Description:
Turn up the volume on your Wireless LAN! The Linksys Wireless Signal Booster piggybacks onto your Linksys Wireless Access Point (or Wireless Access Point Router) to increase the effective range and coverage area of the 802.11b network. The added signal strength also helps speed up your close-range communications, because every packet comes through "loud and clear", reducing retransmissions due to reception errors. To install, just stack the Wireless Signal Booster on your Access Point, move the antennas to the Booster, and attach the Booster's twin cables to the Access Point - no drivers or modifications to your setup are necessary. The Linksys Wireless Signal Booster saves wiring costs and helps to build corporate wireless infrastructure by driving signals even into those distant, reflective corners and hard-to-reach areas. And it is perfect for covering large areas in warehouse environments, public spaces, wireless hotspots, and outdoor venues - anywhere you need extra coverage for your wireless LAN.

Booster restores my faith in Wireless hardware., March 9, 2003
By Neil T Sakamoto (Los Angeles,CA USA)
I have had both an A&B based wireless network in my new home only to find the both of them have about 15' range indoors due to the solid nature of the walls. Wireless routers work excellent in wooden modern homes, but in the stone walled home that I am in now, the wireless transmitter worked only in the living room which is obviously a waste of money seeing as how there are 3 computers upstairs. For a time I went back to my trusty 10/100 ethernet setup, but when I found that Linksys offered a signal booster I jumped on it.

I am in fact a big "Neo Geek" but I'll give you all the short version of my review. Installation was simple, (5 minutes) and it boosts the signal quite a bit just as advertised. If you suffer from low signal strength this item WILL help. If you have no signal strength this item WILL MOST LIKELY help by providing a usable connection.

I highly recomend it.

Very helpful product, March 8, 2003

This is a well needed product. I was using a wireless router to connect my computer to my neighbors system. Before purchasing this, I would only get a signal strength of around 20% and quality of poor with occasional loss of signal. After hooking this up, my signal strength went to 66% - (Very good) and remains constant. The computers are about 150 feet apart and the signal has to go through 4 walls and woodsiding. The speed has increased because of reduced / eliminated packet loss.
With this equipment, you could share your high speed internet connection with your neighbor next door and split the bill.

    What a Boost!, March 2, 2003

I ordered the Linksys WSB24 Wireless Signal Booster because my signal strength in my two story house was week in the downstairs rooms. But now with the Wireless Signal Booster, I get full signal strength throughout the entire house! What an unbelievable difference! I would highly recommend this product to anyone who has a Linksys Access Point. Thanks Linksys for developing this great product!

Works as advertised., March 2, 2003
By KC O'Connor (Patterson, NY USA)
I had previously installed the Linksys WAP. It worked well. Much better than the previous 802.11a system that I had installed, which lacked the range and speed advertised.

I was able to get total coverage inside my house, but on my deck, or on the patio, the signal was very weak. I was getting dropped connections from my instant messenging software frequently.

The Signal Booster improved on my range by another 20 to 30 feet, as far as I can tell. It also improved the signal strength in the house from poor to good, and good to very good.

Another thought, I must have looked ridiculous standing outside in snow banks three feet tall my laptop, browsing the web and doing download speed tests, but I wanted to make sure that it worked as advertised.

The Linksys Wireless Signal Booster passed my tests. I'm pleased.

    Nice buy, March 1, 2003

With my wireless router and server in the basement, I had medium reception (50% signal strength and 40% link quality) on my laptop. The reception was almost zero for my other computer in the guest bedroom. After reading a few reviews on the internet I decided to buy a signal booster. It was worth every penny I spent on WSB24 ... I now have 100% on my laptop, 70% on the computer in my guest bedroom.
In a nutshell - A must buy if your signal strenght is either medium or poor.

BEWARE - only buy if you have a Linksys router, February 28, 2003
By Carl A. Redman (Austin, TX United States)
I bought this Linksys signal booster to broaden the range of my wireless network (in an old, two-story home). I connected the booster to my D-Link 614+ wireless router, and the signal actually got worse...almost to the point of no signal at all.

After talking with technical reps from Linksys and D-Link, it turns out that the signal booster is a proprietary product. It will only work with a Linksys router. This is contrary to what the product description says, so DON'T buy it if you don't have a Linksys router!

*Note: If you have a Linksys router, I feel that this product is a worthy buy based on other recommendations. The "one star" rating is based solely on the above comments.

Easy to setup and very helpful, February 28, 2003
By Jeff Mollerup (Memphis, TN USA)
I was helping my father set up his wireless network when we found out he could not get any reception in his living room. Part of the problem was that the wireless signal had to travel through several walls and a fairly long distance.

The setup for this item was very straight forward and completed within a few minutes.

Once connected the reception jumped from poor to no reception to a fair to average reception.

I would highly recommend this product for those experienceing poor quality reception with their Linksys wireless LAN. Even though this booster does have some limitations, it is definitely worth a try if you are getting poor reception in some areas of your house.

    WSB24, not always simple, February 21, 2003
By Wesley D. Henry (Charleston, SC USA)
Installation took 5 minutes, only because my components are under my desk, but then no signal to any wireless device. Powered on/off, no help; changed to original configuration, no signal. Called Linksys and waited 20 minutes. They have had to replace access points which were damaged by the booster; mine only needed to be "hard reset" (don't forget to record your SSID if you changed it from "Linksys" during your initial setup). None of this info is on their web based support yet!

    Linksys Signal Booster 802.11b, February 17, 2003
By Michael W. Miller (St. Clair Shores, MI United States)
I found this item to be very easy to install. My laptop's signal went from very weak to strong and I have not had any operation problems. The only thing is in the Quick Instruction guide there were two different warnings about keeping the antenna away from anyone setting near by. Two statements said to stay at least 20 cm away and another in bold type stated to be at least 2.0m away. A reply to a note to Linksys stated that the 20cm one is correct.

I've had a Linksys WAP11 for a few months. It has never skipped a beat and I have no complaints except that the Tivo in the basement could only connect at 2 Mbps to the WAP in the attic. Signal quality and strength from the basement was less than 30%.

After installing the WSB24, the signal strength at the Tivo varies between 85% to 100%, and it runs at 11 Mbps no problem.

If you need a little more juice out of your WAP, the WSB24 is a no-brainer. There really isn't much more to say.

    Excellent, February 13, 2003
By William R. Minto (Sterling Heights, MI United States)
I am typing this in my basement, about 12 ft below and 15 feet east of the router/booster. I used to get no signal here most of the time (before connecting the booster). Now I am getting a solid 46/50% on Signal Strength and Link Quality. The meters are pegged up to about 10 ft away! I'm getting 1500/250 on Speakeasy.net's bandwidth test.

A must buy if you have a weak signal!, February 11, 2003

Does exactly what it is supposed to. I have my wireless network set up in my basement and I used to get a weak signal 0% to 10% upstairs. Now the signal strength is 30% to 60%. It is a great purchase and I would recommend to anyone who needs to increase signal strength.

Great Product Enhancement ~ Great Value, February 8, 2003
By unknown
The Wireless Signal Booster is an excellent product enhancement to the Linksys Wireless router. The router is located in the far end of my (above ground) basement, and I was not able to get wireless connectivity to the main and upper levels of my 3 story 5100 sq. ft home. Once the signal booster was installed, I was able to get wireless connectivity in the entire home!! In addition, this product is also a great value!...

Significant Boost in Signal Strength, February 6, 2003
By jerryth (Melbourne, Florida United States)
Definitely boosted signal strength in all areas of my house. In rooms on second floor where signal was marginal, signal strength increased by about 15% to acceptable levels. Easy setup and worth the expense in my opinion.

Simple, effective, cheap., February 1, 2003

I was able to install it in 5 minutes. Most of that was looking for a pair of pliers (which it turned out I didn't need anyhow).

Prior to installation I couldn't even get signal out of the room the wireless access point was installed in. I live in an older house with plaster on metal lathe with old metal shielded cable grounding to the lathe.

Now I can get a signal in the south end of my basement even with the access point on the north end of the third floor of my house.

I couldn't be happier. About the only thing I'd say to be careful of would be to take the proper security measures if you'll be broadcasting a signal outside of your home.

    A no-brainer purchase and install, January 19, 2003
By G. R. Parker
The reality of WiFi is that just about everyone I know is not getting as solid a signal as they'd like. I've been frustrated by dead spots in the house, and I'm sure we've all done strange "rain dances" with our notebooks, cables, antennas, etc. to try to improve the signal.

However, my WiFi network did not seem as zippy as my Ethernet when using our cable modem, even though the bandwidth of both networks dwarfs the cable modem. Well, instantly after installing the booster, I got noticeably better response in a room where the signal used to be so weak that Linksys' own utility would show no signal strength (even though I could surf from there).

The WSB24 is trivial to install (180 seconds and that was because I didn't know you had to push the cable onto the connector pretty firmly). If you were a LinkSys pioneer and bought the early access points, you owe it to yourself to upgrade with this booster.

Works As Advertised, January 18, 2003

I purchased the WSB24 to extend the range of my BEFW11S4 to cover my entire house. The house is approximately 3000 sq ft and the Linksys WAP is located at one end. The WSB24 worked as advertised and extended my reception an additional 30 ft or so and enable end-to-end mobility. For the money, it was well worth the investment.

This product could not be easier to install. No CD to spin. No complex manuals - just a power "brick", 2 cables, and the booster. Linksys has a nice package if you need a little more signal.
I did a preliminary survey using my notebook computer with an Orinoco Silver card and Toshiba e740. The notebook usually runs about 3-5db higher gain for any given distance from the router than the PDA, which is normal given the available power to the 802.11b chip and antenna size.
After installing the WSB24 booster, I noted a 5-9db gain throughout the house and down the street on both the notebook and PDA. My goal was to get a solid signal "footprint" covering my entire house, yard, garage. The WSB24 achieved this admirably. I believe Linksys claims a 10-15db gain, but I noted approximately half that. Given that almost all the advertising for WiFi seems to double or treble the true available distance, this doesn't alarm or bother me. At distances and locations where I previously got 1 or 5 mb connection I now have a solid 11mb.
The bottom line: 5 minute install, no problems, definite gain in signal strength, reasonable price.

    Excellent Product, January 5, 2003

One room in my home has staggered cement walls (and it's not cellblock A) and unfortunately the signal from my BEFW11S4 does not make it into the room. With the WSB24 (just made available recently) I now have full coverage in this room as well as coverage outside further than I imagined. All-in-all a very nice product.
