    Terrific., February 28, 2006
By Rabidwonton
Quick, snappy, easy to set up and everything I've tried on it works without having to update the firmware! I set it up using the web interface which isnt as easy to find because Linksys now tries to force a windows only installer on you, so if you arent comfortable using the web setup without instructions I wouldnt reccommend it. Otherwise, nothing wrong with it.

I have liked Linksys since my first networking kit back in 2000 and I thought setting this router with my DSL and other system with a wireless linksys adapter would be a breeze.
Installing the router was no problem but getting it setup for my DSL and then adding another computer through wireless was a challenge. The information from the Quick start guide did not match the screens and the tech support tried to be helpful but had no clue. I actually resolve the issues throuh my ISPs FAQ's and downloadable instructions.

This is probably the 5th of this that I've got, I've always recomend it to friends and family. Easy setup, with intuitive interface. I've got the version 5.0 and comparing with my old version 1.0 this has better range. Anyway you always can hack its software and increase the range or tune it up to your preferences

Upgraded my network system from a wireless-b router. Excellent range, no mixed signals with nearby networks, and easy to use.

Wost router and technical support ever, February 26, 2006

I bought Linksys BEFW11S4 Wireless-B Cable/DSL Router 2 years ago when it was new and expensive. It kept dropping my connection and I had to spend half an hour every time getting it to work. So we decided to use my roommate's Mac Airport instead which worked perfectly. After my roommate moved away I pulled the Linksys router back out to use. Here is the story of my encounter with the tech support: First time I called, I got a guy with such a thick English accent that I had to ask him to repeat every thing 3 times and I was still not sure if I understood what he was saying. He got angry and hung up on me!!!! The second time I called, I got a woman who had absolutely no clue how to fix the router's problem. She would remain silent and I had to keep asking if she was still there or not. This time I hung up on her! Third time I called, I got a guy who thankfully had a smart head on his shoulders and an understandable accent. He figured out that my router that was marked BEFW11S4 was actually a WRT54G so with his help I installed the new driver on the router. Problem is that I still get marginal signal sitting only 2 feet away from the router and it still drops connection every half hour and I have to spend a lot of time getting it to work.
I will never purchase another Linksys product. I am going back to Mac Airport!

The router works great once you get it installed. Like most computer items it's never an A B C installation. At least that's always been my experiences. I had to use the help line to get it to connect to my cable.

The help desk for Linksys was very helpful and helped expedite the installation. Their help desk was at least in the states if you know what I mean.

WE had difficulties with our house portable phones cutting off the signals occasionally due the same frequency, so we have to reset it occasionally, but other than that . This product has an easy instalation and works well. No complaints here really.

Linksys has always been a great, reliable company to buy networking equipment from. Their owner, Cisco, has made industry networking equipment for years. This router does exactly what it's supposed to do, and an easy setup. The range worked great, too!

I had a lot of trouble getting router to work with the assistance of Linksys help line. Internet with router is noticeably slower than without. The main advantage is getting internet reception on a laptop wirelessly.

I replaced my existing wireless router (same model, just decided to die one day) with another one. After about 2 hrs on the phone with tech support in India, we came to the realization that the model was broken - the tech support guy said he knew of a very large shipment of these that were all faulty. I'm returning it, dumping linksys altogether and getting this one:

Great Price and Easy to Connect!, February 24, 2006
By Internet whiz, installation moron (Wisconsin)
Before ordering, I knew absolutely NOTHING about routers; we own an inn and wanted to offer wireless service to guests, so two different acquaintances recommended this particular router. We ordered it, were happy to find we could get it for less than either of our acquaintances had paid, and best of all, the installation was a breeze because of the included instruction disk! If only every computer component was this easy to work with!

I have been very happy with this product. It has completely freed me up to be more mobile with my laptop within our home. The connection happens smoothly and quickly once I open my laptop in the morning. I am very happy with its performance.

Easy setup, flawless operation, February 22, 2006

This router is the perfect solution to split up your internet connection.

The installation is easy if you are a little bit familiar with router configurations, otherwise you might missconfigure a couple of options wich can be changed later on on a trial & error basis. The browser-config is well structured and provides information on what all the options are for.

So far the router has been working flawlessly since I bought it, with Linksys wireless card for my laptop and a Toshiba with WiFi as well. I have never been suddently disconnected and although I haven't checked the maximum range of the signal it's still Excellent within 20 meters with wood walls in between.

No more Linksys products for me, February 22, 2006

Got this item and it drops internet access frequently. The only thing that fixes the problem is to power down the router. Linksys service is unresponsive even though the web is full of similar reports.

No more Linksys products for me.

i gave this a try after unsuccessfully trying to set up my netgear wgr614v6 (aka: P.O.S.) for a week. i had the linksys up and running in 10 minutes. the setup wizard was annoying but the manual setup was a breeze. highly reccommended for gamers and wireless enthusiasts. (only had for 2 days so i cannot comment on long term durability)

    aware of v5, February 16, 2006
By Wan Olym
Linksys switched from Linux to vxWorks and cut the momery in half in v5 version of this router. As a result, you won't be able to flash it with third party firmwares. So buy one from a store instead. Check the serial number carefully and buy one whose serial number does NOT starts with CDFB....

All in All Great product!, February 15, 2006
By Amazon.com Fan (Rocket City U.S.A.)
I have been using this wireless router for a few months with no problems. I set up my dsl modem/router in bridged mode to use only the Linksys for routing. I run 3 XP computers and my own Linux Web Server. When I need to test another Linux machine such as an FTP server or and Email server I can even throw on a Linksys 8 port switch to add more wired connections. The only wireless connections I run on it are a XP based laptop and a robotic wireless network camera which has it's own webserver built it so that it can be viewed and controlled remotely. I run a third party firmware on it which allows me to pump up the power beyond the default 50%. Running at 100% power I have never had it run too hot to work flawlessly. No problems for me running windows machines, linux machines, linux webserver, netcam web server, P2P all at the same time!! This has been a workhorse for me and I demand more from it than was even intended. For the most part it is a very easy to setup and secure router, if you have problems or try to set up enough different combinations of hardware, servers etc., you may do well to visit dslreports.com and either read through the forums or ask for help in the appropriate forum. Although certainly not always, most problems will likely be operator error.

Junk! Matching speedbooster wireless card connects to the internet only when it feels like it, even in the same room as the router and with 100% signal strength. Tech support says to download new firmware - can't find firmware for v5 on their site.

Have spent way too many hours with this piece of crap!
