire an IP address, with all the above security features still in place.

Apparently, the installation software v1.15 solved the "res.dll" error that people complained about in their reviews. If you can get the adapter working with the Linksys Wireless Network Monitor, great! Otherwise, give the Wireless Zero Configuration tool a try (of course if you are using Win XP).

The wireless connection seems to be relatively stable. It stays connected at 54Mbps most of the time. Occasionally it drops to 48Mbps or 36Mbps, but then manages to get back to 54Mbps. Signal strength stays around Very Good to Excellent (adapter is one floor above the router). Nevertheless, I occasionally get a lost packet when I do a ping but it's less than 1%, which doesn't seem to affect any network activities such as websurfing and transferring huge files though.

The best thing about this product is that I can individually cut the connection to the internet for my teens when they have not done what they should have done, and are spending too much time on the internet. I just unplug it and take it away.

Just doesn't work with some PCs, June 20, 2005
By Michael Borella (Naperville, IL USA)
I tried to get this adapter working with my WinXP box and no luck. I upgraded the drivers, tried various configurations, read online advice, and it would still drop the wireless connection after about a minute. Then I tried a D-Link DWL-G122 on the same PC and bingo, up and running in no time and no problems so far. Linksys may make pretty good routers, but this device is just plain clunky and has serious design issues.

    Great device., May 12, 2005
By N. Santos (USA)
I am using a wrt54gs as the wireless router. I was able to run a backup of my laptop, which has the wusb54gs, to the desktop. It was 23 Gig and then did a verification pass. It ran flawlessly. No disconnects. Had trouble setting up the WAP AES security, until I understood that you have to use Windows to configure the wireless settings, instead of the link monitor. The company LINKSYS was taken over by Cisco Systems, which has always been at the forefront of routing technology.

    can't find res_dll problem., January 25, 2005
By Olga Telitsyna
Sure it's problem of there software whatever they telling us. If you tired of this message and want to run linksys's Wireless Network Monitor you should download driver for this device from Linksys cite, unzip it (run exe file), find Wlan.ini in directory C:\Linksys Driver\WUSB54GS_09012004 and add in the end of it:

[GemtekLoadResDLL]
LangResID=1
ResFile="resWusb54GS_US.dll"

Then run setup from the same dir to install new driver with correct settings for res_dll (do not forget to uninstall existing version of driver).

This device does not work., December 24, 2004
By G. Leonard (USA)
I got this on 12/20/04 and installed it on a Windows 2000 Pro. Every time a user logs out you get a loud ding sound (typically this indicates an error just occurred). I suspect the device goes inactive when you log out thus gets the typical warning from Windows not to pull the device out but to use the Remove Hardware manager. A few times when I log back in I can get a Dr. Watson pop-up window (examining the application log you get error messages like C0000005:004EA0CC). After awhile the device would not work - forcing you to reboot your PC. A simple Google search you'll see this device clearly has problems. I've been working with computers professionally for about 20 years and I can resolve a lot of issues, maybe a lot of issue will be fixed later. I however need a working product today.

Doesn't work very well for Windows XP, December 7, 2004
By Unsatisfied user (MI, USA)
I just got this thing today. One thing that I liked about it is its size. It's really small and can easily sit on the desk without taking up too much space.

Now, I am running Windows XP Professional. When I installed the software, there was an error message at the end of the installation... I forgot what it was. Then everytime when I boot up my PC, the device stays inactive. The power LED is on, but the LINK light doesn't light up nor blink. I have to unplug the device and plug it back in so that it becomes "active". The device will not detect or connect to the default wireless network that I set on every bootup. I have to unplug and plug the thing in, then manually scan for all available networks around and select the network I want to connect to manually EVERY SINGLE TIME! It's annoying!!!! But, when it is connected, it stays connected very well. There will be slight fluctuations in signal strength, but is bearable. This product is still pretty new and has got real problems! I hope the people at Linksys will fix these problems immediately and provide users with new firmware upgrades. Till then, this product is getting a 1 star rating from me.

The adapter works fine on Win XP.
When installed on another system, such as win 2003, the Wireless Network Monitoring software will not work, which will give the "Cannot Load Res_dll" error message.

The adapter itself works fine on Win 2003, you need only to bear that sticky message that keep coming up every 10 seconds, or you can leave it on the desktop and ignore it.

Linksys, please make a update to the driver for users of newer editions of windows, thanks.

    Can't load Res_dll, November 13, 2004
By Linksys junkie (Terre Haute, IN)
When you install the software that comes with this adapter on a windows system, an error message will pop up and stay up saying: Can't load Res_dll. I called Linksys customer service (they answered from the Philippines), who said that it is not a linksys problem, but a windows problem. When you go to Microfot's web site, a single page related to the error message comes up, but has zero help value.
The adapter will work, but a small error message will stay on your desktop all the time. If you close it, it will pop up again in exactly 10 seconds, and will stay there.
Hopefully Linksys and Cisco will take care of this problem before Christmas 2006.

I lost my time with it, November 10, 2004
By Eduardo V. V. Montes (Chapel Hill, NC USA)
I tried to install it in my notebook (Windows 2000 Server) and I had an error (Can't load res_dll).
When I tried to install it in my desktop (Windows 2000 Professional) I had memory conflict.

I paid for being an Early Adopter. I'm not going to repeat this mistake again.

I hope I'll help someone with my review.
