Description:
The Wireless-N USB Network Adapter uses the very latest wireless networking technology, Wireless-N (draft 802.11n). By overlaying the signals of multiple radios, Wireless-N's Multiple In, Multiple Out (MIMO) technology multiplies the effective data rate. Unlike ordinary wireless networking technologies that are confused by signal reflections, MIMO actually uses these reflections to increase the range and reduce Dead Spots in the wireless coverage area. The robust signal travels farther, maintaining wireless connections up to 4 times farther than standard Wireless-G.
With Wireless-N, the farther away you are, the more speed advantage you get. It works great with standard Wireless-G and -B equipment, but when both ends of the wireless link are Wireless-N, the throughput can be increased even more by using twice as much radio band, yielding speeds up to 12 times as fast as standard Wireless G. Your wireless connection is protected by industrial-strength 256-bit encryption. The included Setup Wizard will walk you through configuring the adapter to your network's settings, step by step.

    Crazy little thing ..., July 22, 2008
By user (New York, NY USA)
I bought this USB Wireless N adapter to replace a Linksys Wireless-N PCI Adapter WMP300N that didn't work at all on my kids computer (Dell Optiplex GX 110.) That card was good when I tried it with a Dell Dimension 9100, but had an incompatibility issue with the old Optiplex. So, trying to stay with Linksys, I decided to try the USB version.

I'm glad I did. The installation was a breeze (didn't use the Linksys drivers), and the computer works seamlessly with the adapter. The kids have a blast with their Internet games. I tried the adapter with a laptop and the Dimension 9100 and had the same results.

Now, the kids want a newer computer; but, that's another story ...

I use the Linksys WRT150N Wireless N Router at home with my PS3 and 2 computers. I use the Linksys WUSB300N Wireless-N USB Network Adapter (the item being reviewed) with my desktop since the router is in a different room and I don't want to run cables. I have a wireless G card for my laptop, but I switch to the USB adapter when I'm not using it on my desktop because it gets a much stronger signal and faster downloads than the card. In short, I love it. Being on a USB cable and having a stand, you can either plug it directly into the computer, or set it a little bit away from the computer for better positioning.

Good Way to Get Wireless-N via USB, May 18, 2008

Wireless-N much better than Wireless-G. Be able to conveniently plg this device into a USB 2.0 port, is great. You can even tether this device up to 6 feet away from your PC to get better reception.

Fairly easy to install - works great!, May 11, 2008

The only problem I had was in moving the adaptor to a different usb port in which I had to reset up the whole thing, but otherwise have had no problems at all!

Network made easy, April 5, 2008

The easiest part of setting-up my home wireless network was adding LinkSys WUSB300N adapters to the remote desktops. They plug into a USB port, installation was easy, they just work. If only Vista had remained plug-and-play instead of plug-and-pray!

This wireless adapter worked better as a book end in my home than it's intended purposes.

Do not buy this product, March 26, 2008
By user (USA)
This is a terrible product and the tech support is useless. I spent three days and multiple calls to tech support to get this thing to work and they had me do everything possible under the sun--click this button, change that setting, unplug this wire, bring in another laptop, get a new ethernet cable, touch your nose with your tngue (ok, I made that last one up)--but nothing worked. The Linsys forums are replete with the "bugginess" of this this product. Save your time. Save your money. Buy something else--anything else.

As long as you're careful, March 17, 2008

I really love this thing. So much so that I actually bought a second one a couple months later. They're fragile but as long as you can keep it safe it's a great buy.

Great range and speed, March 15, 2008
By user (Renton, WA USA)
My D-Link wireless-n router (3 antennas) is in the basement and on the other corner of our sprawling house from our office, maybe 60 feet and one floor away, with heating & AC ducting between. The Linksys adapter has no trouble communicating at around 50% signal strength & 108Mbps to 216Mbps speed, while the D-Link wireless adapter on my wife's computer in the same room often limps along at 5-10Mbps & sometimes loses connection entirely.
I think part of the Linksys advantage is due to its 2 little exterior adjustable antennas which allow you to tune reception for a specific direction, while the D-Link relies on an internal antenna.
Install was straightforward & easy on my dual-boot box (Win2K & WinXP) and works great with both operating systems. It was a little spendy compared to the D-Link adapter, but well worth it in terms of better overall functionality. Would definitely purchase again.

    Excellent addition, February 18, 2008

Since I have a Linksys Wireless N router and now need a little more distance and strength than the built-in wireless G in my computer I decided to try this, despite the cost. My throughput is now twice my nearby wired connection, over 200k bps! Dependable strong signal and it goes further!
I recommend purchase for those needing higher and stronger connections, especially if you already have the Linksys Wireless-N router.

If you need additional range, you will find that this is an excellent prdouct. I live in a 5 level home, with one of three computers on the top level. When I was using the G adapter the range was limited to two floors. By using the N technology I will able to remove the ethernet cable strung though out the house and receive a strong signal 4 levels from when the wireless modem was transmitting.

Great product. No problems. Easy to install and use. I am able to play online games (MMOG) without significant lag with this adapter and the Linksys Wireless N gaming router.

Caution - WUSB300N is not stable under Windows Vista, February 5, 2008
By user (Indianapolis)
Could not get device from dropping link. The only solution was to unplug and replug the USB cable into the PC. Tried all drivers from Linksys, Windows Vista, and 3rd party. Called Linksys support and got nowhere. All they offered was to uninstall and reinstall their driver off their web site.

    Gives Linksys a bad name...what a terrible product!, February 1, 2008
By user (Cedar Rapids, Iowa)
I've been using wireless network stuff for years and I've always had a preference to Linksys products in the past because they have a tendancy to be compatible with just about any wireless network I have encountered. This card is the exception to the rule. I bought two of them and I was not able to get either of them running reliably using the N standard. In case you're wondering, I'm not trying to get it to work with a Belkin or Buffalo or other off-brand router; I'm using a Linksys WRT300N router. It was only when I switched my router to B+G only that I was able to get these to connect and stay connected reliably..using wireless G. I talked with tech support, they even replaced the adapters to see if new adapters would work. I upgraded my firware on the router and even in clear line of site situations, well within the rated specs, this would not work reliably. I kept the card and now run in in G mode and it runs fine, it's a great wireless G card, but if you are looking to take advantage of wireless N features, keep looking because this is not the card for you. Also, beware of hardware incompatibilities. Linksys told me that this is not compat

Very disappointing adapter, January 24, 2008
By user
I researched a couple of wireless devices prior to purchasing the Linksys router and adapter. I figured, "Both from the same company. This should be no problem." This adapter is terrible. Dropped connection, poor signal, freezes the USB port. I read several forums and followed the suggestions. I called Linksys tech support. That call turned out to be the longest 2 hours of my life. I downloaded the most recent drivers for the adapter and for my USB. Nothing seemed to help. The last straw was when the adapter lost my control panel. Don't ask me how, but it did. I disconnected the adaptor for the last time and did a system restore. I wired my network then returned this little headache. Problem solved. By the way, all the paperwork recommends this device for Windows Vista.

Works with World of Warcraft for Me, January 16, 2008
By user (IL)
I see some folks mentioned that they can't play World of Warcraft (WoW) with this adapter. I'm playing WoW with this at a great speed.

Things to try if you have trouble: Download the newest drivers. The ones in the box are old (at least the CD i got was a few versions old). Try changing the Radio Band to Normal. Try different Channels (like 11). Stop & Disable the "Wireless Zero Configuration" in the "Adminstrative Tools -> Services ..." section. There other things to try on various forums if you search around.

I have the Linksys 330N Gaming Router and things work great for me playing Warcraft.

    WUSB300N - is N for nightmare, January 14, 2008
By user (Menlo Park, CA United States)
Have wasted an entire day trying to get this to work. Linksys technical support is terrible. No solutions. Seems like there are a lot of reported problems with this product. Thought it would be great to have N network but my Netgear g wireless network never caused a problem and was super easy set-up. Linksys is a nightmare.

Still won't work well with Vista, January 5, 2008
By user (Papillion, NE USA)
Got this device for Christmas along with a new N router from LinkSys. I experienced hangs and drops in the network connection repeatedly on my HP Vista machine. Linksys Community Forums are full of complaints about this, and while the Linksys Vista download site lists a Vista driver, the link is defective and downloads the driver for a different product. Linksys support hasn't been able to resolve the issue with multiple contacts.

Watch Out for Tech Support!!!, January 5, 2008
By user (Four Corners)
I have had my Linksys router for 3 years. I also had to get a bridge to extend the range because it couldn't go through walls very well. I had to call them a lot because sometimes the bridge or router somehow lost the address.

They used to have free support until just very recently. My beef is with the cost of support. 3.99 a minute. ( I don't know if that includes listening for many minutes to bad music.) You can get 3 months support for $199, 6 months for $299 or 1 year for $499!!! I can tell you I spent many hours talking to tech support before this recent change of events. You will need tech support now and again when you change ISPs, go elsewhere.

Love / Hate Relationship With This Thing, January 1, 2008
By user (Austin, TX USA)
I have two machines, each one with its own WUSB300N Wireless N USB Network Adapter.

On my Windows XP desktop, it's wonderful. The speed and stability are great. I am very gratified by this purchase. However, ...

Like other reviewers, I had a heck of a time getting things stabilized on my AMD-64 bit desktop running a 32-bit version of Vista. I had no luck trying to manually download "special" drivers from Linksys specifically for 64-bit machines, etc. They made Vista completely crash.

THE REAL ODD THING ABOUT THIS ADAPTER IS THAT IT DOES NOT WORK WITH WORLD OF WARCRAFT. THIS IS NOT JUST A ROUTER ISSUE. *THIS* ADAPTER IS THE PROBLEM. THIS WIRELESS ADAPTER SHUTS DOWN WHEN YOU PLAY WORLD OF WARCRAFT!!!

It doesn't just make the game disconnect for me. For me I have to REBOOT my machine to get it working again as a network adapter.

You can search the internet with "WUSB300N WoW" and find many posts about this peculiar phenomenah.

There is some VERY BAD mojo between World of Warcraft and this PARTICULAR adapter.

SO, if you are a big WoW player (9 million folks out there are), AVOID THIS adapter as your wireless solution.

I'm able to play WoW well wirelessly on a builtin 802.11G adapter in my laptop. I just can't play it now on my desktops if I want Wireless-N speeds for everything else.

Connecting the WUSB300N to a G router does not help. This adapter just refuses to work for me any longer once I start World of Warcraft.

WoW players beware.
