Do not think twice!, March 17, 2008
By Nipun Mahesh Shah (Redmond, WA USA)
This is by far the best product I have seen. My roomate used to have it and it never gave us any problems. I then bought a Belkin router and it was a nightmare. It never stayed connected for more than 3-5 minutes. The security was pathetic and their software was clumsy. I then returned it and bought Linksys WRT54G, the software so very easy to use, and setup took less than 5 minutes. I have not touched my router since. I get full signal all over my townhome. Must buy!

Good price but range is not very good, March 15, 2008
By T. Matsumoto (USA)
My old Buffalo wireless router died and I bought this as a replacement. Setting the unit and network was very easy.
I am not happy with its service range. At first I placed it where old one was but I could get signal on my laptop in a bedroom. I needed to place much closer to the bedroom.

If you're hacking the firmware DON'T get this version, March 15, 2008
By D. Caslin (Baltimore, MD USA)
I bought this by mistake and had to return it. Linksys has lowered the built in RAM on this router in newer versions and it will not run full versions of most open source firmware (like Tomato or DDR). I returned this and got the nice WRT54GL version and am happily running Tomato right now. Please don't get this by mistake if you want to hack the firmware...

Linksys WRT54G Wireless-G Router
Setup is easy. Secure Easy Setup function makes it easy to connect wireless devices. However, I have had to configure the router a few times since the first installation.

Linksys Wireless-G Router, March 12, 2008
By Novice (San Ramon, CA)
Linksys WRT54G Wireless-G RouterThis router works great. We had difficulty hooking it up so I called Linksys Technical Support and they worked with us until it was up and running. We've had no further problems. We have a desktop and a notebook up and running.

Installation challenges with Mac, March 12, 2008
By B. Coston
Fair warning - if you have a Mac, the installation CD included with the router will not work for you. I spent about a half hour on the phone with their customer service department. They were able to walk me through the install, and it's working fine, but just know it's going to take some time to get things up and running. They are aware of the problem, but don't seem to be making any moves to upgrade the CD include Mac users.

WRT54G...Fast Dying Product, March 10, 2008
By Reaper2325 (Little Falls, NY USA)
I've had three revisions of this model the v3, v5, and the v8. All revisions died the same way: after a year to 2 years they stop working. I can no longer access the internet with either routers. If I do manage to get out to the 'Net, they loose their connections fairly quick.
I still have my Linksys BEFW11S4 wireless router which still works perfect, except for only being wireless-B. So I have a linksys WAP54G access point hooked in to give me my Wireless-G.
I would avoid this router. When my v5 died, I thought it was a fluke, then got a v8. The v8 died the same way, now I beleive it is a manufacturing flaw that Linksys won't fix.

Linsys WRT54G, March 10, 2008
By Peiman (Ohio)
I bought the linsys WRT54G to be able to get on xbox live and be on the internet on the same time. Also to have wi-fi on my ipod touch. The router works great. It never stops working. It has never crashed or anything. Wi-fi speed is amazing. I would recommand this product to first time router buyers.

Lacking in features and performance, March 9, 2008
By Alan Math (Provo, UT)
I recently purchased the Linksys wrt54g version 8. I have been disappointed with the on screen configuration utility. For example, there is no command to reboot. If you need to reboot, you have to physically unplug the power from the router. The configuration utility is awkward for setting up schedules for multiple computers.

Linksys WRT54G Wireless G-Router, March 9, 2008
By Ronald J. Orr
Had one of these at my college house, worked great there, this one works great here. Due to the wireless feature of the modem, the connection can be a bit jumpy if you're playing any online games or streaming video like watching sports games live on a site. All wireless modems have that drawback and this one actually shows less of delay then other modems that I have seen before. A good product overall

Linksy Router, March 8, 2008
By hockey_Crazed (Michigan)
This router does great for our home use. The router is located in the basement, and the computers that use it are located in the opposite corner of the first floor and there is not problems with it connecting.

It's OK... some pros and cons,, March 6, 2008
By S. Wang
I bought the Linkys router for my family. The setup was fairly easy, but then around 2 months later, I started having problems with the network and always had to reset the whole entire thing, which was a long process. I guess maybe I did something wrong, but it got quite annoying. But now it's working fine. I would probably reccomed it.

Solid BG Router, March 6, 2008
By R. Sneed (Missouri)
I bought this product to replace a solid performing Linksys WAP54A (yes 802.11a) product. I really only needed a B/G access point since I already had a fine Zoom DSL modem/router. But since the Router was cheaper than the B/G Access Point (?) I bought it. I found it fairly difficult to install when an existing router/DHCP server is on the network. But after a couple hours of IP addressing fun and switching around which device did the DHCP hand out, it was up and running. The firmware that came on the unit was v8.0.2 which seems to work just fine with NO drops (time will tell). I also noticed that the range was much improved over my 802.11a Linksys product. The unit is located in the 2nd floor office, and I can easily receive 100% signal in the far corner of the basement. I'm happy with the purchase, but Linksys could have better documentation available for router to router connections.

I've seen three of these fail so far, March 6, 2008
By xygxag (Saratoga Springs, NY United States)
I do some basic network consulting on the side, and have seen three WRT54G routers fail so far. One was mine, two were customers'. Of the ten or so that I've worked with, thats around a 30% failure rate. Not so good. When they work, they're great. The failures generally came after power outages, so it's likely to do with the power supply and/or conditioning in the power circuit in the router. In any event, I have not seen this failure rate in the D-Link, Netgear or Buffalo routers that I have worked with.

Needs to be rebooted once a week., March 5, 2008
By A. Goodman
I have the WRT 54g v8. Router. Every so often, it drops the connection. It becomes useless until you reboot it. I was surfing yesterday, using my Pocket PC. Everything was fine. I tried a couple of hours later and I got the message Invalid Key. I went to my wired computer and I could not get online. I used the Easylink advisor and it showed that it could not find the SSID or the key or anything. So I had to reboot. This has happened twice so far. I did not spend as much time trouble shooting this time because I had seen it before. It looks like it will stay up for about a week before I have to reboot. I can live with it but I expected better.

Wii user here THAT WAS EASY, March 2, 2008
By Wii Owner (Elgin, IL)
I got this STRICTLY for the Wii because we have our internet connection on the other side of the house. After FIGHTING with an older router I had from Dell For several hours and a couple hours on the phone I was still unabe to connect to the intrnet with my PC much less the Wii. I gave up, went to Circuit City and bought this one. I was amazed how quickly I had it up and running. I think with my PC maybe 10 minutes (most of that was the CD spinning) and then 10 more minutes working on my Wii and I was in. I printed off the information from the router and saved it to my hard drive (both are suggested to you while you are waiting) , took it to the living room punched in the information in to my Wii from the router and I was shocked it worked. After working all day long on the old router I was little upset I didn't just spend the $50 right away. I am not a tech guy at all, but I found it to be VERY simple. It works great. My wife is playing the Wii in the living room and I am at the PC. It was as easy as 123. If you can read and follow directions you will be fine. I was a little shocked it only had a sleeve holding the CD with 2 directions. I thought oh wow what if....but don't worry it is so easy.
