Linksys WUSB11 Wireless-B USB Network Adapter v4, May 29, 2007
By J. Wesley Ward Jr. (Hoffman Estates, IL)
Item is not as displayed in picture when purchased. The item displayed is the WIFI item, where both cable ends are the same. This item does not work with my Linksys B router and cable ends are different.

You get what you pay for...., May 25, 2007
By Uncle Sam
This little, cheap device would always drop the connection. You get what you paid for. I went ahead and spent more on a D-Link G with a power booster. Connection is now rock solid

hangs Windows 2000, May 24, 2007
By Joe Tal (Cleveland, OH United States)
Great product for intermittent use, like if you fire up your computer and browse the web, answer email.
But if you want a constant long term connection, forget it. After about 100 mb transferred, it hangs your system. I've reproduced this bug, and a normal NIC card gives me no problems. So you are always rebooting every day if you are serving. I even updated the drivers too!
There are a couple of other reviewers who have experienced this too.
But if you do need it for short-term stuff, it's great!

Plug N' Play, May 16, 2007
By Respiratory Therapy Student
Very easy to use this product. It said it was plug-n-play, and it really was. We were setting up our DSL wireless network, and purchased the adaptor to run with our Gateway Desktop running Windows XP. It took less than 10 minutes to set everything up, so I would definitely recommend!

Works good easy to install good range, May 12, 2007
By M. Anderson (Gulf Coast Texas)
My kids needed to update thier computers and I was tired of unhooking thier computer and bringin them into my office to hook them up to my high speed connect all the time so I got these and I got a wireless router. These made it so much easier to run a network in my house, I was dreading running CAT-5 throug the house, plus, I inadverdantly hooked into the local wireless provider which was almost 1/2 mile away. worked very good.

Not exactly what I needed... Does not work with TiVo!, May 6, 2007
By TiVolian (Spring, TX USA)
Due to the fact this device has a different chipset, it won't work with TiVo... TiVo's website is partly to blame as well, not indicating the precise "version" of the device: thus, I had to return it and buy another one.
My seller was more than accomadating in the return/refund however.

Linksys WUSB11 version info., March 25, 2007
By Robert L. Wrenn
If you are looking for an excellent usb adapter for wifi hotspots, the Linksys WUSB11 maybe just what you are looking for. Versions 2.8 (don't know about 2.6) to 4.0 are rated at 62 mw transmit power. This extra power will allow you to connect to more distant hotspots than the lower power (31 mw) units. Although you only using 802.11b which tops out at 11Mb vs the 802.11g's 54Mb, you must consider that the dsl and cable modems supply only 256K-5Mps of bandwith. So the extra speed of the 802.11g doesn't buy you anything for internet browsing. Also the 802.11g's speed drops dramatically with distance so that the 802.11b adapters like the WUSB11 may actually give you faster performance on long distances. If you are looking for an adapter to use with Tivo2 then don't get a version 4, versions 2.5 and 2.8 seem the best for tivo2. Why did I rate it 4 instead of 5 stars? I use linux alot and the newer versions of WUSb11(v4 and v3) don't seem to have linux drivers yet (ndis wrappers are not working for me with v4). This situation will most likely be resolved when new drivers are written, as is always the case with linux.

Worthless drivers, worthless support., March 7, 2007
By Loraksus (Portland, Oregon)
Have 6 of these (all v4), not a single one installed on post sp2 windows xp without tweaking. Their support? Dear god, completely useless.
Why is it so hard to release a product with working drivers? Really...
Just because there is a workaround, that doesn't excuse Linksys for releasing a shoddy product. Drivers on the website were an older version than what came on the CD. Go Linksys!

maybe not with Tivo, March 6, 2007
By Naterade3 (Chicago)
Does not necessarily work with TiVo, you need to make sure you are getting the exact version that is listed on the TiVo site. The one I got was version 2.5, only 2.0 or something works with TiVo. I am stuck with mine.

Not reliable under Win98SE, February 20, 2007
By A. Ng
I've been running my old Win98SE machine with this for a couple of months, and am about to give up on it. The hardware works great, but the driver software causes Win98SE to crash either within minutes or within a few hours . I methodically tried using five different earlier versions of the WUSB11 drivers from Linksys, but they were even less functional than the current version 4.0 software.
The machine in question here is a Dell Pentium-3, 500 MHz, 128 MB RAM desktop.

Be careful only Wireless B network ready., January 27, 2007
By Arnaud (Washington, DC)
My mistake: I forgot to check the protocole of the various network I wanted to use it for. The Wifi-B protocol is not frequent at all (either a or now g) So check before.

nice product, easy network, January 16, 2007
By Diane S (Iowa)
I bought the adapter for a desktop computer that had no integrated wireless, set up a home network between that computer and a laptop, and was easily able to share drives, and printers, without dealing with an access point or cable. Then I was connected to satellite internet and was able to share the internet connection as well. I have since temporarily connected two other laptops easily to this wireless network to set them up, download all of their updates and software, and be finished, in a much easier, quicker procedure than if I'd had to either use dial-up or sneakernet. It is not a trivial setup, but not terribly difficult, and would not require an expensive visit from a technician for anyone with a reasonable grasp of computing and networking.

It didn't work., January 16, 2007
By R. Heinz
I spent over an hour with the Linksys tech support in India(during two calls) and they couldn't get the adapter to work. They said that the drivers were bad and that they would send me new drivers on a CD. They never sent them.

Can't get to work on IBM ThinkPad, January 15, 2007
By Old man (North Carolina)
The IBM ThinkPad 600 is the wife's machine (330MHz, 128meg RAM). It must go on a network if we are to go broadband.
Purchased this because it was advertised to work with "WIN98" and supposed to work on a 220MHz CPU with 64meg of RAM.
First problem. It is WIN98SE that it is supposed to work on. It doesn't work on pre-SE. With pre-se the device showed a yellow ! that can't be fixed.
So upgraded machine to WIN98SE. Driver loaded and everything looked fine. The monitoring program said adapter was active. Great.
Well not so great. WIN98SE won't start up with the adapter attached without generating a "WINDOWS PROTECTION ERROR: you need to restart your machine." It also scrambled the LCD display so that the computer didn't know what kind of display device we had when starting up in the SAFE mode. If the device was left unplugged the machine starts up normally. One can then plug in the adapter and it works. That is useless!
Several phone calls to LinkSys were made. First suggestion: Plug the device in after startup. The got the message that that was not a solution. Second suggestion try on another machine.
I have another WIN98SE machine with .5GB memory and 2GHz Celeron. The adapter worked normally on it. No problems
So the problem is either one peculiar to the IBM ThinkPad 600 or it is under RAMed and/or under CPU'd for the task. Who really knows what goes on at boot up.
The last suggestion from LinkSys was to go to their website and download about 500Meg of an older driver/program and try that. Guys, we have dialup. No way! They did confirm I was using the latest and recommended driver for V4 hardware.
This plus an announcement on the phone line about updating the router driver for the router I just ordered from LinkSys has soured me.
Want all computers here to use same adapters. So this one is out of the running. LinkSys did make a good faith effort to solve this one. They were easy to reach and took a lot of time to try and solve this. Unfortunately, only the god's know what is happening....

Give Me A Linkup, Spock, January 9, 2007
By B. McNutt (Pensacola FL)
I live out in the country and get my internet link via a hub in the middle of my park. This little unit is flawless, runs off your USB connection and works in all kinds of weather and temps. Not a bit of problem, bought mine new. Excellent purchase
