Hard to say..., January 11, 2007
By Robert Jackson (Southeast - USA)
Sometimes these Linksys routers flake out. Whatever you do, DO NOT upgrade the firmware, it seems to break them.

Easy to install, but I couldn't keep the connection consistent, January 11, 2007
By k.k. (atlanta GA)
When you get the correlating linksys speed boost card, you do get the advertised 50mbps.

I found it fairly easy to install.

Once setup though, I found I lost the wireless connection. I would then have to drag an ethernet cord from my computer to the router, and go thru the wizard to re-set it. This happened probably once a day for a week.
A 10 minute hassle that I wasn't willing to go on with. I still am not sure if I should blame the card or the router

Also, I use my computer for gaming and decided that 50mbps wasn't good enough for me. (ironforge lag anyone?) So i returned the wireless card, and kept the router. I'm using it like a regular-old router with an ethernet, and it works just fine.

Works well for me., January 10, 2007

I really like the Linksys WRT54GS Wireless-G Broadband Router. Not really sure what the SpeedBooster does. Installation out of the box was simple and straight forward (even though I plugged in the wrong line the first time around). WiFI in the house is great, I have a DSL connection with 5 computers hooked up, and my PDA. Everything seems to be working great.

I had a little trouble with the setup, but my IT background kicked in and I quickly figured it out. This should be easy enough for most anyone to install and configure (just read the instructions). I had to reset it a few times at first, but I haven't touched it for over 2 weeks.

I don't know how I ever survived without WIFI!

    Great Router, January 10, 2007
By M. R. Abel (Commerce Twp., MI)
Great speed and reliability. Painless installation/setup with my new desktop Windows XP platform, my 4-yr old desktop XP platform, a new laptop, and an older model with a removable card. I'd buy it again in a heartbeat.

Great product after set up, January 9, 2007
By RodR (New York)
Have had no problems at all since setting up about 3 months ago. Bought it so that I can work from home with boss' laptop. None of the problems others have mentioned about periodically needing to re-boot.

The BIG!! problem was setup. I have a Dell at home and have never had problems with it. The install CD that came with this router wasn't able to complete the install process. Had to spend a LLLOOONNNGGG time with tech support - both on hold and with the rep - to finally get it setup. Never got an explanation why the CD didn't work.

It's been smooth sailing ever since. If I had to replace this for some reason, I would probably buy another one. I'm weirdly loyal that way. Now that I know the kinks, don't want to have to learn someone else's. :-)

    Installation Difficulty, January 9, 2007
By Ullrich Hermann (Corpus Christi, TX USA)
Experienced considerable difficulty in getting this router operational. The technical support from Linksys is unsatisfactory. The support is in India. Although I served two years in that part of the world as a US Diplomat, I experienced considerable language difficulty. Had to resort to e-mail for communication. Because of the techs lacked of knowledge I would be passed from one to another and ultimately be cut off. On one occasion there was a succession of five with no resolution. This difficulty pertained for more than a week with up to four hour daily sessions. I finally resolved the problems on my own.

Very good except for one problem!, January 6, 2007
By simple guy (Memphis, TN USA)
This wireless router is very good. I play online games routinely and it just rocks.
However when the power goes out and comes up again, This router doesn't come up automatically at times. And the settings need to be reset. Which is why 4 stars.

Not Mac Compatible In A Mixed Environment, January 6, 2007
By D. Rathjen (Sonoma County)
I have two wired Window's Pc's and one wireless notebook mixed with a wireless Mac ibook, a great combo that should work in theory. It was pretty easy to set up this environment and all the Window computers were online right away except the Mac. The Mac had no trouble finding the router and it had strong signal strength, but the router could not assign an IP address so you couldn't go online. After awhile I figured I give a call to Linksys tech support for help. After spending 45 minutes waiting on the phone and finally speaking with someone.......I was told Linksys isn't compatible with Mac's and they don't offer much tech help. When I called Apple Tech support their reply was the Linksys router was the problem and when you call Linksys tech support they blamed the Mac for why I wasn't able to go online. Go figure? I did finally get it to work for about a week on my own, but after returning from a 10 day vacation it stopped working. I finally give up wasting my time and then purchased the Hawking Technology Wireless Router that worked right out of the box. This router is better than the Apple Airport and has much greater range. It was also designed to work with both computers in this mixed environment. My suggestion is not to buy this if you are using a Mac, you will waste time trying to fix something that works only part time!

    Great Performance, January 6, 2007

I've had the Linksys router for a few months now and have had no issues. It's always working for me. I especially like the combination of a hard-wired and a wireless router-- great flexibility.

Good value / decent speed, January 6, 2007
By John H. Kooyman (Cottage Grove, MN USA)
Initially had some trouble configuring the router and wireless card (also Linksys). Called Linksys toll free phone number. After about 45 minutes of unplugging and plugging wires and asking them to repeat themselves I threw in the towel. Then used the linksys online IM technician chat which was much better than their phone support. Technician recommended that for U.S. XP customers they have a EasyLink connect process that detects everything and configures accordingly. Accessed this from linksys website and it worked great. Have not had any issues with the equipment. I would buy this product again.

    Speed Booster, January 5, 2007

Lightning got my last Router.... thank goodness. This router is much faster than my last and better range.

    Linksys WRT545GS Router, January 5, 2007
By K. Kagan (Charlotte, NC United States)
This router comes with a (PC) set up CD that set the router up perfectly. The router works well. I use the router with a PC and a Mac. After a firmware upgrade the router stopped giving out automatic DHCP IP addresses to the Mac. Although Linksys does not officially support MACs, with some persistence, a support supervisor solved the problem with demonstrating excellent OS X familiarity.

    Linsky Router, January 4, 2007
By Rita C. Fryer (salado, TX USA)
It is wonderful router! Before I bought it, I called my ISP and asked them to recommend one. They said that the Linsky router is the best. It never drops its signal and works in every room in my house.

    It doesn't work!, January 4, 2007
By Movie Guy
Take a moment and type this model number into Google and you will see how many unhappy customers there are. No matter what I did, I could not get this router to work. I tried using their website support and after downloading fixes and also attempting to connect to an online link -- which is dead -- I tried contacting their online customer support. I was in the queue for over 5 hours and once it got to 1, the queue started all over again. I never got any customer support from this company. I would never buy a Linksys product again after this experience.

    Very Efficient, January 4, 2007

Buy something else!, December 28, 2006
By NewJersey (Roselle Park, NJ United States)
If you want constat problems and you enjoy speaking to a technician in India ... this is the product for you. If you want a good product with good customer service, buy a different brand.
