    A Great Router - Fast - Reliable, August 12, 2007
By Scientific Copywriting: Get More Conversions - http://www.powerwriting.com (Midwest U.S.A.)
Let me preface this by saying I already owned a Linksys G router (Version 1) and the one I bought and about which I'm writing is version 7. So that's a big step. But the point is, I was familiar with Linksys and already had one installed.

Whereas my first installation some three years ago made me pull my hair, this one was fast and easy. It took no more than one hour.

Just remember to use the default password, not your old one, when you go in to configure the router. Actually, most of the configuring is done for you. But if you have even a basic knowledge of wireless networking, this is a very simple router to install.

It improved my speed on all of my computers immensely. But by way of disclosure, I must tell you that I also installed a new modem. I was tired of dropped connections and a very slow Internet --- especially since I pay for the fastest speed Cox has.

I highly recommend this router. Be sure and upgrade your firmware as soon as you get it installed. And keep the firmware updated. Upgrading the firmware is a very easy and fast operation and should be done.

The instructions are good. They're brief but all you need. Be sure and read everything as it will help you with any issue that comes up.

Best Router out there, August 11, 2007
By M. Falcone
I have tried many routers and this is the best and easiest router out there you can. Anyone can do the setup it is idiot-proof. I was able to setup and run my router with a network cable, wirelessly, and also with my PS3 all in less than 1 hour. Without having to open up the ports. This router has all of the ports open that you need to play online with your PS3. No phone calls needed just put the CD in and follow the instructions it's that easy.

this is a great router with great phone support. I would have it given it a 5 star but the instructions are way too vague. Customer support worked me through everything though.

    Works Great, August 1, 2007

This is my first router and it works great. The directions for setting up the router are easy to follow and settings are easily changed any time. I have a laptop computer and a Soundbridge music product using the router and the wireless connection is strong. I recommend this router.

The Linksys WRT54GS Wireless-G Broadband Router with SpeedBooster works very well - I have been quite happy about its performance compared to others that I've had. Delivery was also prompt.

Very easy setup. Good performance in regards to speed and stable connection. Did lose configuration settings once, but good phone support.

    Linksys Router, July 21, 2007
By John M. Johnston (Houston, TX USA)
The Linksys Router (WRT54-GS) has been in place and working for 3 weeks. It installed perfectly and quckly and is providing me with not only wireless routing to my laptop and handheld computer, it is routing to 5 other computers in my home flawlessly.

This router replaced an older Linksys that was damaged by lightning, and I would recommend it to anyone needing a reasonably priced wireless-G device.

Very Overrated and a Waste of Money, July 21, 2007
By papahill (Ohio, U.S.A.)
This is my 3d Linksys wireless router, and also the biggest piece of garbage I've ever bought. It installs easily as far as wired goes, but the wireless portion takes forever to connect. I've used a Asente wireless network card for a few years with the other routers with no problems. This router took forever to connect. I bought a Linksys Speedbooster card. What a waste of money. And they're speed increase of 35% is made up. There is NO increase.
It still takes forever to connect. Anyone looking at this router should save their money. Stick with the WRT54G.

Very happy with this purchase, July 20, 2007
By RLC (Sacramento, CA)
I purchased this router with a somewhat cynical slant, thinking that the speedbooster thing is just a marketing gimic. But decided to buy it anyway. My old router connection was moving at a snails pace and was driving me nuts, so what the heck! Couldn't be worse, right? The package arrived and I started the set up. I'm no computer genius, so I was very pleased to see that the instructions for set up were sooooo easy! Literally, anyone could follow the instructions and successfully set up their network. And I have noticed a difference in the speed as well. No, it's not lightening quick, but it's faster than my old router and it looks cooler too. ;) All in all, I'm very happy with my overall experience with this product.

    Loses Connection, July 19, 2007
By try again (Charlotte)
I have this router. I have been pretty unhappy with it. It loses the connection very easily, if the microwave is on or if one of the cordless phones is on (or a call comes in). I had a D-Link router before that never had any problems with dropping connection. Also, the software that comes with the router is okay for someone who doesnt really want to do anything as far as adjusting settings. But to make any adjustments to the router (such as set up security, MAC Filtering, etc) it is kind of a pain. If I had to buy it again...I'd pass.

PS-The speed booster doesnt really make a difference for us mortals with cable modem connections.

    pretty decent, July 17, 2007

Love it, wireless works a lil faster, 10 times easier to install than its predecessor. Software is more flashy than anything else but helps the unexperienced user.

Worth the money!

    Spotty coverage, July 16, 2007

I'm not sure it's my building or what, but sometimes I lose the connection within my own apartment. Generally provides decent coverage.

So easy to use!, July 16, 2007
By book horder (United States)
After getting sick of sharing one broadband connection with the rest of my family (2 computers, one connection - it worked when I was away at school, but when at home, not so much!), we decided to build our own little network. I researched wired and wireless routers, and eventually decided on wireless based on the recommendations of several friends and colleagues. Enter the Linksys WRT54GS. The router was easy to set up, and the EasyLink Advisor program that came with the router used very easy to follow instructions. I was able to set up our network in under an hour.

The negatives:

EasyLink, while easy to use, is a little cumbersome. It seems to move pretty slowly, though the directions are, again, easy to follow, and illustrated.

Wireless connections are indeed affected by barriers. Like walls and floors/ceilings! The connection quality across the house isn't as good as, of course, in the same room as the router.

    Horrible Router!, July 14, 2007
By Scrapalatte (Grand Rapids, MI)
Our first linksys lasted 8 years, this has been in our house for a month and we give up, it is worthless. On the phone with Linksys support for 2 hours not much help and difficult to understand. The one button set up is a joke. Like other reviewers, this router crashed constantly, we restart the thing 7-10 times per day. Junk!

    Bad!, July 13, 2007
By Jane E. Lampman (Indiana, USA)
This router is the worst we have ever had. It crashes every other time we try to use the wireless network. We have to uplug it and restart everything to get our computers to connect. Also, the wizard meant to help troubleshoot problems doesn't work properly.

    Great deal, July 12, 2007

I had checked prices at other stores, and got a great deal here.
Also shipping speed was incredible it was (WoooShhh).

I have purchased 3 of these routers and each of them have gone out at around 18months.

    The difference between WRT54G and WRT54GS, July 8, 2007
By Mian Rashid Sajjad (Atlanta, GA)
This is a great product from a great company. I've used Netgear, Dlink, US Robotics wireless routers and all had some kind of issues at some point, resolved though. It does not have the most slickest setup interface but it's good enough.

The basic difference between this speedbooster & regular version (WRT54G) is amount of RAM. You need it when the router the really busy moving data (consider running BitTorrent or Shareaza) since the router has to do a lot of data packet management. For general surfing/downloading you will NOT notice any difference. One distinction though, this does not have quality of service guarantee(QoS) for Video/VOIP but the regular one does meaning making sure VOIP data is given priority over other data so if you do a lot of video conferencing/video chat/VOIP calls this is not a valuable option over the regular one. Though this does drop in performance a lot when i tested it with Shareaza downloads so it does not seems its up to the performance but hey, if you get it at a good price, go for it.

Works great. Had to call linksys for help setting it up. They were very helpful and it was free to call them.

Best Linksys Router Yet !, July 8, 2007
By Director of NEIH.COM:Hypnosis Guru (Tucson, AZ USA)
I've hooked up wireless routers before, all of them Linksys, and it's taken 30 minutes to find out it wasn't working, hairpulling, and the worst--talking with tech support to try to get it fixed.

After moving to a new place, I reluctantly bought another Linksys router, left it sitting in the box a week or so, and finally started the laborious process over again, only to find that it took 5 minutes without any hairpulling or tech support.

This router seems to have made a slow DSL connection faster, which is a bonus, and the old ethernet cable is crammed into a drawer where I hope it will stay forever.

If you feel a tic starting at the corner of your mouth at the thought of setting up a new router, buy this router. With the Easy Link Advisor feature, you are walked through each step, complete with pictures on your computer screen, and it only takes 5 minutes.

I highly recommend this router. You will love it.
