Handy little wireless., September 22, 2005
By Steven Tidd
Linksys Wirelss b USB devices connect easily and work well. The wireless B technology is starting to be replaced by wirelss G, but the B works with the new routers as long as you reconfigure it to associate with B devices.

Installation took less than 2 minutes, and it worked perfectly without any help on my part other than plugging in the USB and loading the driver. Received signal powerfully. Perfect execution.

Make your desktop computer wireless very inexpensively, September 14, 2005
By wireless lady (Melbourne, FL)
This adapter is fantastic. It converts your desktop computer to wireless without even opening the computer. It attaches to a USB port. It was a little flakey getting the software to work during installation. After it worked it was reliable, and dependable. I have used these on three wireless networks. Just add a linksys wireless router to the output of the cable modem box and you have an instant network on your house with no wires. I've set up three family member's houses with these. Haven't gotten a single complaint about them.

This adapter only supports up to 64bit WEP, and the USB interface means convenience but your computer will also slow down when there's heavy traffic. You can pickup a wireless-G adapter (PCI is better) for about the same price.

Windows XP Installation with WEP/SSID, August 10, 2005
By C. Chu
Here is what you do if your access point has an SSID and WEP enabled. When you get to Step 3A, "View Available Wireless Networks", you will not see anything. Go to the "Related Tasks" and click on "Change the order of preferred networks".
Hit the "Add..." button, and type in your Network name (SSID). Uncheck "The key is provided for me automatically". Leave Network Authentication "Open", Data encryption: "WEP", and type in your WEP key in the "Network key" box. You should be then associated immediately to your access point, even though "View Available Wireless Networks" will still show no networks.

Otherwise, setup is easy, plug in the USB, insert disk, and setup Windows XP (above). I'm sure it is easier if you have an entirely open wireless access point. By the way, cute little box, and you can stick it anywhere, even on a vertical surface, with the enclosed self-stick velcro.

    Awesome product, June 29, 2005

When I purchased this item, I was kind of scared, because there are many bad reviews on this item. I opened the package, hooked it up to my computer, and it didn't work. At this point I hated myself for spending my money on this, because I thought that it would never work. So I called the technical support 800 number, and they didn't know how to fix it so they sent me to a senior support member. It took a while for one to become available, but once he did, I felt very nicely because I knew that he was experienced. After about 40min. I was up and running. The adapter is faster than I expected for being 3 rooms and one floor away. I am using dsl, and it is as fast as having a direct connection to the router with an ethernet cable. I am very impressed with this product. I am especially pleased with it being small and able to be moved around so I can get the best connection. I placed mine on the top of my monitor. I would highly recommend this to anyone wanting to go wireless with a small amount of money to work with.

    Doesn't work With Tivo, June 1, 2005
By Josh (Pensacola FL)
Just wanted to inform everyone that this product doesn't work with Tivo for a broadband connection. Use the NetGear WG111. It works great. Just wanted to prevent someone else from buying a product that isn't compatable with TIVO.

    This is a good product..........but, April 24, 2005

I ordered the WUSB11 to connect a TIVO system to my internet. I was sent version 4 of the WUSB11, which isn't compatible with any TIVO service number. How about telling us what version of these products you're selling?

The Linksys Wireless-B router is a handy little device who's time has in many ways passed.

In terms of setup and software it is a cinch, run the software and plug it in and presto it found my wireless network and had me surfing in no time, much to the delight of my wife who didn't want more wires running through the house.

The downside of this device is security. The only security available currently on this device is WEP which although was good at the time of the initial release of the device doesn't cut it today. Linksys has not offered a firmware upgrade to allow WPA-PSK and from two conversations I've had with them doesn't seem to have plans to do so.

This means your system will be hackable by even the sloppiest hacker. You would be much better off going with a later model that includes native or upgradable WPA-PSK support.

Of course if you don't mind people hacking your system then this will certainly do the job. If you are doing any kind of home business or keeping financial records on the PC I'd give it a miss.

    Perfect, March 18, 2005
By Heather Haze (Gulf Coast, Florida)
I installed the software, plugged it in, and it worked perfectly. What more do you need to know? My computer sits under my desk, so my PCI wireless adapter I had been using got a terrible signal and often dropped out. Now, I can set the USB wireless adapter anywhere I want. I have it resting on my monitor and get a super signal. No more dropouts, even when the microwave is turned on! Perfect! I am running Windows 2000. My wireless router is also a Linksys running 128-bit encryption. Installation was a breeze. The connection is fast and reliable.

If your wireless network is set up primarily for broadband Internet sharing, Wireless-B will do the job wonderfully. 11Mbps is more than adequate for DSL or cable. If you frequently need to move large amounts of data between computers on your network, however, consider upgrading to Wireless-G components (54Mbps).

Not much to say about this adapter, which is good. Each one that I have was a snap to install and has worked continuously since. I have all my home network devices (PCs, Tivos, etc.) securely connected to my wireless LAN. It sure beats wiring a home for a network!

I tried to use a Dlink PCI card (DWL-510) to connect my desktop to my wireless access point and it was garbage! I have 10 years of IT background working with windows and UNIX servers and after two weeks no dice. So I retuned it and bought this. Wow! Setup was a breeze and reliability is amazing. I never drop signal and have a 4-5 bar signal two stories away from the touch point. I even got it to use windows wireless networking with 128bit WEP encryption. I wish I would have spent the money and not tried to cheap out on my first try. I this case I definitely got what I paid for.

Easy setup with TIVO, January 25, 2005
By journalist (Chicago, IL)
Got this because TIVO manual said it was recommended for wireless connection. We had been connecting to the TIVO guide service through the phone line, and although it did it at 2am and it was a 800 call (I think) the phone line still ran around the room!
We had a Apple Airport wireless network anyway, so I thought I would give this a try for $30! Plugged it in and within minutes it was configured and working. Tivo is on ground floor and Airport is upstairs, no problem with signal.

    Non Compatible, January 4, 2005
By J. Sprunger (Berne, IN United States)
I should have read the reviews before purchasing it. Why would someone sell the item as a package when the package is not compatible? I guess I now have a paper weight that is black and blue. How about thinking before selling!

Not Compatible with TIVO, December 28, 2004

Beware - version 4 is not compatible with TIVO. I didn't bother to read the reviews before I ordered so now have a paperweight. Several others have pointed out that this item will not work with TIVO

Works great with my Tivo!, December 26, 2004
By Samuel Stigler (Portland, OR, USA)
I just received the WUSB11 for Christmas, and I've been using to hook up my Tivo to my wireless network. It works great, and one thing that I love is it is MUCH, MUCH SMALLER than you'd think it would be -- it's only roughly 7-8 inches long and 4-5 inches wide.

Does not work with Tivo!, December 13, 2004
By Eric Christensen
If you're considering this as the Tivo-recommended way to get wireless connectivity, then DO NOT BUY THIS. Linksys is currently up to version 4.0 of this unit, and it DOES NOT WORK WITH TIVO.

Cheap and hard to install. Ultimately functional., December 12, 2004
By -C (Nutley, NJ USA)
I'm going to take this opportunity to fully vent on the subject. If you want the executive summary, buy Belkin or Netgear equipment, and avoid Linksys. If you like the ravings of a frustrated IT pro doing someone a favor, read on.

I hate these things, I really do. You absolutely MUST install the software for it in order to get them to work with Windows XP Home, but here's the kicker: it won't install the WLAN.INI file to the system. Oh no, you have to manually copy it to the system in the "Program Files\Crappy Wireless Lan Adapter" subdirectory yourself.

And then reboot. And then, quickly now before it notices, open up the WLAN Moniter (yes, they spell it exactly that way) and click through to "Profiles". You may get lucky and it will allow you to edit the profile, so you can finally pick the router's broadcast channel and get connected.

You might think, "Well, XP has the Wireless Zero Configure function". And it does. And Linksys defeated it for hours. There's just no tab in the Windows side for channel selection. I'd like to give a big shout out to Microsoft:
"yo, you guys missed something. Like, the ONLY THING THAT
ALLOWS THE ADAPTER SEE A ROUTER. STUPID! DUMB!"

<sigh> They're cheap, they use USB, it's inevitable someone you know will have one. Once installed, they just work. Nothing special, nothing especially cool, they do the job of hauling packets for you wirelessly. But so what? It's supposed to do that. The added value is in ease-of-installation, isn't it?

NOT for TiVo, November 23, 2004
By Flip (Michigan)
I bought this adapter for a series 2 TiVo, but it is version 4 which does not work with TiVo. Here's a link to the TiVo website for a list of adapters. http://customersupport.tivo.com/knowbase/root/public/tv2006.htm?#wireless
I'm giving it 3 stars because I hooked it up to an older computer running XP sp2, and it was easy to configure, but kept dropping the link. It was only a couple of rooms away from the router and had an excellent signal strength. There could be reasons for this problem which are not related to this adapter, but I have not had this trouble with a different adapter in my laptop in any room of the house. You may not have any trouble with this adapter for your PC, but do not buy it for TiVo.
