Awesome product., September 7, 2007

I love this Router. The range of the wireless extends pretty far, and I have not had a problem with the wireless connection thus far.

Absolute junk, September 3, 2007
By To Be Simple
I have never had this much trouble with a computer product. I've owned this model for a couple years, and the first year went fairly smooth after finally getting it set up properly. The past few months have been filled with the router working off and on. Technical support is pretty much worthless considering it takes forever to talk to semi-English speaking people and they ask repetitive questions after I've given them the answer several times. I feel like putting my head through a wall after getting off tech support with these people. In any case, I have done multiple resets in recent weeks. After each reset the router will work for a few hours then quit working. I call tech support and go through the same procedure time after time. I'm still under warranty yet even after spending many hours on tech support the company is not going to repair it. They keep putting through the same useless procedure. I've had it and am going to just buy another brand of router and hope for the best. Incidentally, we had three really nice Linksys routers at work and they ALL crapped out within a year, so I am not feeling too good about this company's products. A friend of mine warned me about Linksys routers back when I bought mine, and now I know why.

It sucks!, September 2, 2007
By www.mkgames.net (GA, USA)
I'm very good at setting things up with computers. I'm the person people come to to set up their PC stuff. I got one of these routers, boy does it suck! I don't know if it was a faulty unit or what, but when plugged up, the computer never could detect it.... not even when hard wired! Not only did it not transmit a wireless signal, it didn't route! I have a friend who's dad set up a linksis system. It works well, however, he is a professional in communications at bellsouth.... it STILL TOOK HIM, A PRO AN ENTIRE WEEK TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO CONFIGURE IT! Not for begginers or intermediates! Don't go with this company! there are plenty of GOOD ones out there!

There's nothing like wireless home access!, August 31, 2007
By tech newbie (San Jose, CA United States)
As a newbie to the wireless home I'm enjoying its fruits. However there's no denying that even with the relatively easy installation that Linksys provides, you still have to know a few things about the computer, dsl modem, ethernet cable, etc. That's why the husband rather than the wife installed the device. Also, I've had to use the "reset" button on the router several times already and was surprised that the Linksys software didn't make it more obvious that this was what needed to be done. I had to trouble shoot the issue and gradually came to ID the router as the culprit. It works great 99% of the time.

Very disappointing!, August 29, 2007
By G.G. (chicago, il United States)
I bought this because Linksys was the best and easiest to install. Nothing but a pain in my butt week signal and my computer is literally only 20 feet away they say thick wall affect it but I dont think they are that thick. Signal is always week I try to move it try to adjust the settings but nothing. It was not worth the money I hope newer versions are better I may not buy another one of there products after this.

works great, August 29, 2007
By J. Burner (South Jersey)
I have been using it for about a month. Very easy to set up. I was able to set up my 3 desktops and my notebook computers without a problem. We are now on a secure network. Light weight router that doesn't take up much desk space.

Terrible router - video streaming problems, August 29, 2007
By GatoRat (United States)
I bought the LinkSys WRT54G V8 router to replace an old LinkSys BEFW11S4 that I'd borrowed from work. At first it appeared to work, but then I discovered it would deliver choppy streaming video and/or just lock up when viewing streaming video. If that wasn't bad enough, it would sometimes just hand, requiring a power off reboot. Unfortunately, I'd lost my receipt so I couldn't return it to the store. I ended up exchanging it for the loaner from work and letting them have the new unit (it's only used periodically for testing where streaming video isn't an issue.) The older unit periodically freezes, but it's still more stable.
To make all this worse, the support from LinkSys is terrible. They haven't fixed these problems. I highly suggest staying away from all LinkSys products.

Poor backward compatibility, terrible customer support, August 28, 2007
By Jason McDonald (Seattle, WA)
I have an apartment where we connect to this router with a variety of devices: a Mac notebook, a PC notebook with a 802.11g wireless card, and a PC notebook with a 802.11b wireless card. Only the PC with the 802.11g card gets reliable reception, and even then the connection is very slow.
I have tried calling customer support a number of times, but each call follows the same plot: I wait over 30 minutes on hold, I explain my problem, I am told to reset the router, I reset the router and the problem returns shortly thereafter. At this point the customer service agent is out of ideas on how to help me, other than having me request a technician (if I request it, I have to pay the $80/hr until the router is fixed).
I'm looking at other brands to replace this, as using this router is nearly as bad as trying to poach a connection from across the street.

Piece of junk, August 28, 2007
By Wade Burchette (Nashville, NC United States)
Let me be blunt, this is a piece of junk. I run a computer repair business and I've had many jobs whereby I had to fix this specific router. I've made a lot of money fixing people WiFi due to this router. If you are using a wired connection, you'll be fine. But the wireless network is going to fail you at some time. Here is how you fix it. From a WIRED connection, access the router and backup your settings. Do a factory reset. Then do restore your backup settings. It will then work again. Of course, you can avoid this hassle by looking somewhere else for a router.
In general, you should avoid any and all low-end Linksys products. However, the pricier Linksys products, such as the WRT54GL (the one with L at the end) is a quality router. But this one is junk worthy only of your trash can.

A difficult problem with this router..., August 27, 2007
By David Park (Anaheim Hills, CA United States)
I have had many years of experience in home/corporate networking. I have found that this particular router had some unresolvable issues. I updated the router with the latest firmware. According to linksys there are no hardware issues with my router.
For my current setup I have one Macbook and 3 Desktop PC's. I use my main router on one of my desktop PC's. The problem occurs when I use my Macbook to connect to the internet. Once connected, the router stops all internet activity. This happens every single time, the only way to resolve the issue is to manually reset the router every time. The airport card in the Macbook is compatible with this router according to the requirements. I've contacted apple and linksys for support and both attempts have been unsuccessful in trying to resolve this issue.
Please advise.

Difficult to work with Mac, August 23, 2007
By Rika Feng (New York, NY USA)
Linksys WRT54G Wireless-G Router The product description itself does not mention that it does not come with a driver that would work with Mac. I later found out that you have to do a lot of work around to make it work. I tried and it simply is not worth the effort.

Rock Solid, August 23, 2007
By Lou Ford (San Diego, CA)
I've been running this router 24/7 (with a power-off/on every few months) for over two years with no problems. I have it in the attic of my 1100sq. ft. house, and wireless signal is excellent everywhere within. I'm buying another one for my father-in-law.

Freezes at regular intervels, August 23, 2007
By S. Annavarapu (California, USA)
The new installation from cd is Excellent. very user friendly and any one with out knowledge about router can install one. This great installation wouldn't help if the router it self does not work. It worked good for around 10 hours and there began trouble. At regular intervals the router is freezing . So I updated the firmware ( My ver. is 8.0.0.. and updated to 8.0.2...). There was no use, the problem continued so, I ordered replacement which I got in no time. The hell with the new one is very serious. It didn't even last five hours. I have to restart the router and again after 5-10 hours it freezes again.

Once It's Set Up, It Works Like a Dream, August 20, 2007
By www.orderofstandrew.com (Iowa City, IA USA)
I picked this up at an electronics store because it said "One Touch Setup". The "one touch" button didn't do anything for me, and neither did the "Set-Up Wizard" included on the CD-ROM. If you have a cable modem like I do, apparently the only way to set this router up is using the web browser-based utility function (per the Linksys website help documents). Wish I would have known that before I wasted a Saturday afternoon powering this thing on and off!

Up and running in nothing flat!, August 16, 2007
By John Little
Purchased this router after a failed attempt to set up a wireless network using a D-Link DIR-615. Coming off a bad experience, I was expecting the worst.
The Linksys router immediately recognized my modem and was sending a strong wireless signal throughout my two-story Victorian. A quick phone call to Linksys tech support helped me solve a problem that I was having in securing the network and it has been running like a champ since.
I am very pleased with this product, the ease of set up and Linksys technical suuport. I'll definitely go with Linksys again!
