    Useless support/service., July 1, 2007
By K. R. Smith (West Coast)
I called to get help with the router - I set it up but it would not work.
The Linksys service rep spent nearly 5 minutes getting all of the serial numbers from the router and wireless card. I had to repeat the numbers atleast six times.
Then she had me unplug the internet from the modem.
She said the problem was with Comcast! Then she hung up on me.
If you buy from Linksys you are on your own. They will do nothing to help you. Buy another brand.

Ignore the negatives - Stupid people, June 29, 2007
By the network dude (USA)
I've been ordering the WRT54GS for a fortune 500 company for the past 3 years. It has been the most reliable router manufactured by the three vendors we use. I'm responsible for tracking the issues and we've only had 14 of these units to be DOA on arrival for the 1200+ routers of this model currently in use. And that's tracking the routers after 16 months of use. After 16 months, all units still function properly except for 7 (excluding the 14 returned for replacement). Perhaps there are a lot of competitors trying to bring down the rating of this unit? Who knows, but I'd take the negatives with a grain of salt. This is the unit I use in my personal home network and it has been flawless. P.S. If you don't transfer files between PCs on your wireless network that often, you could go with the model without the SpeedBooster option since this is really the only benefit you gain from it.

Didn't work and install software messed up my laptop, June 22, 2007
By hierophant (Garden of Earthly Delights)
I purchased this router to replace another wireless router that kept dropping connections. Upon opening the box I was greeted with a big warning sticker that said "Run CD before plugging in router!" OK - so I ran through the install instructions with the CD and I could literally never connect to the Internet and my laptop wouldn't see the network. I tried for about 6 hours, running through every set of troubleshooting instructions I could find. I finally gave up completely and returned the router.

Now, even though I uninstalled the Linksys software - the wireless settings on my laptop get changed about 3 minutes after I boot up, preventing me from connecting to my current network. The only software I have installed is Linksys install - so it is clear that there is something still resident in my system that is rendering my laptop incapable of connecting to any wireless network.

Disappointed BIG TIME, June 19, 2007
By Susan L. Wells
I rec'd the router and it did not work. Upon calling Linksys for assistance they told me i needed a different model. I returned it upon the instructions from the box to California for a new router. That was back in April. Today is June 18th and I have not rec'd my new router nor have I rec'd a refund of the $75.00 I paid for it. This is not acceptable...I would appreciate someone at leaST responding to me. Thank you. Susan Wells (swells4617@comcast.net)

This is a terrible product, sometimes needing rebooting every few minutes. I will never purchase another Linksys product after owning this one.

My home wireless network's performance had never been what one would call reliable and was seriously degrading in recent days, so I replaced my old card and router with the LinkSys Wireless G router and card. It was fairly easy to set up and now I can say that for the first time the home wireless network is performing flawlessly (for the last three days anyway).

First bought this router two years ago, after some minor problems with the IP address, which had to be changed to 192.168.2.1 it has worked marvelously well with absolutely no problems, Just purchased my second such router for my sister in Trinidad and the service is excellent. I am writig this becuse I have read too many bad reviews and my experience has been excellent.

Setup for this unit is NOT for the casual user, had some problems getting connected, but after reading some of the reviews I got the unit on line.

    Excellent router, May 27, 2007
By L Dog (Tuscaloosa, AL)
Linksys WRT54GS Wireless-G Broadband Router with SpeedBoosterRouter works well. Replaced a D-link that I always had problems with and was convinced it was a poor cable connection. The new router confirmed my troubleshooting and it was only the router. We have two PC's and a laptop connected and so far it has worked flawlessly. Would highly recommend this one over any other brand.

Excellent product for the price, May 26, 2007
By yorkshire bloke (Indiana USA)
I installed the WRT54GS on my network - 2 PC's, Laptop and a network hard drive. Setup was easy although I had to work at the Toshiba MS Vista wireless connection.

The only problem I have had is that the unit locks-up occasionally requiring a reset.

super easy set up, May 22, 2007

After not being able to set up my Netgear router after a move, I bought this router. It was so easy to set up, it practically set up itself. It has excellent range as well.

Did what I wanted it to., May 14, 2007
By Tony (USA)
I needed something (not-N) that was relatively cheap, worked "out of the box" (with the Wizard, of course) and had excellent range. I needed to test it by connecting it with a Linksys wired router through a hub and the instructions on the Linksys web site were on point. No problems after two weeks, and it reaches from the basement to the opposite corner of the second floor.

    Good Product, May 8, 2007
By Warlock_Lord (Millbrae, California)
I had some setup problems with this router, because I needed the firmware update which I hadn't downloaded before I tried to set up the network. I installed the firmware upgrade and instantly the problems disappeared and the router setup was complete. Also, it doesn't seem to work at all with the Netgear "B" cards I have on some of my computers, so I will have to update the cards. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, just expensive.

Technical support has been fair. I called during the initial installation and worked with a technician until he realized I needed the firmware update. Once I downloaded the update, I called back to get a technician to walk through the installation with me and no one was available. They said they would call back and never did. I got tired of waiting and installed it myself. Fortunately, didn't have any troubles.

Ultimately, I am pleased with this purchase, although I'm disappointed that it doesn't seem to work with my existing network equipment.
