I'm not one for leaving reviews (I like to read them) but after 5, yes FIVE, routers in 6 months I finally bought this. I have 3 macs and 2 iphones sharing the wireless. All previous routers were basically a nightmare. The kind of nightmare where it slowly creeps up on you. You're wondering down some friendly street and then WHAM you're in a weird dimension battling centipedes. I digress, buy this router if you want to save your sanity. It works.

Used to have a D-Link and no signal not even close to the router. Changed to this Linksys and now I get strong signal even in the other end at a different level of my spacious home. Highly recommendable.

All I can say is that this baby works.. I have had it for just over 2 years and after a few moves and network setups, this baby still works as new..

This router works great, I think signal is a little weak. I have two computers downstairs strong signal but signal gets very weak on my son's laptop upstairs, it gets so weak that it flags "time out connection".

This was so easy to set up. I'm electronically-challenged and thought I'd have to call a friend for help. I just followed the on-screen directions that came with the router, and wahla...it was installed in no time! I've had it a few weeks and so far, no problems.

Works great once its configured, June 5, 2008

I've been using this router for almost 3 months now. Initially I had problems setting up the router through the installation disk as the router could not detect the internet. I went through the installation a few times and somehow the router was finally able to make a connection with the modem to connect to the internet. I've had success adding other computers and my iPod to the network. The range is good enough (at least in my 900 sq ft home) that I can walk around with my laptop and still have a connection. I am delighted to have more flexibility with where I can do my work and not have network cords all over the place!

Should be renamed the WReset54G, June 3, 2008
By Chris L. Eaton (Benton, AR United States)
I have owned Version 6 this router for several years, it works most of the time. The thing that aggravates me is the fact that I have to reset it once or twice a week. This usually occurs during heavy use ie. several computers doing intensive networking. The router will stop handing out IP addresses, or just stop "routing" anything. A reset always cures it. It has an amazing ability to judge just how much downtime I am willing to accept without throwing it against the wall.

There are many supposed after market firmwares for this router, but none of them work on Version 6.

I have several clients that use this router as well, they have the same problems. I do not recommend the router.

Just as expected from a wireless router, June 3, 2008

I bought this to replace the old Linksys wireless router because my new laptop didn't get along with it. Everything is as expected. It's easy to set up, and it has been working well for more than half a year.

Fast and easy setup, June 2, 2008
By G. Lee (New York, NY USA)
This product was bought to replace a 3 year old wireless router. Setup through the CD was fast. The system forces you to accept a generated WEP key. The router was set up and we were able to connect a desktop computer, laptop and internet tablet to the router. It's really fast. It dropped the connection a few times but the wizard reconnected quickly. Very happy with the product.

I would not buy this, June 2, 2008

I am on my 2nd WRT54G. Both of them don't work. I have spent more time on the phone with tech support than working. They have refused to refund my money and I have filed a complaint with the better business bureau. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PRODUCT

    Copper I Got Ya!,, May 25, 2008
By Bartok Kinski (Prague)
This inexpensive radar unit for autos works to track signals from police magnets, thereby informing you of the presence of police in the area and it is especially at high alert around donut shops and restrooms. The theory behind this is that you won't get a ticket if you know a copper is in the area, hence people will slow down and put away their crack pipes. It can also pick up strange alien frequencies, Pavarotti concerts, AM/FM radio signals and certain Republican conventions, which are a complete bore.

Those who are giving this router bad reviews have never truly seen this little wonder perform at it's highest potential. You simply CANNOT judge the performance of the WRT54G until you have experimented with one or more of the third party firmwares which have been created for it. [...]

Personally, I have tried both DD-WRT and Tomato, both of which were excellent. However, I ended up settling on DD-WRT because it offered a couple of tweaks I needed.

Anyway, like the article says, you can basically turn your $50 router into a mini-Cisco, just by reflashing the firmware and tweaking a few settings. But hey, don't take MY word for it. Read up on it and try one of them out. Trust me, it will make your router sing!

    Good value, May 19, 2008
By Babs (Erie, PA)
Works just like expected. Did not use the setup CD but logged in through the web interface. I also prefer the 2 external antennae of of this model versus different models with just one or internal antennae. It is new enough that it does support WPA2 which surprised me since I though I saw different in the tech specs. Based on previous experience with Linksys consumer products, I expect 2 - 3 years life out of this product.

Relatively easy setup - great speed, May 19, 2008
By Edward Hass (Woodmere, NY)
I bought this router for two reasons: I had upgraded my cable internet service, but was not getting anywhere near the promised speed; and my son wanted wireless internet connectivity to his Nintendo Wii and DS. A call to Nintendo confirmed that this was one of the routers that would work well with their game systems.

As an old computer techie, I was not happy with the setup software that comes with this router. I ignored it and just connected to the router directly (adress: 192.168.1.1; username: admin; password: password.) I set the WEP security key in the Wireless Security section, changed the password, and I was ready to go. My son had no trouble connecting his games wirelessly, and my computers (that are connected to the computer via Ethernet cables) were getting 30mbps throughput - six times faster than my previous router, which was five years old. This is definitely a five star router for those whose needs are similar to mine: wired computer connections, and wireless games - with some computer skills. If you want fast WIRELESS computer acess, might want to consider a faster "N" router, and if you're computer illiterate, you might want a router with easier setup instructions.

    Great product, May 18, 2008
By Suhas Urkude
This product is really robust. Works beautifully. Transmission is really good and hence results in strong wireless signals. However, sometimes i have seen cases where suddenly all the WEP settings were lost and the router was up without any security.

    Great Deal!, May 9, 2008

Great Product, I just had a problem configuring it the first time, the cd that configures the router is a little confusing. But apart of that it's an excellent product. I really recommend this router for Home users or in my case a small business....

Easiest to set up of all, May 8, 2008

Linksys products have always been the easiest to set up and the most reliable I've used.
