Excellent range with long antenna. It crashed my system after loading, however after moving to another pci slot, worked perfect. Recommend highly. Turned a low signal area with dlink card to excellent signal.

By Juan Carlos Chang (panama city)
i was using before other wireless card brand and let me tell you that the linkys is the most reliable product. easy configuration, good signal, works wonderfully. for better performance and compatibility is better to use the same brand if you wanna work with wireless.

Out of box Ubuntu support, February 8, 2006
By George Elkins (Bernardsville, NJ)
I'm running Ubuntu 5.10 on a Dell Optiplex GX150. The WMP54G card was recognized as ra0 and started working after WAP details were input, with no updated drivers or changes required. I configured, activated and set ra0 as default gateway, from the wireless admin tool (no command-line required). I'm using it with a WAP54G access point.
(Don't bother with the included CD and directions, which are intended for Windows.)

Good preformance, February 1, 2006
By Kevin (Rexburg, ID USA)
easy to install, gets a good signal, but I recommend disabling the Linksys network monitoring tool, jus use the one from Microsoft, it works with less problems. make sure the driver is updated too. never trust the out of the box CD drivers (they are usually out of date) go ahead and install using the CD, but then get the update ASAP to avoid problems.

Best Buy, January 11, 2006
By Chewbacca (Minneapolis, MN)
Installation of this PCI card, from installing the software to installing the card, was a quick and easy taking only twenty minutes. The card has worked amazingly well with no lagtime. There is not even any lagtime between when my computer wakes up from hibernation to when I can get online. It should be noted though that my entire wireless network consists of linksys products which may have a little to do with ease of connectivity once the hardware and software have been installed.

Less than a month.. and it stopped working!!!, December 21, 2005
By Sharif Ebrahim (Bahrain, Middle East)
I have purchased Linksys WMP54G Wireless-G PCI Adapter along with the Wireless G router with speed booster. A small annoyance happens with this adapter whenever I come from "hibernation state" back to "on-state" no internet connection is possible even though the wireless LAN works. I discovered that I have to renter the password to enter the encrypted network, after that the adapter will allow me to access the internet. That was acceptable for me, since I used my Desktop computer occasionally and relied mostly on my laptop for wireless connection.
Believe it or not, from my occasional use (about 20 times) of my Desktop computer the adaptor STOPPED WORKING in less than a month!!! I tried everything from removing the adapter and putting it back, to trying to fix it from the software level. Sadly, the adapter seems to have died.
I gave it one star because of the unreliability issue with the Wireless-G Adapter, and not being to the level of quality as the "Wireless-G router with speed booster" which is still up and running and works fine with my laptop.

Quick Installation and Easy Setup, December 16, 2005
By M. Prindle (South Texas)
I purchased the WMP54G as a replacement card for my existing SMC that died a slow painful death, well for me. I followed the instructions and installed the software first under XP SP2. Once I got the software installed it instructed me to shutdown my computer and install the card. It was simple to get the card installed and the machine back up. The only minor bug that happened was when XP was installing the drivers for the card, the monitor app faulted a few times until XP was finished.
So far all seems to be well, but the speed does seem a little slow. I ran a report on DSL reports and it shows my d/l speed to be around 600k vs when my SMC was working it would hit 1.5 Meg Plus. I am using an SMC router also, so this could be part of the issue.
Update:
I just noticed that in the utility window it was showing the receive rate as 24Mbps. I checked the router and it was set to Auto. I changed it to force it to 48Mbps and it made a large difference in the speed.
Also as a side note. I love all the info that the utility window gives on the status of the link.

Works Perfectly - Follow the instructions, November 5, 2005
By Kenny
I installed my new Linksys WMP54G in about 10 minutes time. It works perfectly. When I opened the box, there were different sets of instructions, for each different type of Operating System. I picked up the Instructions for Windows XP. Depending on what version of Windows you are running, you will either install the software first, or the hardware first. It's in the directions! The XP directions called for me to 1) Power Off 2) Insert the card and 3)Power on the computer, and THEN insert the CD software. In ten minutes it was running!
The only problem I had was that I had to swtich the slot that the network card was installed in, because my tower did not like the first slot I choose. This was no fault of the Linksys card.
I plan to order up three more of these for my other computers, and ditch the cables!

Good product, October 19, 2005
By Joseph Perez (Brooklyn, NY USA)
Easy to install...when you follow the directions. You MUST install the software first, and then install the card. When you open the box, there is enough documentation to alert you to do so. It is really hard to screw up this installation.
I was expecting a better connection than what it gets. I get a good connection from the computer I installed it in. The machine is on the second floor of my home, and the router is on the first floor. I was expecting a better connection, but overall, it suits my needs. Would definitely recommend it for the price. This card costs double in other retail outlets.

Not working so good for me., September 18, 2005
By davidky10 (Lexington, Ky United States)
I just installed this card in my pc. It's a PIII 1 gig with 256 megs of ram. I have it set up to dual boot with win 2k pro and win 98 SE.
I first tried to set it up under win 2k. It recognizes the card fine, and says it is working properly. However, the linksys utility will not run for some reason, so I cannot configure it for my network. The utility does not come up when I boot, and when I try to manually run it, I get nothing (no error messages or anything) it just won't run.
Then I booted it up with win 98 and installed it, and everything seems to work fine. This is on the same pc with the same hardware configuration.

great product by linksys, September 10, 2005
By Never argue with an idiot. they drop you to their level and beat you with experience! (texas, usa)
This is an EXCELLENT product. I recently decided to share my wireless iwth my neighbor and we looked at getting a wireless extender (or repeater as most IT people know it as). I decided to replace all of my netowrk with linksys wireless - G products. I could not be happier. I have used netgear wireless, Belkin, Dell (when they were in the wireless business), and Proxim. By far this was the easiest wireless network to setup. The only reason I do not give it 5 stars is that i do NOT like the one-touch programming option. it's just confusing. Give me a web interface and let's do it the old fashioned way... that way I know what I have. This isn't a knock on this product, but more a knock on the router!

MY ANTENNA FELL OFF!, August 17, 2005
By R. HECTOR (Vermilion, OH USA)
This product has the worst antenna connection I have ever seen. Just look at the reviews, many claim their antenna fell off and that they had to return it. Mine fell off, but I grabbed a pair of pliars and squeezed the little connector back into the card, then screwed the antenna back on. I hope it holds, cause if it falls off again, you have to take the whole card out to fix it and that is such a pain.

A decent wireless card, August 11, 2005
By Nathan Stewart (Dardenne Prairie, MO USA)
I installed the Linksys card into my Dell Dimension desktop and was able to quickly connect to my wireless LAN. My only problem is that it never maintains a strong connection. The built in wireless (Cisco 1350) in my Latitude notebook has no problems with signal strength and can pick up the same signal from well over twice the distance away as the PCI card. Overall, I am please with the purchase and would recommend it as a good cost-effective wireless investment.

Linksys WMP54G, August 2, 2005
By BK (MD)
This is the 3rd linksys wireless PCI card I have purchased (2 of which are this model, the WMP54G). I have gotten tremendous reception on both (one is on my desktop on the 2nd floor of my house and this latest one is on a desktop in my basement... the access point is on the 1st level of our house.

Great Product for windows XP, July 30, 2005
By Dustin Franz (Waco, TX United States)
I recently installed this wireless adapter on my AMD system with Windows XP to replace a new Netgear wireless card that would not work. This card is super easy to install! Just put the card in a pci slot, turn on the computer, and install the drivers included on a cd, and your done (at least with Win XP, there is separate installation instructions for other operating systems). It took me under 10 minutes to get on the internet.
I have not had one disconnect or any type of problem from this card. It is very fast and was a bargain for 40 bucks after mail in rebates. One thing I love about this wireless card is that it has an over-sized antenna. It is about twice the size of my Netgear wireless card and its gets a lot better reception than that card. It looks like this card may have problems on other operating systems, but I can attest that it works great on Win XP.

Software Uninstall Requires Professional Help!, July 17, 2005
By Biofile (NY)
If for any reason the user would like to uninstall the admin and driver software (Install Software from product CD) that which supports Linksys G series products, it would be beyond a simple wizard uninstall. That is, in some cases, the user may require skills editing the Windows Registry (it's very dangerous to delete Windows registry keys and values).

Solid, April 28, 2005
By Mark Twain (Nevada)
This card works solidly if you use the linksys software to manage the card... 3 weeks so far and it hasn't dropped me once. I tried using the windows wireless zero service to manage the card and it dropped connection every few minutes... just disable wireless zero and go for the linksys software. Also I'm running 128 bit WEP and no problems... I've heard WPA has problems... simple... don't run WPA... throughput hasn't been as advertised, but that doesn't bother me too much... I'm used to not getting what is advertised.

Works wonderfully so far!, April 6, 2005
By lutgo (Los Angeles, CA)
Given some of the earlier reviews, I was somewhat apprehensive about buying this PCI adapter, especially since I have a dinosaur of a computer that runs Windows 98 SE. I am so glad I made this purchase! It was very easy to set up with my router (Linksys Compact Wireless-G Broadband), and the Internet connection works far faster than it ever did wired.
