Description:
The Wireless-G USB Network Adapter with RangeBooster is the simple way to add or upgrade wireless connectivity in your desktop or notebook computer. RangeBooster technology is a compatible add-on to standard Wireless-G which increases your wireless network's range up to two times, and its throughput by up to 35%. Unlike ordinary wireless technologies that are confused by signal reflections, RangeBooster uses two smart receivers at each end to detect and decode reflected signals at distances where standard technologies give up. You'll find that "dead spots" in the wireless coverage area are reduced, too. Unlike other range-enhancing technologies, RangeBooster is fully 802.11 compliant, and a "good neighbor" to other wireless devices and technologies, using a single 2.4GHz channel as specified by the official wireless standard. And with RangeBooster you'll see a range improvement even when running a mixed network of RangeBooster and regular Wireless-G and Wireless-B devices. To install, simply plug the Adapter into any available USB port. (It's compatible with both USB 1.1 and 2.0 ports, but 2.0 will yield the fastest speeds.) It gets its power through the USB connection, so no power cord is necessary. The included Setup Wizard walks you through configuring the Adapter to your wireless network settings, step by step. Wireless communications can be protected by WPA 128-bit encryption, so your data stays secure. The high-gain antenna lets you put your computer almost anywhere in the building, without the cost and hassle of running cables. Now you don't have to drill holes in your walls and climb through the attic or cellar to get connected to the network. Once you're connected, you can keep in touch with your e-mail, access the Internet, use instant messaging to chat with friends, play on-line games, and share files and other resources such as printers and hard disk storage space with other computers on the network.

Review of the Linksys WUSB54GR, July 6, 2008
By user (Albuquerque, NM)
The unit is small and compact. I was able to move the unit where I got the best signal and it is out of sight. Went from having a weak signal getting at best 36 MBS to always getting 54 MBS.

Works great on wife's computer, much better reception than smaller adapters. Easy to set up and nice long cord for easy placement.

    Worthy successor to WUSB54G, May 27, 2008

I intended to buy another WUSB54G, but when I couldn't find one available for a decent price I bought this jewel as a substitute. It works like a charm. Installation is standard Linksys (load the drivers *before* you plug it in). The RangeBooster may not be all it's advertised to be, but it does pick up a signal better than the WUSB54G I have on another computer. I must admit the odd color scheme and "RangeBooster" hype had me worried that it might not work with my plain vanilla Linksys Wireless-G setup, but it has performed without complaint for a month now, and I'm very happy with it. For me, it's just a somewhat improved WUSB54G - and that's a very good thing.

Put this on a Dell 4100 Dimension that's running Win98Me. Only reason I purchased it was for compatability reasons. VERY, VERY pleased with this. Approximately 40 feet away from antenna, through one floor and two walls. Great strength and speed. Going to purchase another one because the newer Linksys antenna gives my new pc fits. L8r G8rs!!

    GR = GReat USB Wireless-G Adaptor, February 9, 2008

My laptop is an ancient P3 which lacks built-in wireless, so I went with the Linksys WUSB54GR Wireless-G USB Network Adapter with RangeBooster. Typical with Linksys products, I followed the instructions to the letter [Run the Install-CD FIRST and follow the on-screen install instructions!], and I had it set up in 5 minutes and have been using it for almost a year now without a single problem. The range is good enough to reach my Linksys WRT54GL router from anywhere in the house (or outside) with a strong signal. I'm very happy with it, and if you're also looking for a USB wireless adapter, I recommend this one highly.

Found this adapter to have an increased range over the WUSB54G. Enabled a sufficiently fast network connection between two buildings. Very satisfied with the results.

I did not see ANY difference between this and the non-rangeboost version.

I'm very disappointed lately by linksys' wireless adapters since I had the portable version of this too which just snapped in half while I was removing it from my laptop. Tech support asked "why would you remove your portable adapter after each use?". "uhh, because it's a PORTABLE adapter".

Waste of money. Doesn't work. Added it to a wireless network, and doesn't work. Location of device relative to base transmitting unit is about 15 feet. Initially decided to purchase based on prior loyalty to Linksys, however quality isn't there.

    Great Range!, June 19, 2007

I have bought several of these over the past 3 years or so. This one, with the feature of RangeBooster and the newer G (instead of the B), makes it even better! I have used many of these and so far this has been the best one. My room which contains the router is about 25 yards away from the main house, and many of my computers in the main house were still able to connect to my router with great connection speeds. great product!

This USB Adapter has a good installation disk and found the network router with no problems. My computer is about 75 feet away from the Router with 2 walls in between. It improved the signal strength from low to good. Now if it will just last.......

About the same coverage area, May 13, 2007

In using the WUSB54GR Wireless-G USB Network Adapter with RangeBooster I had about the same coverage area as before with a small increase. There was not enough to solve my distance requirements.

    No complaints!!, March 1, 2007

This puppy is great. It's faster than my PCI Wireless G with Speedboost, so that must be thanks to the Range Booster, because USB adapters are never faster than PCI adapters! I have this adapter at least 60 feet away from my Linksys Router and it picks up the signal perfectly and consistently.

As with any Linksys or other wireless product, you really have to know what you're doing when installing, since the install software doesn't configure the connection on it's own. Use Linksys tech support if you're at all uncomfortable - it's free. Know the settings of your router (IP address, security settings, password/key) before you begin.

Horrible, untested product, December 7, 2006
By user
The install CD states that it can't find a file even though it is right on the CD. Once you ignore that error and proceed the installation locks up. I contacted tech support at Linksys and Ronny (18856) hung up on me without helping me. All I got was this message "Ronny (18856) Has Disconnected". So much for tech support!
