If you need Tech Support... forget it, June 9, 2008
By user
The unit performs well but because of my system I had to call tech support. Of course it was in India. After 60 mins with one agent I got sent to the "senior advisor" They resolved the issue quickly. It was not complicated and the first agent should have been able to do the same thing. After 80 mins on the phone I was done. My prior wireless units have all been D-Link and I never had any issues. Pretty much plug and go. I bought Linksys on the advise of a knowledgable associate. The unit works good but I can not get the access point to work. No time to deal with tech support on that issue.

Great router at great price, June 4, 2008
By user (IL USA)
As long as you keep your router up to date with the firmware, this router works great. sometimes when internet/network is congested, it helps to re-do the power cycle.
Though Linksys customer support isn't the best, there are many forums available that are just as helpful, or even more helpful to solve problems.
I'm planning to use this router until I use N-based wireless.

NO SUPPORT, June 4, 2008
By user (Horn Lake, MS USA)
I purchased this router from another supplier. The router I have is defective. You can smell the wires burning. I have been unable to contact anybody at Linksys about this problem even though they allegedly have a replacement policy. Unfortunately, the only country option they give is Canada while stating they must know what country you bought this router in. This router only worked about 3 weeks. I strongly recommend no one buy this routher.

Linksys Wireles Router, June 2, 2008
By user (Trinidad)
Great product. Setup was a breeze and it performs just as the manufacturer claims. It actually performs better than I expected. 100% satisfaction guaranteed.

Excellent, June 2, 2008

The router was simple to install and Linksys makes it easy to follow a step by step CD to connect your router to an existing network. I received this item from very fast. I received it before it was supposed to arrive. Great Job and Thanks.

It took two service calls to get my router to work correctly. One to Linksys to get the router to talk to my desktop, and one to my internet provider to get the router to talk to the modem. Both problems were resolved with one call to each customer service department. The router works very well, with enough range to cover my whole house plus more. It's also fast enough for my needs.

Works Great Sometimes, May 29, 2008

When working this router is awesome. There were occasions in a two week period that it would stop altogether and have to be reset. This would go on for hours. I finally had to replace unit with latest version. No more problems now.

I replaced a one year old Netgear G router with the WRT54GS and have been very impressed. I have had no problems with drops, and the speed is considerably faster than any other G router I have used. Easy to recommend!

Not worth all the hype, May 22, 2008
By user (Garner, NC USA)
I thought with how immensely popular this router is I would be 100% completely satisfied and not encounter any problems. But I was wrong. About a week passed by before I started experiencing random connectivity problems. It all started when I began using uTorrent, a popular bit torrent peer-to-peer software. At first the software would connect and download fine but it would eventually lose connection and I wouldn't be able to connect to the Internet at all. The only resolution was to cycle power to the router. But it would keep doing this over and over as I continued to use uTorrent. However, the problem disappears when I connect directly to my cable modem, I can connect and download just fine. And yes, I properly forwarded all the ports on the router. So I narrowed it down to being this router and after further research on the Internet I find that I'm not the only one with this and other issues with the WRT54G line of routers. See for yourself, just Goggle search "WRT54GS connection problem." You'll discover that this router has numerous issues with any peer-to-peer software and dropping connections for apparently no reason at all. There are other shortcomings with this router as well. First, you cannot log out of the router after you have logged in. This poses a security issue and should be a no-brainer feature that every router should have, even the cheap ones. Second, there is no feature to create a MAC filter list for wired clients. Third, you cannot assign static IP addresses to connected clients and exclusively associate a certain client with a certain IP. People claim there is a work around to this by assigning those machines IPs that are out of the DHCP range. This seems more like a simple fix more than an intended function. Fourth, you don't have to type a user name in order to log into the router. The only thing that is authenticated when you log into the router is the password. Seems like another security issue since requiring a user name adds another layer of safety. I guess that I'm too use to my old D-Link DGL-4300 router which has absolutely every feature you could want. I just figured that the popular Linksys WRT54GS would have these otherwise standard features. I am less than impressed with this router. Sure it might be great if you want to install an aftermarket firmware on it but straight out of the box with the default firmware this router leaves a lot to be desired. A lot.

Great Way to Go Wireless, May 22, 2008

I have to admit that I had a computer-savvy friend here, but this router installed quickly and functioned perfectly on the first try. I would highly recommend the Linksys to anyone who wants to get rid of all the connector wires.

A ROUTER THAT WORKS, May 14, 2008
By user
I bought a Trendnet router that donesn't work well. The signal was up and down. This router was gone to other country and the return goint to be to expensive. I decided to buy a new one. A Linksys. I received the Linksys router and it works excellent all day. It has a strong signal than my mother two blocks away receive coverage.

Good product, May 14, 2008

Love this unit, is so easy to setup. Great price. have had it up and running for almost a year now, no problems. I do recommend useing the security encriptions and turn off broadcasting, unless you don't mind people freeloading off your highseed and slowing down your connections.

Piece of crap, May 8, 2008
By user (Reno, Nevada)
This is my first experience with a wireless system, and I am greatly disappointed. Setup was fairly easy, I will admit to that. But, the first router died in two days, the second lasted only a couple of weeks. I'm returning it for another brand. Belkin?
When the router was working, it would cut out all the time, several times a day. I could never use my laptop in my bedroom, because the signal was too weak. And I live in a one story, 1800 sq ft home.
I even tried buying the wireless booster to help get signal to the bedroom, and I never could get it to work properly. It was a bear to install, and even after being on the phone with customer service twice, we still couldn't get it to work.
Customer service for Linksys is a big joke. I was on hold half an hour before I ever got a human being, then another half an hour with each tech to try to fix the problem. And the tech that worked with me was in Isreal! One tech even treated me like I was four years old, with no computer experience!
This piece of crap is going back, and I'm trying a whole new system. I will never buy a Linksys again. I wish there was something lower than one star, it doesn't even deserve that.

Good Product, May 7, 2008

Easy to install and the wizard makes connection to the computer/internet very easy. Pretty reliable although very occasionally fails to connect and needs rebooting, especially when connected via wireless.

Eh, its okay., May 7, 2008

i guess this isn't a bad product. I do not see a difference in this expensive router shooting the signal any father than my cheap belkin did. i don't think its worth the money.

A very difficult company to deal with, May 6, 2008
By user (Weehawken, New Jersey United States)
This is a bad company. I purchased a wireless router from them and, truth be told, it never really worked right. The speed was ok, but it was impossible to set up without tech support and every so often it would simply stop working. When that happened I would be forced to call tech support and spend 30-60 minutes on the phone fighting with them about resetting the router. I recently purchased a new computer and decided to save a little money by moving this router to it. When I called tech support I was told that the router was out of its warranty period and they could not help me... unless I would pay them to. That's right, I would have to pay for the assistance on their product - a working product because it was not under warranty.
So be warned that you are only buying the option to use Linksys' products for a limited time - that is if you have any problems whatsoever that require tech support. I am now trying a Trendnet. Let's see if they are any better.
