    Warning to AT&T high-speed internet customers, July 5, 2007
By Kevin Pollem (San Diego, CA)
I'm sure under the right circumstances this is a great product. In fact, I use a Linksys wireless router at home with a Linksys cable modem and have never had any problems.
HOWEVER: If you use AT&T DSL, this product ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY DOES NOT WORK with a Siemens SpeedStream 4100 DSL modem. AT&T does not give you the option of using any modem but the one they send you so do yourself a favor and try a web search using the name of your modem and the name of the router you are thinking of purchasing to find any compatibility issues.

    Nightmare, June 29, 2007
By Garyswayze (NYC, New York)
Buying this wireless router turned out to be the singularly most frustrating experience I've ever encountered with any product. When -- after a good deal of difficulty and a long call with customer service -- it finally was up and running, connectivity was only intermittent. Customer service is a nightmare . . . waiting, waiting, waiting to get a live person . . . then after more than an hour of diagnostic testing they tell me the router is defective (duh) and that I will need to call another number to "apply" for a replacement under the warranty. When I do, I'm told that before they can accept that the product is TRULY defective, more tests will have to be run and that I will need to call tech support again for that. So I do . . .and after literally two more hours on the phone, they confirm absolutely that the product is defective and that I REALLY can call the other number to "apply" for that replacement . . when I do call the other number (they call it the "RMA Department"), they want a deposit on my credit card before they will ship so they can be assured I'll actually send them the defective one! After all that incompetence, should I have to entrust them with my credit card information? And what're they going to do with the defective product?? Sell it to YOU???? . . . . You get the picture.

I have a NetGear wireless router in my other home that works like a dream. Steer clear of this Linksys product.

Linksys is ok, June 27, 2007

Does everything it is designed to do. Gives very good range of operation throughout the house. This one replaces a similar unit that got fried during a electrical storm.

Very unreliable router, June 21, 2007
By shop-a-ho-lic (NJ USA)
This router doesn't work well and all I can get is limited connectivity throughout the day. It drops connection as often as 5 or 6 times a day. I have called the technical support and nothing helps. Searched online for solutions, tried everything I could and nothing works. If you have time to reset the router throughout the day, then buy it. I will just throw this piece of junk into the garbage.

Setting up my Linksys router was a breeze. All you have to do is insert the CD and follow directions. It took 15 minutes to get my secured wireless network going; you don't have to be a tech-nerd to figure it out. It works flawlessly for me--fast connections and good signal strength.

    I wish I could give it 0 stars., June 19, 2007

I have had this router for over a year and it has been nothing but trouble and headaches since day 1. It's just extremely unreliable. It goes to "limited or no connectivity" multiple times a day--often dozens of times a day. It loses the connection completely when trying to view streaming video. I recently replaced it with a Netgear wireless router, which works perfectly. And now the Linksys wireless router is where it belongs... in the trash.

It just works!, June 12, 2007

If you have one pc in your network you easily can hook up this device. Easy cd instructions. Macs work with it too all you have to do is connect to the sever after it's been set up. It doesn't save a bunch of crap on your computer. You don't need to buy their apdapters for the router to work. If your adapters and internet are fast and up to date you don't need speedboost. If you have comcast cable internet I highly recommend! The only thing that would be better is if you could share a printer. WEP, WPA1, & WPA2 all are included. Easy reset and re install if you make a mistake on set up. I just works!

Great price, excellent product, June 12, 2007

Intallation a little tricky, due to our COX modem. You need to remove the battery, otherwise the system doesn't fully reset. Otherwise, the wireless in great!

Works but Installation Difficult, June 11, 2007
By A. H. McCurdy
The product works fine but the installation process could use some serious improvement. Best as I can tell, if you want to change something, you have to start at the beginning. For instance, I first tried WPA2 following the direction for keys. However, Windows Vista didn't like the key length. So, I started over and gave it a new key.

Then I learned that XP doesn't like WPA2. So, I used WPA -- again having to start over.

Allegedly there's some web interface. I tried that but ran into problems. There was an obscure error, that I forget. (I didn't realize there'd be a "test" (this review) or I'd have taken better notes).

Anyway, once it's installed, the router works fine.

    great router, June 11, 2007

Nice Basic Router, June 9, 2007
By Z.M. (Houston, TX)
I like this router. I am not very savvy when it comes to computer technology, but it was a breeze setting this router up(if I can do it, anyone can). I just used the installation cd. I have a two story home and I can use my laptop all over the house, even with the doors shut. I have not lost the signal yet. I do have thin walls though. I only use my laptop for web surfing, emailing, etc. I don't transfer files so I can't say anything about the transfer speed. Overall, This is an easy router to set up and great for sharing an internet connection.

Linksys is a good solid product:, June 8, 2007

When I need a router after reviewing the different brands I choose Linksys. The hardward, installation program, and the support simply works. That's all you can ask for.

    Performance degradation, June 8, 2007
By Paul (Haymarket, VA)
With 1000+ reviews of this item a lengthy discourse seems unnecessary, so I'll focus only on my key observations of this product.

I previously used a NetGear router hooked up to my Comcast cable modem to facilitate internet access. I host a small web site to share images with friends & family. My web server has always used a wired connection to the router.

The NetGear died on me and I replaced it with this product.

Configuration complexity of the NetGear and WRT54G products was equal.

The WRT54G has proven more reliable than the NetGear, not a single reboot needed for 1+ year.

The WRT54G, though being a significantly newer product, and with Comcast constantly increasing upstream and downstream bandwidth in my area, is significantly (4-8x) slower than the NetGear serving web pages -- so much so that friends & family no longer bother.

4* configuration flexibility
5* reliability
1* performance
==============
3* overall

    Can't Go Wrong, June 7, 2007
By Jason
This router is one of the best. You really can't go wrong with this thing. Linksys really makes some great quality products.

The only reason I gave this a 4 is because you can't properly flash this model with DD-WRT. You need the Linux version.Linksys-Cisco WRT54GL Wireless-G Broadband Router (Compatible with Linux) It's worth the extra cost if you know how to flash it.
