Description:
The Linksys Wireless-G Home Router is really three devices in one box. First, there's the Wireless Access Point, which lets you connect both screaming fast Wireless-G (802.11g at 54Mbps) and Wireless-B (802.11b at 11Mbps) devices to the network. There's also a built-in 4-port full-duplex 10/100 Switch to connect your wired-Ethernet devices together. Connect four PCs directly, or attach more hubs and switches to create as big a network as you need. Finally, the Router function ties it all together and lets your whole network share a high-speed cable or DSL Internet connection.Once your computers are connected to the Router and the Internet, they can communicate with each other too, sharing resources and files. All your computers can print on a shared printer connected anywhere in the house. And your computers can share all kinds of files - music, digital pictures, and documents. Keep all your digital music on one computer, and listen to it anywhere in the house. Organize all of your family's digital pictures in one place, to simplify finding the ones you want, and easing backup to CD-R. Utilize extra free space on one computer when another's hard drive starts to fill up.Wi-Fi Protected Access 2 (WPA2) protects your data and privacy with up to 128-bit industrial-strength encryption. The Router can serve as a DHCP Server, has a powerful SPI firewall to protect your PCs against intruders and most known Internet attacks, supports VPN pass-through, and can be configured to filter internal users' access to the Internet. Advanced configuration is a snap with the web browser-based interface. With the Linksys Wireless-G Home Router at the center of your home or office network, you can share a high-speed Internet connection, files, printers, and multi-player games with flexibility, speed, security and simplicity!

Mine lasted exactly 3 months before dying, February 25, 2008
By user (North Hollywood, CA United States)
I bought this in late November from another retailer and it worked just fine for 3 months. The other day, we realized that we didn't have an internet connection on our laptop, which is about 20 feet away from the router. My fiance went online, searched FAQ, initiated troubleshooting "chats" with tech support for several hours... to no avail. We can't get it work again, no matter what we try.

We only bought this model because it was on sale with a $15 rebate - but our rebate was rejected because supposedly we didn't include the original UPC code, which is nonsense. Very unsatisfied with everything about this purchase, from the rejected rebate to the ineffective tech support we received. Will never buy a Linksys item again.

The product was received just in time. I had no prblem setting the router up. The router interface was pretty simple to understand. The service works very well outside and inside the house no complains from me yet. The size is very well recomended.

Linksys WRH54G Wireless-G Home Router
Can't believe I bought this. I followed the instructions to the letter, configured all my settings and security, connected and all the lights were on, but the Internet connection never made it past the router. Plan to sell it on Ebay or to someone with more time to figure out it's "uniqueness". I suggest avoiding this model.

So far, so good, January 15, 2008

I bought this router a month ago to enable wireless access to TiVo updates and transfers. I had planned to buy a Linksys WRT54G, but this was on sale at a close-out and I took a chance. So far, my experience has been very good. I had no trouble installing and setting up the router, and the configuration software was fairly easy to use. I haven't had any problems with dropped connections or poor throughput yet; my TiVo consistently reports a connection of 90% or better. I still plan to get the WRT54G eventually so I can unleash it with DD-WRT firmware, but I'll hold off while this router holds up. If my positive experience also holds up, I'll upgrade my rating to 5 stars.

This router lasted me less than 15 days, November 25, 2007
By user (Austin, Texas, USA)
I bought this on the 10th of November and returned it today the 25th of November. It quit working sometime last week around the time my wife mentioned she smelled a burning smell in the room where it was located. I didn't use it every day, but on and off throughout the week. Each time (2-3) I wanted to connect with my MacBook, I had to powercycle it before I could get connected. The lights would blink in strange patterns. Finally, it got to the point that powercycling it was not enough. I thought that perhaps it was overheating and the I should unplug it and disconnect the wall transformer and let it all cool down, but that didn't help. It got to the point where it would just light up all four ethernet LEDs and the Internet LED and that was it. I tried resetting it serveral times with the red reset button on the back to no avail. Perhaps I got a dud, but a sales guy at a local electronics retailer said they would not be restocking them and that it was originally for sale in India. (Not that those folks deserve poor hardware, but I believe his point was that it was made cheaply or that it had a bad rap and they were just dumping them wherever.) He also said they just got one shipment of them and that would be their last and that I wasn't the first person he heard of having problems with it. I replaced it with a D-Link DIR-615. I recommend avoiding this device.

Keeps dropping connections, November 24, 2007
By user (California, USA)
I installed this router yesterday and have been regretting my decision of buying it ever since. It keeps on dropping connections every 2-3 minutes which drives me crazy. The signal strength is always low even though the router is placed about 3 feet away from my laptop. I tried all possible settings and still couldn't get it to work properly. Previously I owned a D-Link wireless router which worked perfectly, but it stopped working after a year after which I made the mistake of buying this Linksys router. Please make sure you ask other people how this router works for them before you plan on buying it.
