| Description: |
| LINKSYS WPC54G - Wireless-G is the emerging 54 Mbps wireless networking standard that's almost five times faster than the widely deployed Wireless-B ( 802.11b ) products found in homes, businesses and public wireless hotspots around the country. The best part is, since they share the same 2.4GHz radio band, Wireless-G devices talk to existing 11 Mbps Wireless-B equipment. |

802.11G Flat, July 17, 2008
By user (San Diego, CA USA)
I was looking forward to faster wireless in my home than my older 802.11B card gave me. This card was a severe disappointment. It has far less sensitivity in picking up the signal than my 802.11B card has and often times will not connect at all even though the notebok it is in stays in one location. I have reverted to my old B card for faster and more consistent response.

great alternative, June 16, 2008
By user (Baltimore, MD)
when my internal wireless card died, this was a good alternative. After some technical quirks with my home network, my husband and I were able to get it to work. Only drawback is that I need to have my laptop plugged in to the wall socket for the card to access the internet.

VERY DISAPPOINTED, June 12, 2008
By user (Clearwater, FL United States)
I bought this LINKSYS Wireless Adapter against my better judgment, knowing that two other LINKSYS items I had purchased prematurely failed. Well, this one (supposedly new) did not even work straight out of the box. Three strikes and you're out! NO MORE LINKSYS anything for me!! I went with another cheaper brand that works like a champ!

Software isn't very good and tech support sucks and can't put laptop on standby., May 25, 2008
By user
The instructions that came with it were terrible and tech support is in India and they don't really know what they are talking about. Plus, my laptop is UNABLE to enter standby mode with this adapter plugged in. I have to pull it out each time I set my laptop on standby or the laptop will freeze

A very difficult company to deal with, May 6, 2008
By user (Weehawken, New Jersey United States)
This is a bad company. I purchased a wireless router from them and, truth be told, it never really worked right. The speed was ok, but it was impossible to set up without tech support and every so often it would simply stop working. When that happened I would be forced to call tech support and spend 30-60 minutes on the phone fighting with them about resetting the router. I recently purchased a new computer and decided to save a little money by moving this router to it. When I called tech support I was told that the router was out of its warranty period and they could not help me... unless I would pay them to. That's right, I would have to pay for the assistance on their product - a working product because it was not under warranty.
So be warned that you are only buying the option to use Linksys' products for a limited time - that is if you have any problems whatsoever that require tech support. I am now trying a Trendnet. Let's see if they are any better.

Works in Mac Powerbook G4, March 31, 2008
By user (Plano, Il. USA)
Linksys wpc54g works in my power book G4 (DIV) as an airport card. It was not detected right away, but after going to System Preferences, Network and then selecting network status, a prompt popped up and told my that it had found an airport device and asked if I wanted to trn it on. I then chose my network, entered the WEP key when prompted and connected without a problem. I have a Linksis Router as well. It does work in a Mac Powerbook (titanium DIV) G4.

Introduction to Wireless Networking, March 29, 2008
By user (Bronx, NY)
Linksys WPC54G-WB Wireless-G Notebook Adapter White BoxHad received a Laptop computer as a gift. Being new to networking, I didn't have a clue to what should be done. However, was able to set up desktop and laptop by adding this product. I am enjoying the accessibility. Would recommend Linksys products as I also had purchased a wireless router prior to the purchase of the adapter in order to set up my network system.

Another Linksys Quality Product, February 9, 2008
By user (Lowell, MA)
I have used/serviced several different brands of network equipment over the years, and the Linksys products are by far the best in the home sector. The cards have all the latest security features (WPA2-AES), and top speeds (54Mbps). True, you can get their GS-series 108Mbps SpeedBooster card; but you'll also need a GS router and have all GS equipment on the network. If you have one system with a non-GS wireless card (like most found built-in on laptops), SpeedBooster gets disabled for compatibility. These non-GS cards are really your best (and cheaper) bet.
I picked up two of these for my parents' older laptops once they got a DSL package that included a free wireless router. I wanted a "set it and forget it" product that wouldn't be hard for them to use. No problem for these cards. My Dad takes his out when not needing the network or Internet to save on battery life. When he does need a connection, he just pops it in and in seconds he's on-line. Can't get easier than that!

Linksys wireless-G notebook adapter, January 19, 2008
By user (Montana)
Dell steered me wrong on this one. My computer takes an express card instead of this one. I had opened the package and tried to insert in slot so I could not return it. No knowledge of how good it works. Anybody want to buy this at my loss?

difficult to set up, November 21, 2007
By user (Felton, CA., USA)
We used this product on a Sony Vaio running Win2000. It was very difficult to set up and took several calls to lynksys support and several days out of our lives. Their support is good and I can see why, their products are hard to get working and without great support they would be lost.
As it turns out this unit won't even run with the software that comes with it in our Vaio anyway and a support person on the phone instructed us on how to download boingo and use that to run it. Not all the support people know this fix.
The notebook adapter worked fine once set up with boingo but what kind of an outfit sells you a product that won't even work with their own software and requires boingo?
May never buy another cisco product.

Lots of problems, do not try, November 6, 2007
By user (San Jose, CA United States)
It connects for a while, and when I change the encryption, it becomes very spotty. I try using the repair function under windows, it will fix it if you are connect to the LAN cable. The connection will fail after a while you disconnect the LAN cable. Conflicts with the Windows wireless connection.
Very unrealiable.

Linksys WPC54G Wireless-G Notebook Adapter, August 25, 2007
By user (Chicago)
Everything they said it would be. I knew that because I saw people using it at the cafe. I wish it did not stick out of the computer, but then I never would have noticed others were able to do more than I could if I had not seen it sticking out of their computer.

Does not work with Linux, July 21, 2007
By user
I bought this card to work with my Linux laptop. It does not come with Linux driver and it is not easy to make it work with Linux but possible. If I had to buy another card I would buy some other more Linux friendly vendor.
