Description:
The Wireless-N Gigabit Gaming Router is really four devices in one box. First, there's the Wireless Access Point, which lets you connect to the network without wires. There's also a built-in 4-port full-duplex 10/100/1000 Switch to connect your wired-Ethernet devices together at up to gigabit speeds. The Router function ties it all together and lets your whole network share a high-speed cable or DSL Internet connection. We've also included a Network Optimizer that applies various Quality of Service (QoS) techniques to your network traffic to make sure that time-sensitive applications like online and local network gaming run smoothly. It automatically determines what data is time-sensitive and what isn't, and prioritizes delivery of that data to its destination, ensuring the best-possible performance for the various types of data that go through your network. The Access Point built into the Router uses the very latest wireless networking technology, Wireless-N (draft 802.11n). By overlaying the signals of multiple radios, Wireless-N's "Multiple In, Multiple Out" (MIMO) technology multiplies the effective data rate. Unlike ordinary wireless networking technologies that are confused by signal reflections, MIMO actually uses these reflections to increase the range and reduce "dead spots" in the wireless coverage area. The robust signal travels farther, maintaining wireless connections up to 4 times farther than standard Wireless-G.With Wireless-N, the farther away you are, the more speed advantage you get. It works great with standard Wireless-G and -B equipment, but when both ends of the wireless link are Wireless-N, the router can increase the throughput even more by using twice as much radio band, yielding speeds up to 12 times as fast as standard Wireless-G.

Not worth the price, August 5, 2008

I've had this router for about 9 months now and it works great with my XBOX 360 using a wired connection. However, I upgraded from the Linksys WRT54GS Wireless-G Broadband Router with SpeedBooster and don't notice any significant speed or signal strength improvements that justify the $200 price tag. Now I'm looking at "upgrading" to another router...and will likely go with the D-Link DGL-4500 Xtreme N Dualband Draft 802.11n Gaming Router instead.

This router worked really well for quite some time. The wireless strengths is admirable and virtually the same speed as the wired connection. It worked well for a year and a half, but now has some serious problems. I've checked out everything else in the "picture" of my network and I am 100% certain that 1) The router is slowing my internet connection by 60%, seemingly capping downstream at 5000kbps. Plugged into the cable modem, itself, flawless 15000kbps connection. 2) A dozen daily short disconnects caused by my printer being connected via ethernet, removing it solved the problem. 3) Unable to even upgrade the firmware anymore, as the page will allow me to select the file but responds with absolutely nothing. So basically, my router is completely failing at it's job. Now I'm still within the replacement window, but this is not exactly the most comfortable situation to be in - How long is this going to take, and how long is the rest of my family besides me not going to be able to use the internet? So now on top of my connection woes, my family is gonna have to go a week or two without internet. I'm not too happy with this device, which is certainly more expensive than other routers, failing in less than two years. It's just not right, so 3 stars. That, and their tech-support is horrible. They don't even have this router anymore, and when the router they told me they'd replace it with was a WRT310N, a router worth $60 less than the price I paid for the WRT330N and no external antenna. I got pissed and demanded a choice in the matter if I'm going to be "downgraded", and made sure to tell them I wanted a WRT54GL instead, as I know the custom firmware will do its job and give me a good router. Look elsewhere..

    Great router, July 22, 2008

I wanted a draft N router to upgrade my "G" network, but it took me a while to take action. This was mainly due to the reviews the Linksys routers were getting. I had Linksys and wanted to keep within the brand, since my experience with it has always been a good one. Finally, I decided to make the switch and chose the gaming one because of the Gigabit connection. At that time (a year ago,) I didn't think the data-lynk version was a better choice. Today, I think I would go that route instead.

The installation was easy and quick; basically, similar to the one I performed on the old Linksys G router. The network was up and running without any problems. My laptop has an Intel N card and connected with no problem. It actually has a faster connection wirelessly than with the Ethernet card (10/100.)

I'm very happy with the purchase, and once resolved the problems of the kids' computer connection (which ended up with a Linksys WUSB300N Wireless-N USB Network Adapter,) the network has worked with no problems at all for the last 14 months.

The only good thing I got for waiting was a better price, since it dropped a little when I bought it. But I have to say, I recommend this product without hesitation. My next router will be a Linksys N draft with VPN.

Best Router so far, July 19, 2008
By user (Rincon, Puerto Rico)
Ive had a number of routers including netgear and dlink and other models of linksys, this one is by far the fastest and best quality router ive had, the only thing i wish i could do is have the ability to put on an omni directional antenna to boost the signal to cover my entire house (3 floors) with full bars, but for the money this is by far the BEST router around.

    Great Stability & Range, June 17, 2008

Got this router to replace my wireless-G router along, with a Linksys Draft-N Bridge. Both work excellently and increased my wireless range and throughput considerably. Setup was easy and it works great for gaming networks. Didn't have to set up any special port permissions, as I had to do with my previous wireless G Linksys router. Highly recommended.

Arrived quickly. Set up went extremely quickly and smoothly. Utility to perform setup was without any problems and had everything up and running far quicker than any previous hardware. Works very well. We'll now see how it operates over time and hopefully I will continue to be pleased with how it operates or deals with power loss.

I hesitated to buy this router b/c of a some negative reviews early in the product's release. But, the reviews from teh other companies' products were even worse! I have always used Linksys routers, so I decided to stay with them, and I am glad I did. The setup was the easiest ever for a wireless router, and I was set up in about 5 minutes and playing online on my PS3. I'm not a big computer nerd, so I don't know about speeds, etc, but I have never had a problem speedwise w/ the PS3 or my laptop. Would definitely recommend this router.

Works great for us. We can game on one pc and download videos on another, with the signal having to go through walls and floors, without any problems. Setup worked right out of the box and optional security settings were easy to figure out. We tried Belkin's N router and it was a nightmare from the moment we plugged it in....and Belkin had the worst tech support I've ever encountered! (not sure about Linksys support since everything has worked for a year without issue)

    Outstanding Wireless-N Router, March 28, 2008
By user (Sioux Falls, SD)
After purchasing a new decked out Dell Inspiron 1720 with a built in Wireless-N card, I was disappointed with my internet speed when I was in some of the rooms in my house. My kitchen is on the other side of a large brick wall/fireplace from where my router is set up. My Linksys Wireless-G would allow me download at 5000Kb when I was in the same room as my router, but only about 25Kb when in my kitchen. I upgraded to the WRT330N and I am downloading at 7500Kb from my kitchen. Very nice.

    Buggy - Don't Recommend, March 18, 2008
By user (California)
The WRT330N is a bit buggy, so until Linksys can fix the kinks with a firmware update, I wouldn't recommend buying it (or maybe it cannot be fixed and it is just a pretty piece of black plastic). The first unit I had would turn off the wireless broadcast at least once a day (even though the wireless indicator light was on), so none of my computers (some with wireless G, some with wireless N) could detect the SSID. The only way to get it back up was to unplug it to reset the router. As you can imagine, doing this on a daily basis was a bit frustrating. Called Linksys customer service and they go through the same routine with all their products, i.e., what is your operating system, unplug the router, wait 15 seconds, turn it back on, etc. etc. After 45 minutes on the phone going through their scripted and mindless "tech support" methodology, they decided, I had a defective unit and issued me an RMA for a replacement unit, which they put a credit card hold for and when I received it, turned out to be a refurbished unit from some other unlucky customer. While the replacement unit doesn't drop the wireless signal, it emits a rather weak G signal, so that all my computers with a wireless G gets a "low" signal and only transmits at a putrid 24 to 36 mbps (even when i am 10-15 feet from the router). I had more reliable and stronger wireless signals with my old WRT54G router. Linksys probably released this unit sooner than they should have to capitalize on those of us who wanted the wireless N protocol.

Durable, fast, and highly configurable, March 14, 2008
By user (Seattle)
I picked the WRT330N up as a replacement for the two separate components it unifies: a gigabit router and a wireless gateway. I am not using 802.11n yet, but intend to upgrade to it when convenient.

I've found the unit to be durable (it's within reach of multiple toddlers all day long), performant (I get good signal even through walls... a serious improvement over previous G and B access points), and easily configured.

One physical drawback to the device is that it has a huge Isolate button on the front. Not so great if your kids can reach it :-)

It came with a scratch. Media server not compatible with ps3 or xbox. Otherwise AWESOME! Online gaming is way better.

Half-baked router. Returned to Amazon, February 18, 2008
By user
This router might work well for some people, but I was not one of them. It is in serious need of a firmware update. Out of the box, it was constantly dropping connections. After an hour of Google searches, it turns out the wireless default settings need to be changed to prevent dropped connections. OK, fine. Once I had a stable connection, I was looking forward to great speeds from my desktop machine (outfitted with a Linksys WMP300N card). Nope, I saw no range or speed improvement with this router. In fact, I was getting better performance from my old Actiontec 802.11g router. I played for a few more hours with settings to no avail. The final straw was when I was using the web-based configuration and all of the settings suddenly disappeared. Not reset to defaults, but really gone. Every setting was blank. The only way to get it back to normal was to hard-reset the router back to factory defaults. That was it for me. Back in the box on its way back for a refund. I'll be going with a D-Link router instead.

Replaced my faithfull WRT54G with this baby.I am running 2 PC's 3 Laptops
a Playstation 3 and an XBOX 360.Signal strength is excellent.Set up is breeze.I had everything up and running in 20 minutes. My only caveat is to download the latest firmware immediately.I don't understand the negatives
given this product. When I first went wireless I bought a D-Link and after many days of frustration and tech support I gave it to my nephew(who has a degree in computer science) I then purchased a Linksys and have never looked back!!!

Wireless-N (draft) is still draft (read not working), February 11, 2008

I just purchased a new Dell XPS1530 laptop including the latest Intel wireless-N internal card (as of Feb 2008). I wanted to upgrade from my Linksys wireless-AG router and this looked like the best wireless-N router available. First off, it would not connect on N with WEP security option. I got it to work with the less secure "personal" security options. The network status reported 130Mbps connection and I was getting 6 - 8 MB per second on network file transfers. This is fast, but I was three feet from the router. When I moved to 15 feet away or downstairs (10 feet if you ignore the floor), I would get at best 2 MB per second and on occasions 300 - 500 K per second. The network status would often report the speed to be 130Mbps but transfer files at really slow speeds. Sometimes the network status would jump around from 130Mbps to 54Mbps or even less once or twice. I ignore the network status because it does not reflect the realized transfer speeds. I was getting a mostly reliable 1 MB per second.

I put by Linksys wireless-AG back on and got a VERY constant and reliable 2 - 3 MB per second transfers and almost never below 1MB per second. With my wireless G, I was/am able to stream a high quality (8Mbps) DVD movie from my PC upstairs to my Laptop and TV downstairs without ever (so far) getting skipping. With the wireless-N, it worked maybe 50% of the time.

I returned the wireless-N router. As a side note, I am fairly technical and don't believe the fault was in the router setup. Yes the fault could be with the Intel wireless card (but Intel is big and this is their latest card).

This baby is a thing of beauty! Makes gaming so fast on my computer. In CS Source i get ping from 3-8! The router is in the front house and i live in the back. Roughly between 4 walls, and about a distance of 100 feet, I am getting every drop of connection. What's even better is the dual gigabit im able to also run on my PC and with this baby, I can achieve download speeds of xx MEGABYTES PER SECOND.
