Linksys Still On Top, January 9, 2007
By Greg (Pittsburgh, PA USA)
Very easy to setup, good range as long as its away from big appliances.

    Typical Linksys Quality/Design, January 9, 2007
By B. Matlock
Solid, dependable, easy to set up, intuitive interface. Could be somewhat challenging to person not familiar with basic networking.. but Linksys has done the best job they can do.

CON: I have read that many people are aggravated with Linksys not offering "Address Reservation" in their routers. I am puzzled as to why they do not offer this common feature.... but still a fantastic router.

The 54G wireless router works exactly as advertised. Has good range and is easy to use.

Works fine; zero support for the MAC; buggy setup, January 9, 2007
By Troy (San Francisco, CA)
Works fine, but doesn't even mention the MAC in its instructions--booo! The setup is buggy and will require you to reset the thing and start over numerous times to get it right.

Easy to use and very stable, January 9, 2007
By lhansen (Ogden, Utah USA)
The Linksys WRT54G Wireless was an excellent buy. Reasonably easy to set up, and very reliable. I've only had it for about 2 months, but I've never had to reset it due to a lost connection.

Great wireless router, January 6, 2007

I have this wieless router for over two year. It is still working without a problem. Great product.

Works great once you get it going, January 6, 2007
By D. Riel (Gig Harbor)
It is simple to hook up to a wired connection, and adding another wired connection is just a matter of plugging it in. But, when you establish a secure wireless connection, the CD set up is not user friendly. You have to run through the software a few times, setting up wired computers first, then go through the software again pretending to set up an unsecured network to get to the information on setting up a encrypted wireless network??? Great product, they just need a better set up disc. After a few months, the wireless suddenly stopped working and I had to manually set up and force the wireless connection. With the number of kids in my house, I don't know where the blame for that should go...

This product was received on time and worked as advertised ...

No problems at all, I would buy it again and recommend it.

    Boo!! Linksys, January 6, 2007
By Arnold Strong (Tenakee, Alaska USA)
This wireless router would not work with my Mac powerbook and my satellite interrnet connection. Linksys technical support via Asia was difficult to communicate with. After spending several days trying the suggestions support personnel advised and spending over 4 hours on hold lne day, I returned the product for replacement. I have waited over 6 weeks for replacement. Support site states they will ship replacement in 1-3 days, but site states my router is on backorder! Steer clear of Linksys if you want something to work and expect good tech support. I have subsequently purchased an Apple airport extreme base station which worked with minimal setup and is working flawlessly.

DO NOT BUY ! THIS ROUTER IS NOW JUNK!!, January 6, 2007
By J. Richards (Pembroke Pines)
This use to be on of the best routers but since Linksys changed the design v5 , v6 , it is now a piece of junk. Router will not configure PPOE, have to restructure network ip's to get this thing to lip along. Buy the WRT54GL it's the same as the old version 4 (that worked) of this once great product.

    Don't Bother, January 5, 2007

Linksys is a poor product. The range is horrible from the computer to our laptop. You can sit in the same place and have different connections (good, excellent, etc..) We have had to replace our card several times, as it just stopped working and would malfunction. The worst is customer service. My husband spent hours on the phone with the customer support person in India. The gentleman could not understand that our laptop would not connect and kept asking my husband to go online with the laptop, he also kept saying, "We may lose the internet connection", when there was NO internet connection. After 45 minutes the man said, " I hope your problem never gets fixed, I'll now connect you with the best technician in the world." Then he hung up on my husband. The next person was in the Philippines and helped a bit, but we are still not connected and have had to take our laptop to a technician to repair the damage done to our laptop by the first technician who was doing nothing other than reading off a script of problem solving. He created a bridge on our system for our TWO computers. We will be throwing away our Linksys system and buying something that is easier to use and set up and has better customer service. I would never deal with this company or advise anyone to buy a product having to deal with hostile and angry technicians. Having help with any product purchased is very important. After the 3 hours of time spent with several technicians it is clear they are reading off a script and going down the line of problems and don't know what they are doing.
UPDATE: We contacted Linksys in CA (not an easy task) and have recieved several phone calls...one apologizing for the rudeness of the technician and another from a CA tech trying to help us fix our computer. This tech knew what he was talking about and has been helpful. I'm not changing the rating though...they record these sessions, they should make sure their technicians are helpful and not hurtful.

My son bought this so he use his laptop at home and utilize the wireless capability. The Linksys has performed beautifully and their Customer service guys were so helpful, quick and terrific!

Bought one three months ago and one day all of a sudden it died on me. The wireless-G router can be on for so long before it stops sending signals or internet. After that you need to unplug and let it cool down for a while. I left mine on all day everyday and found that it has a lot of problems sending signals and communicating with wireless cards (laptop and wireless computer). Customer service for these things are not the greatest either. They seem to have lots of problems with communications themselves (b/t companies and factories). I've been waiting 2.5 weeks for my replacement router (under warranty) and was told I'd have to wait another week. I would buy a different router but I've already paid for one so I'm stuck with it until something new comes up. If you're ganna do light surfing on the net it'll be ok but if you're a heavy net user like me get something else.

    Router upgrade, January 5, 2007
By Automate Everything (MA USA)
I was pleasantly surpise how easy this unit installed after reading all the negative reviews about it. I replaced an old Dlink router with this one and the upgrade took about 20 minutes. The only issue I had was on how to setup static IP address behind the router for systems I have that do not use dynamic address assignment.

Stable and good..., January 5, 2007

The router initially gave some problems, but once I upgraded the firmware, it works great now! I was having a lot of problems with routers from other companies recently but this linksys router seems to have solved the issue! Thanks.

Easy to use, January 5, 2007
By Finisius (Yucaipa, CA USA)
This product was easy to setup. I have had no problems with the router since its installation 3-months ago and even setup a wireless unit for my Xbox 360 with it last night.

nice, inexpensive router, January 4, 2007
By country bumpkin (Lewis County, WA USA)
I wanted to provide a connection for my laptop anywhere in the house, and this product was highly rated in a computer magazine. Installation and setup were fast and easy, and product works just as advertised. I was up and running in about 10 minutes. I can't comment on maximum range, as I haven't used it beyond about 50 feet, but it works well upstairs (through a ceiling). And it didn't slow down my fairly low-speed DSL. Since my nearest neighbors are 1/4 mile and no street passes nearby, I don't have security concerns, so can't attest to its performance in that area.

Works just fine, January 4, 2007
By Lj Anderson (Little Rock)
Upgraded from a Linksys B router to this. The process was okay - not super smooth, but no major quirks either. Once in place, it makes a huge difference and glad I did the upgrade.

    Lynksys Wireless G Router, January 4, 2007
By Philip Utley (Mount Juliet, TN. United States)
This is my second Linksys router and it is just a good as the first one. Now that Cisco owns the Linksys product line I expect that Linksys will only continue to improve it's products. I have purchased many of their products and am very satisfied with all of them. This unit is working great and the range is outstanding. I highly recommend this over any other brand.

    It works., January 4, 2007
By A. Taylor (Providence, RI, USA)
A competent router, but I want an easy (or any) interface to reserve specific IP addresses for devices on my home network. Port forwarding is a pain when the device addresses change over time.

Maybe this does, but I can't find it in the byzantine interface.
