| Description: |
| Connect your USB-equipped desktop or notebook computer to a wireless network at incredible speeds with the Linksys Compact Wireless-G USB Adapter. By incorporating USB 2.0 and Wireless-G the Adapter delivers data rates up to 54Mbps (5 times as fast as 802.11b), without the trouble of opening up the case of your desktop computer. To install, simply plug the Adapter into any available USB port. (It's compatible with both USB 1.1 and 2.0 ports, but 2.0 will yield the fastest speeds.) You can plug it directly into your PC, or use the included USB extension cord to put the Adapter anywhere you'd like, up to five feet away. It gets its power through the USB connection, so no power cord is necessary. The included Setup Wizard walks you through configuring the Adapter to your wireless network settings, step by step. The Compact Wireless-G USB Adapter is also compatible with the Wireless-B (802.11b) network standard, with data rates up to 11Mbps. Your wireless communications can be protected by industrial-strength WPA and 128-bit encryption, so your data stays secure. |

Excellent Product, August 11, 2008
By user (Iselin, NJ United States)
Worked without a glitch. Was able to connect my Mac Book, Windows XP Laptop and Windows desktop without any problems.
It's 2 months since I had it and not even a single issue.
Worth the price. Great product from Linksys.

BEWARE, July 13, 2008
By user (Los Angeles, CA United States)
Just bought this to work with Linksys G router (which I bought to replace a constantly failing Belkin N1 router). The Linksys router was easy to set up - works well with a wired Vista desktop and a wireless XP laptop. However, when I connected this Linksys USB adapter to a desktop in our garage, I get a 'Limited or no connectivity' message. Too far away, you say? Well, I have almost direct line of site to the router and this desktop had at least SOME connectivity with the Belkin N1 (the worst router out there right now). My Dell laptop gets 'Excellent' signal strength (at 54 mbps on G) when placed next to this desktop. The desktop's 'signal' is 11 mbps and when I actually try to connect to the router or Internet, it cannot do so at all. When you go to the Linksys support page for this product, you san see several users who are having the same problem and getting no help from Linksys. Unless you plan to put your wireless USB adapter within 24 inches of the router, don't get this adapter. It's weak.

Great for a Non-Techno person, June 21, 2008
By user (Armonk, NY USA)
This equipment was very easy to use/install -- especially for one who is not all that computer savvy. And it saved me from having to have a new phone jack installed. Definitely worth it and reasonably priced.

Works well with HP notebook, June 7, 2008
By user
Installation is quick and easy. Although without antennae range is excellent. No problem with dropped signals or heat. It is portable and can be used in multiple computers laptop and desktops. The only thing I don't like is that it sticks out too far and does not seat securely. So I am going to get an internal card and install myself. Anyone can do it.

Linksys gets 5 stars, May 18, 2008
By user (New Hampshire)
Linksys WUSB54GC Compact Wireless-G USB Adapter In my opinion the Linksys routers and associated products like the WUSB54GC adapter, which is the receiver for the router signal on the satellite computer, are the best on the market. But what makes them the ONLY product to buy is their customer service. Unlike Microsoft and many other computer product companies, Linksys will happily solve your technical problems on the phone free of charge even if the product is not new. My wife got a new computer. Her old one was the satellite in my system. I could not get her new one to receive the signal. Even though the linksys router on my main computer was a few years old, Linksys told me exactly what I had to do to get it running. Never asked me how old the router was, or did I just buy it. No $45 up front charge to answer a question. This is the company with which you want to do business.

Your Decision, May 16, 2008
By user (San Francisco, CA.)
My Wireless-G Router was giving me fluctuating connectivity. I was advised to buy this USB 2.0 and Wireless-G Adapter, as it claims to deliver data rates up to 54Mbps. I did not find that my connectivity data rate went up, but the connectivity was more stable, meaning uploading was not necessarily faster, but more predictable. I tried using it with the five-foot cord and moving it around. There were definitely some spots that were better than others for even reception. However, I can't say that I am convinced that this Adapter really made much of a difference other than making the connectivity more even. You can take that either way. If the price doesn't bother you, then it can`t hurt.

Poor Reliability, May 14, 2008
By user (Phoenix, AZ United States)
Bought this adapter because it said it was certified for Windows Vista. Although I had no problems setting it up, it frequently would lose the connection to the network (despite being only 6 feet away from the router). When I felt the adapter, it was very hot. Maybe I got a bad unit, but I'm returning it and trying something else.

Fast speed and good quality, but it was sort of confusing to set up in the beginning. Overall is a good product.

NOT WINDOWS 98SE COMPATIBLE, May 13, 2008
By user (USA)
Once again Linksys disappoints. The advertisements, packaging, and even the manual states that this is Windows 98SE Compatible.
I placed the CD in the computer, run setup and I see the following information box pop up. We are sorry this product is not compatible with Windows 98SE.
I used to count on Linksys for great products, with easy installation, and a very fair price. It is very evident that that is not the case anymore. I sure miss the old Linksys!!!
I am almost to the point of not recommending any Linksys product anymore.

Installing driver crashed my machine, 2nd time worked..., May 12, 2008
By user (Jersey City, NJ)
Moved my Dell desktop too far from the router for a wired connection, so I had to buy a USB wireless card. This fit the bill on paper, and as soon as I plugged it in, it seemingly was acquiring a signal from my wireless router (Netgear G router). I installed the drivers from the bundled CD and upon reboot, my computer would not boot up. Windows was missing some system32 file that it could not find. Let me just say that in the 3 years I've owned this desktop, this is the first problem I've ever had with it. Consequently, I had to reinstall Windows. Upon the 2nd time around, installing the drivers worked flawlessly. I'm guessing the hard disk was not totally in sound condition and installing the drivers manifested this issue, but this is purely a guess.
After using it for a few days, I noticed its reported connection speed was not at its maximum potential of 54Mbps. It was consistently reporting 1Mbps (and acting like it, too). Also, the connection would consistently drop and would require the adapter to be removed and inserted again. I moved the adapter from the back of the computer to the top of my monitor (via the bundled USB extension cable) and haven't had a problem since. Not sure if it was the change in location to grab a better connection or the extension cable's usb connection that had a better grab of the on-board usb port.

Terrible product with lousy support, May 4, 2008
By user (Round Lake Beach, IL)
I bought the Linksys WUSB54GC wireless USB adapter to connect to my new Linksys WRT160N wireless router. Although I am a fairly advanced user, I could not get the adapter to stay consistently connected, even though other wireless devices in the house stayed connected flawlessly. I called Linksys technical support. They were pretty lousy, and after speaking with 5 different representatives, the product was deemed defective. I bought a D-Link DWA-130 adapter as a replacement, and it has functioned great. So, either the product was indeed defective or was an inferior product. Either way, I was not too pleased with this purchase or the support for it.

Not The Most Powerful USB Tool, April 29, 2008
By user (Saint Joseph, MO)
I bought this because my daughter's old laptop did not have a card slot. We figured a USB Adapter would be the next best thing for our wireless network at home. The USB adapter sits less than 20 feet from the wireless router and has a wall with a door separating them. Many times it has had trouble picking up the signal from the wireless router when I don't feel this should be a problem. Both my wife and I have laptops with built in wireless receivers and have no issues picking up the router's signal anywhere in the house. However, it seems like this USB adapter has to be right on top of the router for the signal to be strong enough to link to anything. We've made it work but she still does not have the best signal in the world. I think I would look into something different if I were trying to come up with a networking solution now.

I highly recommend this product. Works very well. Very easy to install. I've been using this product for about a month and there are no problems... at least not yet.
