Works great, August 20, 2006
By cheri' (south Louisiana)
I gotta say, I was a little intimidated to set up a wireless network . . . It's been my experience that things like this just don't work the way they are supposed to. But except for a minor glitch on installation - which was quickly and efficiently remedied by polite and knowledgeable tech support - this thing works great! I don't know how I did without it for so long.
Easy, inexpensive, and it works. What more can I ask?

A good Product, August 20, 2006

I have been using this router for over a month now with no problems. If you follow the setup instructions on the CD it seems to work without a hitch

Affordable, Simple Wireless, August 20, 2006
By fluidmosaic (Decatur, Ga United States)
I've used a variety of Linksys products over the last two or three years, but the Wireless-G Router is just a simple, cost-effective solution to juggling separate routers, wireless access points, and ethernet cabling. They're also stylish little machines that add a nice touch to the computer desk.
I have no complaints whatsoever. Even with my desktop computer in the shop for repairs, I have effortless wireless on the laptop as I write this.

Big House, Big Internet Range, August 19, 2006
By TRiN
This router, after thorough investigation, was chosen by me to hold a wireless network in a 2 story house. Guess what, it's doing its job superbly. The strength of the signal upstairs in a room, while the router is in a room downstairs, is excellent or very good. I'm really happy with this one, especially after hearing of people with other routers that are not functioning properly.
You gotta love this one for the signal - not the alien design.

a piece of junk, August 18, 2006
By Thomas J. Stone (Denver)
Don't buy this thing. Both the one at my home office and the one at our business office have done the same thing -- simply stopped being able to connect to the internet after a couple of months even though the signal strength was great -- and they only worked for a few days after the firmware download that the tech support people walk you through (or that you can do for yourself).
Plus, the retailer (in my case Circuit City) refused to give a refund after 30 days of ownership and you are put on permanent hold on the Linksys customer service line when trying to get through to the refund line. Mine is less than 6 months old. Any suggestions for alternative uses (e.g., model boat anchor, a piece of contemporary art, etc.)?

Works flawlessly, August 18, 2006
By Laurie (NJ)
The installation CD makes set up virtually foolproof. No problems whatsoever. Be sure to change your router settings and set up Network Security so your wireless network is somewhat secure.

So far, so good..., August 17, 2006
By Ogidi .I. (Boston, MA)
Up until now, I've been quite happy with this router. In the past month or so, it's been turned off only once. I've however not tried a firmware update because of the issues people seem to be having with it. Mine came with a Feb. '06 firmware, so sooner or later, I'll have to summon courage to take the risk of updating it.

awsome ! performer ! beats all average gears., August 13, 2006
By koo (seoul,korea)
first i should mention that im using a wired router for the main
routing because 6band vdsl is serviced in my neighbor hood.
yes i think i m lucky to achieve 43megabits download performace
through wired direct connection.
thats where linksyswrt54g lacks, wired wan performance!
so i use a 100mbit rate wired router in the end.
and as an ap ((dhcp-off)) i use this beautiful wireless router
as simple ap.
uncompressed data download goes upto 29megabits/sec using
broadcom afterburner based pcmcia w-lan adapter(wli-cb-g54s)
and compressed data goes upto 24megabits /sec
(((cleared close range)))----------------------------
and not to mention the performance is based on wpa-aes 12letter
encryption.
i also have wusb54g for long range use . which i do not really
use out side much .because it's too hot out side.
one evening i tested wusb54g with my super heavy inspiron
wardrive in the front yard, it panetrates bricks like as if they
are wooden card boards. impressed i was! i think having 2
antena is a huge gain. surprising thing is antenas are only 2dbi
each if you dont need extra steroid speed or crazy pc to pc
sharing and only stable longrange(penatration) usable wi-fi router?
go for it. with the 6dbi antenas if you feel the need.
in long range mimo is greate but i dont want no one to
break their budget for simple purpose.
i recomand wrt54g with these....
wusb54gs ((4megabitsfaster_but expensive._notjustfor wrt54gs_performance.))
wusb54g (( simply built for wrt54g in range_stabilty._))
buffalo or linksys 's afterburner(airforce) chipset based w-lan
adpters they are advertised as 125mbHighSpeed ...
among above w-lan adpters only wusb54g uses Ralink2500 chipset.
###please be aware atheros 108gchipset or abg chips are not
recomanded i personally had some wicked time using atheros with
broadcom chip based wl-routers . they just hate each other.###
if you have xp_sp2 donot install the utility just install the
driver let the wzc takecare of the rest.

Unbelievably easy to set up!, August 12, 2006
By A. Davis (Philadelphia, PA USA)
The last time I bought a Linksys router, which was only a year ago, my office IT guy couldn't get it to work with our company's secure setup, so I took it back. I had to buy a new router this week, and decided to give this Linksys a try. It got rave reviews for the most part and was clearly the popular favorite. And now I know why! This gadget was up and running in no time, and the installation wizard even walked me through the secure network setup, which was something I've never been able to figure out before. I couldn't believe how easy it was.
I *thought* there was trouble when my wireless laptop disconnected from the network after only a few minutes, but I quickly discovered it was trying to connect to the old default network. That was no problem to fix. Everything's running smoothly, and I still can't get over now easy it was to set up. I don't think it took more than 10 minutes.

Works great -- no problems, August 9, 2006
By Access Archon (Kerhonkson, NY USA)
I was having problems connecting a Tivo to my old wired router (also a Linksys), so I got this one. It works great with the Tivo (wireless mode) and two desktops (wired to its ports). This worked out so well I got a matching Wireless-G notebook adapter, and connected my notebook too. Everything works fine, both the wired and wireless connections.

Certainly not "Plug-"n-Play", August 7, 2006
By David Heininger
Worked fine out of the box when being used as a wired router but it took a total of 4 hours on the phone with tech support, several firmware downloads/installations and more asprins than I care to admit to get this puppy working wirelessly. I'm no techie but I'm not a dummy either - this product needs lots more tweaking and better documentation+support before it's ready for prime time/ mass appeal.
Even after finally getting it all up and running we have experienced numerous, "drop-outs" of wireless communication with the router lasting from a few minutes to almost an hour. None of the re-set procedures have any effect. So far it has always come back on its own, eventually. Who knows about next time???
In use primarily as a router for satellite internet service routed to two wi-fi ready laptops running WinXP.

I Plugged It In and Haven't Looked Back, August 6, 2006
By Ralph-Michael (Seoul, South Korea)
This is one of the most convenient pieces of computer hardware I have ever bought. All you need to do is put the appropriate wire in the correct spot (easy enough if your body comes with a brain) and turn it on. The router sets itself up. It's distance is good. They say it can go through 3 walls and that's accurate. In other words, I have the router set up in my bedroom but can take my laptop into the bathroom (I don't know why I would bring it there, but I could) with two walls between laptop and router or even further to the living room, which is beyond the bathroom, and now have 3 walls between me and the router and still get continuous Internet. This is one of the best purchases I have made in a long time.

Nothing But Problems, August 6, 2006
By VinnieD (Florida, USA)
Run!!! Don't walk away from the piece of junk. The 1st one I had was DOA, the 2nd has died on a simple Firmware upgrade. This router has been nothing but problems for the 2 days I have owned it. Their customer support hours are bad so it will be easier for me to get a refund. Thanks Linksys, looks like it is time for a Netgear router.
