This is a worthless piece of garbage, December 8, 2007
By Andy Sab (Europe)
5 out of 6 people I've heard buying this, me included, had huge problems with it. The main problem is it freezes randomly and often very soon. That's enough to make it fly through the window (I'm going to do that). Web configuration is a mess and very slow. It doesn't assign static ip to mac addresses (by design) but then the dhcp server works only when it's in a good mood. I think that explains the low price compared to the good reviews: if it works it's great value for the money, but most of them just don't work !

    Great Wireless G Router, December 7, 2007
By MLyons (Dumfries, VA USA)
Works without fail - my old Netgear Wireless G router would crash after moving large files or sustained downloads but those problems are gone with the Linksys WRT54GS. Two wireless computers and one wireless bridge serving 3 additional computers and a internet enabled NAS without a single crash. I'm very pleased. Plenty of signal strength to serve a 3 story home (router on middle floor).

Nice unit, set up CD makes it easy and if you need it, 24 hour support. Nice people!

Had to return it, December 6, 2007
By Session Guitarist
This looks like a great router, and sure costs enough, but I had to return it. After spending hours just trying to get my laptop to autoload the config software I gave up. Whatever was on that disc crashed my laptop multiple times, and never loaded the setup. I tried everything, running the setup.exe from Run, etc. It seemed the laptop didn't even recognize the disc and crashed explorer on top of that (I couldn't even open the DVD-rom drive). With 2 kids, working from home in the evenings and my previous router crapping out, I don't have the time or desire to figure this one out. I can't comment on the router itself, but the software disc definitely has some major issues going on.

I'm running XP SP1 Professional, 1 gig dual core, 1 gig ram, built in WiFi. My HP laptop is a year old, so definitely no issues with having outdated specs.

I returned it for a Belkin G+, so we'll see what happens with that. I wish everyone better luck with the Linksys that I had!

Pay attention to your cordless phone!!!, December 5, 2007
By Rodger Lindemann
As with any linksys hardware, this is a great device for price and function. Easy to install, easy to secure, easy to add network devices, but pay close attention to the band width of your cordless phone. The phone will win if there is a conflict.

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES, December 4, 2007
By C. Atkins (New York, New York United States)
Under no circumstances should you buy this piece of crud, which would not work even after an hour and a half on the phone with the (really quite nice and thorough) tech in the Phillipines. The device worked great as a wired router but would not allow me to connect to the internet even though my laptop said I had an "excellent" connection. After 90 minutes of changing every conceivable setting on my laptop, the tech told me that the router was defective. My Netgear router never gave me a problem. Go Netgear.

Best router I have found, December 2, 2007
By Jere Griffing (Arizona)
I have used several routers for wireless and voip and this one was the easiest to install. Following the instructions and everything worked perfectly. You can add up to 4 different wireless or voip. Great product.

Added this onto my DSL router to use my laptop in the house.
Excellent. Would buy again. No problems at all.

Nice, when it works, November 27, 2007
By zeetwo8 (Lincoln Park, Michigan USA)
Just another reviewer saying that the router requires rebooting at least once a week. If I had a router like this on my enterprise network, it would be stomped on and made into little bits. If you want top quality wireless, get the Cisco 1200 or the like. This stuff is cheap to buy and has its problems.

Great Product - Highly Recommended, November 17, 2007

Fairly easy setup & configuration, with context-sensitive help available for most items if necessary. Excellent wireless operation, range, speed, reliability, and security. Cold boot 2-3 times per year (unplug for 30 seconds), otherwise works flawlessly.

Simple Setup and Superb Performance, November 15, 2007
By J. Herrington
Verizon FIOS supplied a D-Link 624 AirPlus Extreme G wireless router (model DI-624) with their installation last year. While the D-link router's hardwire LAN worked fine, the wireless connectivity was extremely poor. Fugetaboutit on the opposite side of the house. Maybe 2 bars sitting 3 feet away. External antenna, tweak this, tweak that, calls to Verizon Help Desk, nothing improved the wireless connectivity. Based on the positive reviews below, bought the WRT54GS, installed in 15 min, and we now have full bars and 54Mbps wireless connectivity. Proof is the evidence. Highly recommend this unit.

Solid, no surprises, November 14, 2007
By Brian Oxley (Houston, TX)
I have long appreciated Linksys products, and this one is no exception. Everything works as expected on the first try, no surprises. The configuration is clean and clear, even better than the last Linksys router I used.

Particularly nice was that when entering a list of MAC addresses for restricting access to wireless, it presented a prefilled list based on what it sniffed from the nearby aether, so I did not need to work out my laptop's MAC address on my own.

Parental control was important to me, November 13, 2007
By The FT Clan (Oak Ridge, Tn USA)
After some help from the tech desk, this thing works very well. The only problem is that I bought it partially because of the parental control. After using for a couple of years, I am getting a message now that reads:

"The Linksys Parental Controls service is no longer accepting subscription renewals.
We apologize for any inconvenience and encourage you to look for other Parental Controls options before your subscription expires"

This is VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE- especially given that the parental control features are still be advertised. And frankly, anyone who has children with access to the net needs parental control if they plan on sleeping at night.

    Excellent Product, November 9, 2007

The Linksys WRT54GS router is easy to install...directions come with pictures that respond to what you do. I can pick up a signal from my upstairs office all the way to porch in back of house.
Great product!

    Awesome Router, November 8, 2007
By Jimmy (Venezuela)
I just installed it and have 3 computers surfing internet with no problems. I think this is a need in home and in work. This router is working with my Laptop, Celular Phone, My PC Card -Dlink (computer desktop) and USB Dlink (of my other computer desktop) and no problems.

    10 Stars! Excellent Service., November 6, 2007

I've had many issues and the customer service just never stops delivering. If every company had service that is willing to allow you to walk away from the phone and go eat a sandwich, this world would be unstoppable! Ten stars!

Defective product, horrible customer service, November 6, 2007
By Texas Mommy
After two hours on the phone with customer service people with attitudes, I realized I bought a piece of junk and plan to order a brand new broadband router from another company. What a waste of my time and money. In a nutshell, this router did not work. All I wanted to do was hook up the router to one desk top and one laptop. The customer service rep, whom I could not hear because the line was breaking up because I guess it was overseas and I could not understand because of her heavy accent, told me I needed win zip to upgrade my router. When I told her I didn't have one, she said I should go to the computer store, buy Win Zip, and use it for the 30 day trial. I should download it on my laptop. Then I should return the software telling the store that I'm not satisfied with it. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I repeated it back to her, saying that she wanted me to buy software and return it because I needed it to upgrade my defective Linksys router? Basically, she was asking me to lie and steal from a store? She said yes, it's not a big deal. I couldn't believe it.

I will never buy another Linksys product again. Defective product and extremely unprofessional. I would have given zero stars if that was an option.

Linksys Wireless Router, November 4, 2007
By golftee (Houghton Lake ,MI)
This router was easy to install and it worked the very first time I installed it. I tried a Belkin router before this one and after three times of returing it to the store, because I couldn't get it to work even with their tech support, I traded up to this system and have not had a problem yet. I also have the Linksys USB adapter that receives the signal from this router and it works fine to.

Not to good, October 30, 2007
By J.A
To set up, it's really slow, what is worse is that I bought the usb wireless with the speedbooster and the signal that picks up it's terrible, and for the other laptops that I connected, I sony vaio, a 2 Dell laptops, they disconnect, conflict with DHCP all the time, not very good, I recomend most dlink routers, I have one of those I it's great.

Linksys are both at home and office. The office unit serve 6 busy users in our Apple network. Speedy and seamless - great product for the price.
