Works great until you use the phone!!, August 15, 2002
By doug_meeks (Huntsville, Alabama USA)
This product works great for me until I pick up my new 2.4 Ghz phone and it kills every one of these Linksys wireless adpaters in the house (I had 3), I can use any of the 900Mhz phones with no problem BUT if you have or plan to get 2.4Ghz wireless products you better stay away from this. I finally gave up and wired my house and solved the problem, its a great product otherwise

wireless pleasures, August 13, 2002
By PPM BON (Blaricum, N Holland Netherlands)
Now here is what you want and thought it was not available. The 8.11b full compatible wireles device that works with almost any access point in your house including your Apple airport base station ! Install the drivers that will also work with Windows XP, connect your USB device to your computer or hub and restart your computer. The reach and power is beyond belief. The green monitor will show in the low right corner of your computer and you are on line. Looks like a device from a toy store but is worth its weight in gold! ...

Works really well with WAP11. Used this with both windows 98 and 2000. Installs in minutes. Recommend it highly.

If only the rest of the software/hardware industry adobting this easy installation and useability. I bought two of these to work with my wireless router and was up in no time. Now with WinVNC installed I'm able to exchange files between both computers and surf the net at blazing speeds.

Another excellent Linksys Product, July 30, 2002
By unknown
I have purchased many different linksys products, routers, switches, wireless devices, etc. And just like all the other linksys products I use, this one was also very easy to setup and install. I noticed there were quite a few bad reviews regarding these USB wireless adapters. However, I just setup 3 of them on 3 different computers running XP with no problems at all, and each took no longer than 4-5 minutes to setup. I would highly recommend this product to anybody who wants the convenience of wireless while having the flexibility of a USB-powered device.

Wires again? No, thanks!, July 25, 2002
By TL (New York, NY)
Excellent product. With Linksys WAP and wireless USB adapter I've connected my home PC to my office network. Buildings are over 300 meters away from each other, but usual signal quality is not lower than 70-80 percent. So this device allows me to control my network remotely and it also provides me broadband Internet connection, which we have in the office. When it's rainy, I just stay at home and work from there. :) Thanks to Linksys.

Unsigned, non-working XP drivers, July 22, 2002
By Scott Johnson (Atlanta, GA)
First of all, there are at least two (2) devices, very different in appearance, that are BOTH called WUSB11. I have, apparently, the one without the fold-out antenna pictured above. The Windows ME drivers for this product caused blue-screen errors on my Vaio PCG-FX210 until I finally removed them. The Windows XP driver doesn't appear to work at all (it recognizes the unit, but won't see any networks.) The XP driver is also unsigned, and the installation instructions tell the hapless user to simply ignore the unsigned driver warnings from XP. Since they've had plenty of time to have the driver qualified by Microsoft, my guess is they just haven't gone to the trouble to make it reliable enough to pass Logo testing. For what it's worth, I've relegated this thing to use on an older machine running Windows 98, and it seems stable enough in that configuration. Maybe the "other" WUSB11 and its drivers are more stable. Scott

Easy Install and Great Reliability, July 18, 2002
By unknown
This particular product works great. Currently I have 3 computer being routed to the main access point (Linksys BEFW11S4). All of our system run off of win98 and there has not been a problem. 100% connectivity to router through 2 walls and 85% connectivity to the other computer that resides in the basement. Most of the problems people have are due to the router programming. "Remember to read directions throughly" on setting router controls.

Perfect for my little 3-unit home LAN, July 6, 2002
By Mad_Monk (Oklahoma City, OK USA)
I love these things! I've got a small 3-unit LAN set up and these little gems work great! Easy to set up and easy to use. My brother-in-law is looking at doing the same type of setup for his house and I will definitely point him to using these.

Unfinished Work, July 5, 2002
By unknown
I purchased the WUSB11 (ver. 2.5) to replace my WUSB11 (ver. 1) which was released only months earlier. Linksys admitted that version one would not work with my WAP11 (ver. 1) access point and Windows XP.I just upgraded to the latest driver and firmware which has left me unable to receive any packets. I am left wondering if I will need to replace my WAP11 access point with one of the other hardware revisions recently released. Based upon how many hardware, firmware, and software revisions that these products have undergone in the last year, building a reliable Linksys wireless network can be an expensive and tiring project.

Great item. Easy to set up with Linksys support. They were so helpful. I only wish that all products were as supportive.

Very consumer-grade, not apropriate for Linux, June 25, 2002
By unknown
Geek level objections: the WUSB11 violates the USB specification by using a type-A to type-A connection, and indeed by using a type-A jack on a USB device at all. Consequently replacement cables are hard to secure. There's no good reason for it to have been done this way, except possibly that on relative volume a typeA connector is slightly cheaper to mass-produce.Linux users: Linksys has stopped putting prism2 chipsets in the WUSB11; current revisions are based on the Amtel chipset. Amtel refuses to release interface specs, so WUSB11 units above revision 2.5 will probably never be supported (especially since there are many much better options available.) Finally, networking over USB is a lame idea; USB data transfers are vastly more CPU-intensive than PCI or PCMCIA. Because USB is a shared bus format, on a busy network or while doing intensive data transfer you'll be slagging your machine. The only reason to buy one of these things is if your machine has no network card and can't accept one.

A few kinks starting up, but works like a charm, June 25, 2002
By unknown
It was a little hinky out of the gate, but eventually made peace with my router and now everyone's happy. I actually think the initial setup problems were related to interference issues. Since moving the adapter a few feet further from my speakers (which contain magnets and thus create interference with the wireless signal), it's been great. One caveat... Linksys tech support is very hit and miss. The first guy I talked to was an [unknowledgable person] who any created additional problems that shut down my whole network for an afternoon. The next guy I talked to was awesome.

no Win98se USB drivers, June 8, 2002
By unknown
This product simply doesn't work with Win98. It won't load the correct USB driver no matter which way you try. I've run the product cd drivers, downloaded the driver from Linksys, and essentially spent half a day fighting it. I have some great Linksys products, but this ain't it. No more fighting, it's outta here.

A product that improved in later versions, June 5, 2002
By 8-tracks to 802.11 (Central Maryland, USA)
My first impression of this product was harsh...and the product was not a good one. A subseuqent purchase (for use with Tivo) suggests that Linksys has worked out many of the issues, and this device should be expected to work well in recent verisions. Original review text follows:...I would create a "zero stars" category. 30 days of Linksys products operation and tech support activities related to this device included: (1) A support technician telling me over the phone" "maybe you don't know enough about computers to be setting up a home network..." (2) This adapter crashed Windows XP when connected via a sep USB 2.0 port residing on an expansion card (it worked fine when connected via the motherboard's USB 1 port; the Linksys tech who made the comment above was NOT the one who figured this out; guess who did). (3) It took two weeks of daily tweaking (including multiple instances of key string re-entry) to get the 128-bit WEP to work. (4) 30-days after purchase, the WUB11 wireless adapter failed. Linksys promised an RMA via email in 12-24 hours. It took four days and three additional phone calls. If you are still in the product selection phase, avoid Linksys like the plague. I will never consider them for a future home or business solution, and will never recommend them to anybody in the market from home/small office wireless solutions.

one of the best !, May 25, 2002
By Ashwin (PLANO, TX United States)
I did a lot of research of wireless adapters before going in for a wireless network at home... I have a linksys router and this wireless adapter.. The signal strength is always very good and I could never see the difference in the speed between my computers and my roommate's computer which is directly connected to the router... The only thing about the setup is that you need to make sure you set the encryption rate to be the same in all the computers on the network as well as use the same pass phrase... but the setup instructions explain everything in detail... The support is very good too, they stay with you and help you fix up any problems you might face... It looks really great and is really small... I keep moving the adapter from my laptop to my desktop and I find this to be really very useful !

Excellent product!..., May 8, 2002

Ran the setup and was on the Internet in 5 minutes MAX!!... If this product is going to be in use with Windows 98 make sure you have the Windows 98 CD, setup will need it. I am very happy with this product.

Do not bother, April 6, 2002
By etruscan1 (Mableton, GA USA)
The lack of documentation and spotty support, combined with a much too complicated configuration setup has cost me hours of valuable time trying to straighten out problems; not to mention downtime due to unstable service. I would NOT recommend this product to anyone who is looking for a simple, reliable way to connect their network wirelessly. I have friends who swear by NetGear. I am sending my Linksys back.

Direct comparison: LinkSys and NetGear, April 4, 2002
By unknown
I purchased the WUSB11 2.5 and WPC11 2.5 on March 8th to connect a desktop XP Pro computer (containing an internal DSL modem) with a notebook XP Home computer. It is now April 3, and I have done almost nothing in the last three weeks except fuss with this little network. When it works, it works beautifully, but the problem is that the system is unstable, rarely working for more than 15 minutes at a time, and nothing--no parameter changes--have solved that problem. I have downloaded just about every technical article on setting up networks and bought at least three books, including the Microsoft certification manual on XP networking. Trying to adjust network settings by trial and error is just about impossible; there are too many possible combinations of settings. Correspondence with the LinkSys tech advisor by email was courteous and more or less prompt. One of his suggestions was to turn off the internet firewall, which I did, to no avail. The final suggestion was to buy an external DSL modem and a router instead, but this would have required a month's delay with no DSL and extra monthly expenses. In the meantime, Linksys had come out with an updated PC11, v3.0, with a new chipset, so I bought that--no help, same instability. Finally, I tried the Netgear MA101 USB adapter for the desktop, continuing to use the Linksys PC 2.5 card in my notebook, and lo, everything worked beautifully! I have run my network now for as long as 24 hours with no glitches. I like the Linksys people, but I have to say that direct comparison, all else being constant, shows that the Netgear USB network adapter (or its driver), at the same price, is superior.

I Love it!, April 1, 2002

I bought this adapter along with the Lynksys wireless router. Both work great!! Easy to set up and works as advertised (Be sure to do the firmware upgrade). Great Geek Toy!
