    It works!, November 9, 2007
By Glenda Boozer (Douglass, Texas)
This thing will do the job without a lot of fuss and bother. I had the whole network rocking along in just a few minutes, and now I can forget about it and get my work done. What more can I ask?

I live out in the country and have satellite Internet, so this wasn't an ordinary setup, but I had no problems at all.

Good router at a good value..., November 6, 2007
By J. Brewington
I have this router in my basement and can access the network from anywhere in my 2 story house. Occasionally the router will hang, although that may be because of our Cable modem issues - however it is simple to unplug it and wait 30 seconds before plugging back in. Web interface is not as user friendly as I have seen, but is powerful enough for any home users to set up their own wireless networks. I wish they had a built in print server but that is minor considering it would have added at least $20 to the price, and can be purchased seperately. Probably still the best home 802.11g router available for performance, reliability and price.

    Affordable performace, November 4, 2007
By Reinaldo J. Ballestero (Costa Rica)
This product delivers, and the basic version I'm purchasing, is even the same version used in many WiFi Hotspots around. I'm getting excellent signal all over my house, even when doors closed and with 3 walls in between, which means this can be read easily by any nearby neightbor.
Solution for becoming a Free Internet Hot Spot, the included software and installation guide, fool proof and easy to follow to create secure network with strong encryption in you home, without being an engineer.
This is one of the great features of this product, besides it's bullet proof performance...
I hope this product will never get discontinued..

Easy set up, excellent routing, November 2, 2007
By H. Boggs (Corona, CA USA)
This product was easy to set up on our two computers so they could both enjoy wireless, secure routing. The provided software made the set up very very easy. No problems as of yet

When this router is working i'm a big fan. Works well with my TIVO and the range is good.

Only downside is the router craps out roughly once a week and you have to connect directly to go on the linksys webpage to bring everything back to working order.

Great range and decent speed, but drops signals daily., October 28, 2007
By J. Mijares (San Francisco, CA)
NOTE: Regardless of which router you buy, always check the manufacturer's website BEFORE YOU START USING IT to make sure you have the latest software and firmware!

Pros: I've been using this router for about three weeks now. Its range is very impressive. No drop off in speed anywhere in the 1000 sqft townhouse I'm in now. So this router does a great job getting through all of the walls in the house.

One thing I like about this router is that it configures itself! You just have to hook it up and let the software run through the setup process. It sets up security for you, and if you have multiple computers, it will configure the security and connection settings for those computers as well.

Cons: It drops a signal at least once a day. I know it's not my computer and dsl modem that's dropping the signal, but the router itself. Granted, there could be someone next door using a cordless phone (same band frequency as 90% of the routers out there), but it's a bit of a hassle because I lose the connection, and then it either reconnects itself after about a minute, or I have to do it manually. I would suspect that if you're in a house with decent separation between you and your neighbor, you might not have those signal drops.

One more downside is that it doesn't filter websites. For the parents and other conscientious folks out there who want to block objectionable websites, there's no feature for that. My previous wireless router was a Netgear and with that one, I could filter out the websites.

Final thoughts: I think the pros outweigh the cons for this router. And the price makes it very attractive. Good security (for older and newer computers) and very good range.

More time Fixing, Less time on actual internet, October 28, 2007
By Sam Cruz (Los Angeles, Ca)
OMG!!! Every time i turn on my computer, it tells me that a new router has been detected. after sitting at my computer for 20-30 min. trying to fix it i get it to work. then after browsing around the web for another 20-30 min. i lose my conection. Eventhough all the correct lights are turned on both the router and the modem. Again i have to open up the settings and wait for such a long time to do everything. I have Windows XP with sp2, my internet was working fine with just the modem, but wanted to go wireless. i regret the purchase now.

    Not satisfied, October 27, 2007
By A. Jaradat (Morris, MN United States)
I installed the router as instructed by the manual, it did not work! I contacted the local provider, then the manufacturer, they helped me step by step. It worked for a while, It was slow, very slow some times. I unplugged it and I would like to return it.

Thanks.

Did a MAC install yesterday, October 27, 2007
By zigzagg (Vashon Island, WA United States)
Would have helped to have some documentation. Problem is you need to configure this with your browser if you have a MAC, the wizard doesn't work, it is Windows only. If you have two computers you set one up on the Linksys and the other on the internet to get instructions from the Linksys site. I eventually started a support chat session because I was getting a freeze. Fixed. Having a single computer would have been harder but not all that hard.

But works well. Ran a speed test and I get exactly the same results, 3000 KBPS, on both my hardwired and Airport MACs. As for the dude who said you had to change all of these settings, I just changed one. The IP of the router. From 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.2.1 pretty easy and in the Linksys instructions on their site for setting up a DSL modem.

So, an ancient dual processor G4 desktop and a very new MAC notebook are coexisting nicely on my DSL connection.

I gave it 4 stars because they should have included some written instructions. It was ridiculous not to.

    LinkSys Wireless Router WRT54G, October 25, 2007
By K. dechabert
I have had no problems with this router. The set-up is very easy, and well explained; it is a very user friendly product. Shipping was great: it arrived in good time and the package was sealed and in as good a condition as if I bought it from the store.

nice router, easy setup, October 22, 2007
By enriqx (Venezuela)
I purchase the linksys wrt54g, followed the instructions and i haven't found any problems installing it. It comes with a software that guides you in the process, also guides you after the installation, when you need to install another device, like adding more computers is very easy; the process is simple, even for me, somebody not so enthusiast about computers and software. since i was in a hurry i just put it on the floor, and got a "good" signal strength, to improve the signal strengt i put it about 3 feet above floor and got a better signal. I recommend this product.

one hassle install, October 20, 2007
By K. Brown (Lincoln City, OR USA)
this router installed in minutes, hassle-free right up until the wireless part came in. then the swearing started. I think I've got it working, now. this review is actually the acid test for the internet connection, but the printer is not connecting yet.

Nice and smooth, October 18, 2007
By Book Worm (Stanford, CA)
I had it a wireless network up and running in my apartment about 30 minutes. If you want to get specific, I have Windows XP on my HP pavilion laptop and a Broadcom wireless adapter, and I connect to the Internet via a DSL modem, courtesy Comcast.

Nerd that I am, I spent the next 30 minutes fiddling with the web interface to the router configuration. It was fun to play with. Anyway, I have excellent coverage throughout my apartment. I don't live in a mansion or a villa, so I don't know how good the range of this thing is, but I imagine it will work well in any moderately sized house. My only minor complaint is against the installation CD - the drive failed to read it a couple of times (but eventually did). But then my laptop is getting old, so I am not sure who to blame here.

Anyway, one less cord to trip over now :) I would definitely recommend this product.

    Linksys WRT54G Wireless - G Router, October 18, 2007
By Jumpinjean (Minneapolis MN)
This was very easy to install for someone not as savy with the technical side. I installed in the basement on one desktop, and used the wireless
USB adapter for my desktop on another level as well as tapping into the network from my laptop - even outside on the deck. The range is very good with the signal quality always at excellent. Highly recommend

WRT54G Wireless-G Router defies simple Mac installation, October 17, 2007
By Admitme (south carolina)
I ordered this wireless router based on what other said about its quality. They were quite correct; it is well made.

I ran into immediate problems, though, with the setup. Here's my situation:
I have a Macintosh G4 and a BellSouth DSL connection. I'm adding a MacBook wireless connection using Mac OS internal Airport.

The problem here is, probably, not with the technology. There is, however, a serious problem with the lack of installation documentation. I've Googled online and found dozens of people in my situation. Among Linksys, Bellsouth, Apple, there walls of insulation that make this setup far from simple.

First, if linksys had provided a Macintosh setup CD it would have been a tremendous help. If I had been a wired geek, I probably could have called on my powers as a nerd to begin entering an endless string of IPs and DHCPs and PPoEs, etc. that need to be configured. I'm just a regular Joe user.

Next, Bellsouth DSL, which I have used for years and like for its remarkable uptime abilities, provides no documentation whatsoever about making a wireless connection to its router. Not that I could find.

Finally, Apple's Airport is friendly, but unprepared to bridge the gap between linksys and bellsouth.

I expected plug and play, but got plop and play dead. This may well be my fault, but I need a white knight to make this thing right.

Pretty decent for the money, October 17, 2007
By D. Nolan (Roanoke, Virginia USA)
I have had this router for about 3 years. For the most part I have been fairly satisfied with this item. From time to time I lose connection with the router and have to restart the router. This is not that big of deal to me since it only happens once ever few months. The only negative I have about the item is the lack of range. I do not have a large house but if I go further than the room next to the router my signal strength is drastically reduced.

great as expected, October 17, 2007

this is the forth Linksys Wireless I have purchased and installed for myself and my friends - it worked, as expected, right out of the box with no problems whatsoever - thanks Linksys!!

Purchased this router several years ago. It has been going virtually non-stop and I have not had one problem with it. Great reliable product.
